Dumpshock Forums _ Shadowrun Missions _ Using Augmentation in Missions

Posted by: the_dunner Aug 8 2007, 02:46 PM

Now that the PDF is out there, players are now permitted to use Augmentation to generate and upgrade characters in the Shadowrun Missions campaign.

There are, however, a few caveats worth noting:
-If a rule is noted as an "Optional Rule," the Missions campaign won't be using it. (e.g. Cyberpsychosis)
-Players and GMs are not required to use the Advanced Medical Rules. While these are permissible and add to depth of play, the current Missions campaign isn't really built around this sort of tracking.
-All materials from "The Cutting Edge" are not available to Missions characters, with the notable exception of the Mania/Phobia Quality on P.164.
-Per usual, all gear is subject to the normal availability restrictions.

Questions/Comments?

I would guess that fear of spiders (arachnophobia) would fit in the uncommon category, no?

Billy: What the frag are you shooting at?

Bob: It was a &^$(^ing huge spider, right in front of me!

Hmmmm... but if all the materials for Cutting Edge are out, then this phobia Quality makes no sense, as it is listed under "Cyborg and Cyberzombie Negative Qualities".

As I said -- "with the notable exception" wink.gif IMO, Phobias and Manias are balanced for more than just Cyborg/Cyberzombie use.

GMs call on whether spiders are common or uncommon. If your PC lives in the barrens, though, they'd probably fall into the common category. (And, if it's a nasty enough phobia, a huge spider might only be a couple millimeters across. nyahnyah.gif )

Yeah, but how do you put that into game terms?

Well like anything the player would need to pull it off with role-playing of course.
As to things they can do easy:
Neat freak
clean freak
germ fears

I am all about neatness everything in it's place and a place for everything but clean is not a major issue as long as dirty dishes are in the sink or the dish washer then they are where they belong same thing for dirty clothes in the laundry basket.

As long as the player can act accordingly then it could make for some good gameing nothing like having a runner go into a place and start cleaning it up cause he can't stand dirty rooms.

You're forgetting the biggie,

Counting (Must count guns, ammo, fetishes, whatever is available, and must count them in a specific way (groups of 8 for example), if interrupted, will need to start again or the anxiety builds to intolerable levels).

The key being that these ritualistic behaviors are used as a focus for the individual's anxiety (rather than whatever is causing the anxiety).

(Sorry, my own OCD is showing...)
