Dumpshock Forums _ General Gaming _ I killed Fawkes. Fallout 3

Posted by: ethandrul Oct 28 2009, 04:38 AM

Ok, so I beat the game with The way over powered super mutant side kick. After doing the main story of the broken steel add on, I decided to kill Fawkes...to see if I could.

Ok, so i'm in the Citidel in an area with lots of unkillable NPCs. I kick Fawkes to the cirb- I tell him to get lost. Then I shoot him from stealth mode with my Gauss rifle to knock him down. Then I keep shooting him. He pops up and starts attacking the brotherhood of steel- and they attack back ( but since they don't die who cares)
Now every shot of the gauss does about 100 pts of damage, I have beefed up my energy weapons and small arms to 100, and I do tons of damage on a crit.
needless to say he doesn't get to attack very often.

We lay down a layer of fire thicker then a 1970's porn starlets bush.
There is :
Me
Lyons (both of them)
Tristan
Gallows
and another guy.

It took us literally 53 minutes to kill him.

I tried different weapons too- mini nukes? nothing to him
bottlecap mines? he didn't set them off.
reverse pick pocketing? immune.

so, it came down to hard work and perserverence.
But in the end-

I killed Fawkes

Did he drop anything good?
How much XP did that net you?

Posted by: ethandrul Oct 28 2009, 01:02 PM

50 XP on normal difficulty. He only dropped the stuff I had given him and a Gatling Laser

im guessing you were a high level. ive had her die in the cross fire a handful of times at lower levels.

Posted by: ethandrul Oct 28 2009, 08:39 PM

yeah level 25. but i had fawkes since like 18- and i decided he was immortal

Posted by: Stahlseele Oct 29 2009, 09:41 AM

And if all of those together took 53Minutes to kill him, he IS basically immortal . . Well, at least for game purposes . .
I would love to pit him one on one against a death claw
or one of those really big super mutants. Or maybe Liberty Prime.

I took him into the deathclaw sanctuary he killed 2 at the same time by himself- i was busy with a few of my own- I loooooove the gauss rifle

Yeah, that Thing is TEH UBOR!
Also, i can FINALLY play my Fallout3 again . .
Having figurred out, why it crashed every some minutes . .
Believe it or don't, they more or less removed multi core support with the versiojn 1.1 Patch . .
And it did not get better with the 1.7 Patch and/or the DLC's either.
But as soon as i manually edited it back into the .ini, it worked without crashing again . .

Fawkes is invincible when you first encounter him....

That's how I managed to get his Super Sledge. It either got damaged or another Super Mutie shot it out of his hand, so I picked it up. Fawkes continued to clear the rest of Vault 87 barehanded. I just stayed stealthed in my Chinese Stealth Suit.

And Stahl, I wonder if that may be why I have performance issues on the PS3 version. The PS3 is natively a multi-core system, so if they disabled that config in the updates that may explain my game freezing issues.

if you can hand edit the ini files, you can bring it back up to speed.
i'll look upwhat i did, when i get home tonight.

Oh, I know how to fix it on the PC. The problem is I don't know of any way to get at the config files on the PS3 version (they did the same thing on Oblivion).

I challenge you all to find the fastest way to kill him...without resorting to leaving him in Megaton and blowing the place up.

My initial guess is to reverse pickpocket a grenade or mine on him. IIRC that's supposed to be scripted as a kill command rather than heavy damage.

Posted by: Stahlseele Oct 29 2009, 05:16 PM

initial posting said he was immune to reverse pickpocketing.
Let him go up against the Ant-Queen Thingies. Or the BIG supermutants.
See how that works.

I bet he can't breathe underwater.
or survive being pushed off a satellite tower.

Posted by: Stahlseele Oct 29 2009, 07:08 PM

i would not bet on that.

Posted by: StealthSigma Oct 29 2009, 07:30 PM

How about roasting him while he's in his holding cell in Vault 82. Does that work?

Posted by: Stahlseele Oct 29 2009, 09:22 PM

If he does not heal faster than he burns.
and it's still going to take HOURS to kill him that way.

I'm pretty sure that is a scripted event that issues a kill command....

Posted by: ethandrul Oct 30 2009, 08:53 PM

and it doesn't count if he isn't your follower when you kill him

well, upon further experimentation- it seems that shooting him off a satellite relay so he falls to the ground kills him. BUT if you shoot him off of one of the walkways below the relay, he doesn't die. he takes 2 bars of damage.

MIV him in VATS sao your imortar the you shuld be able to finish him off works best in a very small area with space to flee to later. After pick a nasty weapon like vengence and let rip It shoul tak e him down. Or if you can one more VATs MIV shot nyahnyah.gif.
