Apparently, if Lucasfilm's complaint is accurate, Gen Con stole $150,000 from children with cancer.
That's not cool.

Perhaps the GenCon folks are Neutral Evil and figure the dying people don't really need the gold.

The first link says almost a million.

Note that this is specifically GenCon California. I don't know if they are two seperate entities.

The first link is wrong. The actual complaint filed by Lucasfilm, which I linked to, requests $650,000 compensatory damages, $150,000 for the charity auction and $500,000 for convention royalties.

Didn't read your linky. nyahnyah.gif smile.gif

It's funny how they're taking the moral high ground, demanding the 150k for little kids with cancer...and the 500k for poor, starving, Lucas himself. wink.gif

Actually it would specifically be for SW Celebration, which GenCon also owns.

Posted by: Fortune Feb 12 2008, 02:53 PM

Wasn't sure if it was a different entity or not. Does this actually affect GenCon itself, or only the subsidiary?

Posted by: Adam Feb 12 2008, 08:10 PM

There is no subsidiary. Gen Con LLC is the company that puts on the Gen Con Indy convention and the Star Wars Celebration convention and that licenses the Gen Con name to other convention organizers to use.

If you read the actual complaint, LFL is looking for about a million dollars in damages, based on at least 150K of *sales* at the auction -- profit and the actual amount that should be donated to the charity are never mentioned -- and over 500K of royalties on the convention itself.

I re-read the case file a couple times, consulted a lawyer pal, and have produced this distillation of it: http://www.adamjury.com/2008/gen-con-sued-by-lucasfilm-llc/

Thanks Adam.

Lucas is clearly starving. Look how skinny he's gotten. The poor dear...

Well, you can only feed off your past successes for so long, I suppose

He has to find a way to fund the next film he will ruin with bad direction and geeky deidcation to f/x in place of real character development.
