A little bit of backround. I first heard this bit in...1999 or 2000, on a local radio show called Elliot in the Morning. At first, I thought they had done it; that show and it's station, DC 101, are famous for their parodies and fake commercials. But I have since learned it was performed by a comedy troupe called The Dead Ale Wives. It's a Dungeons and Dragons parody, and very funny, mostly because it hits close to home. From my very brief investigation, it seems that the Dead Ale Wives are now defunct; their website is now a porn site, and it would be difficult to find any of their CDs. However, the first bit at least is on a CD called "Dr. Demento's 30th Anniversary". Listen to ithttp://www.cybermoonstudios.com/8bitDandD.swf
They also did a sequel of sorts; that's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSPFZN66s8s
This next one has nothing to do with gaming, but it's funny. If you've ever wanted to hear Porky Pig singing "Blue Christmas", click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUELu8o5KJg
Enjoy, and have a happy winter solstice.
Good on ya for linking the good (8bit) version instead of the lame Summoner Geeks version.
(Okay, I like both, but 8bit FTW.)
Oh, and the second link is broken.
"Video has been removed by user"? Sigh. It can also be heard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy33MCVn9IE but it's only half the length of the original link. This is missing the part when a player's girlfriend joins the group. However, it does have the immortal "Fly by night, Mountain Deeeewwww..." Great stuff.
OK, so I found a place where you can hear the full seven minute version of the sequel, as well as info on the Dead Alewives and it's former members. Click http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Alewives then scroll down to the bottom, where you will find links for both the original, the sequel, the 8 bit and Summoner Geeks versions. I crack up every time I hear "Does anyone have another quarter? 'Cause otherwise I gotta get funnions..." Enjoy.
