The 80s visually and culturally were the primordial soup that produced Shadowrun. This influence is especially clear in SR1, still the greatest edition. This thread is for posting awesome 80s music videos that get you all pumped up to play Shadowrun. I'll start it off, you contribute.

Hmm I was a metal head in the 80's oh hell what am I saying..I still am. But Queensryche (Mind Crime and Empire) and KMFDM set SR for me. As well as some bands from over the pond. Some of these vids may slip into early nineties but then so did SR.

This is true. "The '60s" technically went well into the 1970s. Though I would quibble that the '80s ended in '95. I wouldn't equate Ice-Cube with the '80s.

I don't know... Would we not consider the Sex Pistols a primarily 80s band? And they started BEFORE the 80s. Plus, everything Reagan was obviously 80s. I'd tend to say the 80s included everything from 1976, when the Sex Pistols started making their first big album, to at least 1992, when Bush Sr. left office.

The 70s were from '75-'76. They pretty much sucked.

I don't know about that. There's some ancient and powerful magic coming from the early 80s. This includes Lone Wolf McQuade, Gymkata, and American Ninja.

EDIT: And how could I forget to mention "Revenge of the Ninja" with Sho Kosugi? Although that film was set in California it was filmed in Utah and at a buliding called American Towers. If you google it you can see that that building is still existing and it appears to have the same rooftop spa setup that was used for the final ninja battle in that film. WHO WANTS TO MAKE A HOLY NINJA PILGRIMAGE TO UTAH???

I used to sit in the security room at American Towers watchin the security monitors trying not to fall asleep. I can honestly say...never did I see a ninja...of course that was probably the point.

IMO...the 70's was the hangover from the 60's. I can't say when an era started or ended with any authority, I can say that the 80's were good to me!

EDIT: I used to play a Blondie CD on my laptop while playing one of the most righteous and awesome Vietnam War games ever, EA's SEAL Team. It had suppression fire, real formations and hand signals used by SEALs, and you could call for extraction, support, or emergency extraction whenever you wanted. You could tell the squad how much automatic fire to use and you had to manage your ammunition supply. You could be extracted either by helicopter or by boat and could call for either as circumstances dictated. If one member of the SEAL team was killed you had to drag his body around. The game actually prompted you "pick him up". If two team members (out of a four man team, the Officer In Charge, the Corpsman, the Rear Security, and the Pointman) were killed the team automatically called for emergency extraction. You also had a roster of SEALs who gained skills and experience as you used them, and if any of them died they were out of the game forever, AND the game showed a picture of a formal military funeral after the mission and displayed this long textual script which was a speech given at the funeral. I think it was a pretty heartfelt speech seeing as the game was actually created by military personnel. I played it through like four times and of course this song was often playing in the background which was just the right touch.
