Dumpshock Forums _ General Gaming _ C&C: Red Alert 3

Posted by: Tanegar Jul 31 2010, 02:42 AM

Red Alert 3, at the risk of horrifying any C&C diehards who may be reading, is the first game in the series that I've ever bought. I wanted a break from games-as-http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SeriousBusiness, and I think I got just that. I keep expecting Tim Curry to pick bits of scenery out of his teeth at the end of every scene. And the cheesecake, sweet Yog-Sothoth, the cheesecake. I love the fact that showing cleavage is apparently mandatory for female officers. Yes, I am a bad, bad man.

The RA series has gotten progressively less serious with each rendition. RA 1 was quite serious for the most part, RA 2 was fairly serious, but had more 'cartoony' graphics (And a few wonky things), and then RA 3 just went totally crazy. Cheesecake also increased with each one as I recall. First one just had Tanya, second had Tanya and one (or two?) sexy intelligence officers

RA 2 was my favorite. I'm always bad when strategy games have tons of special abilities because I'm fairly slow with the mouse, so I have trouble microing troops, so RA 3 with basically every unit having a special ability just didn't do well with me.

I love how Yoshiro is inadvertently rapping in the first Soviet mission. I've got it for the 360 though, and it seems to fit better than it would on PC. Special abilities are just a trigger-pull away.

Depends on the ability I suppose. The ones where I press to have something happen aren't so bad, but the ones that have to be targeted can be a pain, and sometimes it can just be difficult to keep track of who is in what mode and such. Maybe 360 has some stuff to help streamline that since it is working with a gamepad instead of a mouse.

RA1 had just Tanya, RA2 had Tanya and Eva, RA3 goes crazy.

And yes, insert applicable sounds of horror here at starting with RA3.

On 360 everything's on A and B, but all the special stuff (build queues, special abilities) is in the right trigger menu, which can annoy you when you're moving the camera or trying to see the field, but it's easier to use the camera controls with two joysticks.

Well, yeah. I do like the accent too.

Now I'm going to have to pop the RA series back onto the system and relive the glory days. 'Cept 3. haven't played 3 yet.
