Anyone else seen the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Versions_of_Blade_Runner#The_Final_Cut_.282007.29?

the remastered flight scenes make it quite worthwhile. fits my image of what a dystopian sprawl should look like. if you pay attention, there are even dwarves in the film!

I actually bought it a while ago but haven't watched it yet - as a Numbah 1 Fan, I am waiting for a special occasion to cuddle up to it, something like my birthday, as it is my tradition to watch Blade Runner on my birthday.

However, if you are talking about those dwarf things that get on top of Deckard's car, they are not new to the Final Cut version.

The monologues sucked ass and they sucked balls. They sucked ass and they sucked balls. The two things that they sucked were ass and balls and goats. The three things that they sucked were ass and balls and goats and frogs. Among the many things they sucked were ass and balls and goats and frogs and eggs. They totally changed the meaning of the film.

I would recommend the "Four-Disc Collector's Edition". You'll get the Final Cut, the 1982 US Theatrical Cut (with monologue and "happy" ending), the 1982 International Theatrical Cut, the 1992 Director's Cut (all of which were restored and remastered), "Dangerous Days: The Making of Blade Runner", and an Enhancement Archive. Also, check out "Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner", by Paul Sammon. In conjunction with the new dvds, Vangelis came out with a "25th Anniversary" 3 disc Bladerunner soundtrack. All of these can be had on Amazon.com.

I'm pretty sure my collector's edition is 5 discs, sucker!

Seriously, I think it's five. I haven't had an occasion to open it yet, though, because I saw it in the theater just the other week. Sometimes I feel really bourgie.

There are indeed several different editions of the Final Cut. I cheaped out and bought the four disc version. I like the film, but I don't like it THAT much. If you're truly a hard core Bladerunner fan, there's some sort of ultimate edition...metal briefcase container, still photos, poster, origami figures like Gaff made in the movie, the works. It'll cost ya a pretty penny, though.

Yeah, i got the 5-Disc VK Briefcase collector's set as a gift and just opening the thing is an experience in itself! They have truly done Blade Runner justice. I'd say the 5_Disc is the only one to get, because all other versions lack the Workprint cut of the movie.

Yes, the voiceover is gone, but it wasn't "taken out", it was never supposed to be there int he first place. This is plainly illustrated in a FANTASTIC 40-minute mini-movie composed of deleted and alternate scenes with Ford's disjointed (at best) voiceover throughout the movie. It retells BR as a truly Noir Detective story, so all you hardcore fanboys who refuse to accept that Deckard is a Replicant can finally have something worthwhile to view.

Fun fact: in his second edition of Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner, Paul M. Sammon mentions SR. From page 583:

"Another electronic diversion with clear BR elements was the cyberpunk roleplaying game Shadowrun. This was set in the years 2050-2070, in a world where magic and computers coexist in world just recovering from a great cataclysm. First released in a pen-and-paper version in 1989, Shadowrun also appeared as a 1993 videogame for the Super NES system and in 2007 as a game for the Xbox 360."

BTW, if you're a Blade Runner fan, this book is an absolute must. Unfortunately, for various reasons it has not been published in the US. I had to buy it through Amazon.com.uk
