Dumpshock Forums _ Shadowrun _ SR Artwork

Well, I have already put one piece of art up, but I think I am going to do as Squinky and accept commsions from people that would like to see sketches do of their characters. I will first give you a example of one of my characters, a troll that goes by the name of Bass. I am of the school that doesn't focus on the meta part of metahumanity, instead giving a more human feel to my metas. The ones after Bass are already finished requests.

Hey, i really like that...i am one of those folks who does picture trolls and orks and the like more like this, rather than the fantasy-esque versions of them. It adds a grittier edge. smile.gif

I have a couple of characters i wouldn't mind seeing your takes of, if i jot down descriptions of them. Theyve been drawn before but i am a one that likes seeing differing variants. biggrin.gif

Both off the top of my head are human though, but i have one meta that i perhaps might want to see grinbig.gif ill pick one and let you know. But again, nice work!

Posted by: eidolon Dec 29 2006, 02:31 PM

Nice. I'm a big fan of art from that approach.

Posted by: Moon-Hawk Dec 29 2006, 03:10 PM

Very nice. More! More! wink.gif

Posted by: knasser Dec 29 2006, 07:38 PM

Oh I like. I like very much. Has a really 3D feel to it and I've always liked the more human trolls and orcs. You say you take commissions? Does that mean I have to pay? If not, then I'm going to ask for one. smile.gif

Ice: A lean and muscular elven hit-woman from Berlin. Caucasian. Late twenties, early thirties. Has synthetic muscles giving her a very defined gymnastic look. Long white-blonde hair and a perfect face. Defining features - the coldest , most heartless expression you can manage and dresses like a mercenary from a hot climate. Favours a rifle and has a penchant for gecko gloves. Very feminine features, but not a top-heavy pin-up fantasy type. A realistic professional. In my game, she is the player's nightmare, played intelligently and always shoots to kill.

If this is not what you're asking for, no problem. I just think with artwork like that and a hint of accepting requests, you're going to get flooded. Wanted to get in quickly. wink.gif

Very nice, regardless. Cheers for sharing!

Yeah, ill put in my things here...tell you what, pick the one you like the most. smile.gif

Johan: A Giant-metatype of troll, shaman whose mentor spirit is Odin. Young, about 25, with long, red-blonde hair, and a long, thick braided goatee(no mustache). His right eye is gone, taken out in a ritual, like Odin of the legend. Fairly handsome for a one eyed Giant(that sounds funny grinbig.gif , in a 'metal' looking way, you could say? Fetishes around his neck(one of a small Gungnir), Odin's spear, which he uses a replica of in battle. Horns on his head are odd....they start behind his ears and curve forward, under his chin...if you can picture that. Runes and the like tattooed around his arms, and a few around his neck, also. As a giant metatype, he stands around a whopping 3 meters. Besides jacket, wears jeans, lace-up combat boots. but if it's just a head/shoulders shot, this won't matter too much. smile.gif

Second:

Human Male, 'Vil'

Let's see, pretty tall, above average build, but not huge. Shoulder-length, thick brown hair(well, black and white pics of course, but habit.) Usually dresses in tanks, jeans, heavy boots, old, worn black military jacket. Looks handsome but a little on the disheviled side, like he sleeps about four hours a night. Small bit of scruff on his chin. Is always seen smoking a ciggarette and more often than not with coffee/alcohol. Weapons specialist that knows how to use almost anything that's been produced thats held in a hand, as well as fix/improve/repair it(or break it ;p) i guess somewhere on him a harness with a heavy pistol somewhere or his combat axe would work. About 30 years old. Prefers to work with small-medium firearms, combat axe, knife, unarmed. No visible chrome; his cybereyes are colored like his natural, gray.

..this is what I like to go for as well. Alas, most of my characters are human (yeah, I'm a cheapskate when it comes to BPs) so I've done very few character pics of other metatypes.

OK I'll bite

Three metas I have run (SR3) are:

Katyana Markova: Dwarf, ex New Soviet Space Command physician (Biotech: 10) and cosmonaut (Athletics - Zero G: 8 ). Slightly thinner and taller than most of her kind due to spending a good deal of her life in microgravity & low grav environments. Blonde Hared (short), Blue Eyed, personable (eg: good bedside manner Charisma of 4). Still longs to go back into space. Though she left the New Soviet because of ideological differences, she is very proud of her Russian heritage (her line goes back to the time of the Czars). Being ex-military, she is trained with assault rifles (has an Ares Alpha). She also uses a Super Squirt (Gamma S) & Dart Pistol (Narco), weapons that work well in space habitats. All of her implants (save for her induction Datajack and Smartlink Pad) are internal. She also has Aluminum Bone Lacing. Her major flaw is Agorophopbia (don't take her out to sea or the desert).

Night Angel: Elf Former member of the Seraphim ("Fallen Angel"). One hell of a looker (appears to be in her late teens - early 20s Charisma 7 natural). Groomed as an infiltration specialist and assassin, she became the group's Face/Covert Ops Specialist. Angel has a number of sensory implants. Has natural eyes with several retinal mods. Cyberears (cosmetic enhancement) with a full suite of enhancements. No other obvious implants (the rest is internal body ware and Bioware) One of her bio implants is Chemical Gland (arsenic) which she playfully refers to as her "Kiss of Death". Silvery White Hair cut in a short sassy style, Steely Grey Eyes (when not in disguise). 5' 7". Likes to wear very sexy clothing. Usually packs a Savalette Guardian and Ares Super Squirt (loaded with Gamma S). For those special missions, she uses a Walther 2100 sniper rifle. Her one major flaw is Incomplete Deprogramming - Sometimes she thinks she's the sniper, oh wait, no I'm the electronics wiz.

Gracie: Dwarf Mercenary. Gracie is a former member of MET2000, the AEG's premiere Mercenary company. She is a weapons specialist skilled in firearms and melee. She has long Auburn Hair which she usually wears in a thick braid, and captivating Brown Eyes (Charisma 4). Gracie is tough as nails in combat and has the 6pt ambidexterity edge. She is very strong (rating 12 augmented) and able to stand her ground going total lead hose with her Ares Alpha. She is also surprisingly agile (Rating 8 quickness - again augmented). On a mission she usually carries her Ares Alpha, twin Guardians (Named "Stadtler & Waldorf") and dual Dikoted Cougar Fineblades (Named Rosenkrantz & Guildenstern" - yes she has knowledge of Shakespeare), Gracie also has a soft spot for orphaned kids (she was one herself) and donates part of the money she earns from jobs to local orphanages. She even has a Mother Superior contact who is head of a local Seattle children's home. Having seen a lot of action when with MET2000, she has the Flashbacks flaw (trigger seeing dead children).

Never piss on an electric fence.

I'll see if I can come up with any more for you. biggrin.gif

(But seriously, I would love to see what you could do with mine. She's probably not very way out there as characters go, but she's one of my favourites).

Posted by: ElFenrir Dec 30 2006, 12:49 AM

hehe, yeah, since i somehow developed the flaw incompetence: art awhile back(after college animation i think i have a mental block), its always cool to see drawings. biggrin.gif Very cool to see you guys who can draw doing this for us!

Posted by: knasser Dec 30 2006, 12:59 AM

Actually, I have a second request, but it's not a character this time. I've been trying to develop my art skills and one of the things I've only recently come to appreciate is how much effort artists put into their work. Typically I've sat down, started drawing, looked at it after five minutes and decided I'm useless. Now I've started to read more and I find people saying, "Oh, it took me four days to paint this" I'm having a bit of an "Ohhhh..." moment. I'd be really interested to know how long it takes you to do these sketches. Do you bash them out in five minutes. Do you fiddle around with them for an hour? Please tell!

Posted by: Trigger Dec 30 2006, 01:17 AM

Well, Knasser, her is your first request, Ice...I hope it is ok for you. And as for your second request, it usually takes me between 30 minutes to up to two hours to do a sketch, this one being about 30 minutes. Although, to say the truth, it only feels like five minutes. biggrin.gif

Sometimes I wish I had practiced my drawing for the last ten years or so instead of playing computergames, for example.
If I had, I think I could dish out some good drawings. Well, I can probably start practicing now and in a dozen years, I will be fairly competent biggrin.gif.

I'll praise (or criticize) Triggers drawing when I have seen more of them.

You mean he is a rare Giant, as the fact that he has horns (most giants don't, due to fact that they lack any dermal deposits) and the fact that he is only 3 meters tall (most average about 3.5). He is more troll like than most giants....

He is the next one I am working on, have either later tonight, or early tomorrow.

Posted by: ElFenrir Dec 30 2006, 02:51 AM

Well, i talked to the GM about the horns, and he said he was cool with it(im sure that there are normal Trolls born without them now and again.) I just thought they'd look pretty cool on him.

As for height...yeah, 3.5 or so meters might be closer...when i said 3 meters i think i might have been a bit confused at the moment. I was also at work. biggrin.gif But thanks for noticing that.

And i look forward to seeing him! smile.gif

That's really good! And it's nice to know how long it took. Now I have a benchmark for comparison.

It doesn't actually look anything like I pictured the elven character, but I do like it. I think I'll create another character to match it.

Thank you! I'll look forward to seeing you do everyone else's now. smile.gif

Ok, I'm going to toss in one too.

Moomin
Moomin is bald, with the pale complexion that comes from being night-active, underground, and generally a bit too chubby. His extra weight clings mostly to his torso though, and his arms and legs sort of poke out of him. Because of this, he prefers lose, baggy clothes that conceal his physical condition. As a technician, he is a great fan of cargo pants, vests with lots of pockets, and things that will easily clip on to belts, buckles, wrists, and so on. Like many nerds before him, he is also fond of guns, and has a silent but childlike fascination for firearms, which he has displays by tricking out his AK-97.

Moomin is a hacker from Finland. wink.gif

EDIT: Oh, and I'll toss in a critique as well. The arms of "Ice" seem to be a little short and undefined. Especially when compared to the muscle work you've proved you can do on "Bass".

Posted by: Trigger Dec 31 2006, 09:04 AM

Yeah, now that I look back on Ice, I don't like the drawing....so I am going to do another version of her, because dammit I know I can do better.

Also, I feel like drawing a sketch of all of my own current characters in the games I am in on here, so be expecting those soon too, along with a new Ice, and Johan. I will get to others after the new year.

Posted by: Draug Dec 31 2006, 09:05 AM

Well that's just great. Now I get too pictures for the price of one! biggrin.gif

Keep the original on there. It's still a good drawing. I just don't think it looks at all elven or like the character. I pictured Ice as being much leaner and more gymnastic.

The arm across her chest makes her look subconciously defensive, which I actually like.

Posted by: Trigger Dec 31 2006, 12:57 PM

Well, I haven't been able to sleep at all tonight, so I have a lot done, though you guys won't get to see any till later, because I have to use my house mates scanner to scan these. I redid Ice, did one of Johan, one of Vil, and one of Night Angel. Yep, I have been busy and just to let knasser know, each of them took me about an hour, give a half hour, take about fifteen...so anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half.

Yeah, so I will get those up later today...probably after work, and then get started on the two dwarven women ( biggrin.gif oh yeah ) and Moomin.

And tell your friends...I want to get this thread popular and hopefully get sticky-ed like Squinky's.

Well alright ... I wouldn't mind tossing an elf into the ring ... at least this one is male. biggrin.gif

Alistair O’Shea is short for an Elf, standing barely over 6 feet in height, although he does have the typical lean, wiry elven frame. He keeps his black hair cut in a short and trendy style, and his piercing lavender eyes are sometimes mistaken for cyber at first glance.

A tattoo of a stylized dragon formed into the shape of a letter 'Q' adorns his right shoulder, an identical copy of the engraved jade ring that adorns his right hand. A single small amethyst earring pierces the lobe of his left ear.

Alistair strives to appear well-groomed at all times, and his clothing usually takes the form of one of the latest street-chic club trends. His eye for fashion and ability to magically alter his clothing almost at will means that Alistair always seems to be dressed appropriately for any given situation.

Obviously, Alistair is a mage. He doesn't usually carry any weapons, apart from a stun baton on a hidden arm slide (and even that only rarely).

Umm ... he's 31, and very much enjoys the good things in life that money can buy. He despises what he considers menial tasks like cooking, cleaning, and the like, preferring to either use his magic to accomplish what needs to be done, or to leave it entirely in the hands of someone more experienced, and indeed more suited to that level of work.

Deep down, Alistair is a racist, elitist snob living a the high life as a permanent student with a large (and ill-gotten) trust fund. I love this guy. biggrin.gif

I have absolutely no artistic talent, and as such have no clue what, if any, additional detail you might require. embarrassed.gif

Whoa!! biggrin.gif Ok, they are awesome! Johan has the perfect look of a guy thats been through hell to get to where he is...the rugged look is really well portrayed. The runes added onto his neck are likewise really excellent.

Vil has that same perfect sleepless, chainsmoker persona, of a guy whose been doing this for awhile, can do other things but is somehow stuck. He looks tired, a bit despondent yet still like a guy who can definately do the job. Has an excellent old pure SR feel to it.

Very nice work, and thanks!! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Draug Jan 1 2007, 08:20 PM

Hey! What happened to Moomin!? I feel ignored!!one!1!

EDIT: Anyway, comments/critiques:

- Ice 2 is excellent. Could maybe do with a little more shadow on the face, but nah, that just depends on the light, I guess. She's hot, and well-drawn.
- Johan is awesome. I really like this guy's look, and you've added a lot of nice details that make him unique. I also like his facial expression.
- Vil's eyes strike me as a bit big and doll-like. I guess I should have made that comment on Bass too. Aside from that, it's great.
- Night Angel's got the right look in the eyes, but her chin and neck lines make her seems...pudgy. Make her chin straighter, and move the front of her neck a little back, and curve the rear of her neck the other way, I think. It also needs some shadows.
- Alistair is nice, but his looks strike me as a little too young and goofy for an arrogant 30-something elf. His chin seems to be pulled down toward his throat, sort of as if surprised.

Posted by: knasser Jan 1 2007, 08:43 PM

Actually I strongly disagree with Jarl on one point - NightAngel's "pudginess". She looks like a real woman (albeit elven) and I think it looks good. I think the contrast with Ice, another elven woman, shows that you can manage a variety of different facial types. Whilst Ice has the slim, elegant look, NightAngel's rounder face makes her a lot more sexual (to me), which is what KK asked for. I think slimming her face down would impact on that.

My personal opinions, but wanted to share my counterpoint.

Posted by: Squinky Jan 1 2007, 09:14 PM

I personally am enjoying this thread muchly. I appreciate your style a lot and see some things in it that I am jealous of. You seem to be more portrait oriented and have a lot more ability to show facial expressions/variety than I can. I think a lot of that comes from my background as an avid comic book collector.

Anyways, good stuff man, and try not to get discouraged when the requests pile up high on ya.

Posted by: Trigger Jan 1 2007, 09:50 PM

Jarl- Moomin is on his way, I was just inspired to do Alistair first. Don't worry though, you will get your fat hacker from finland.

Also, on Alistair, Fortune said he was 31, which for elf means he looks like he is in his late teens, early twenties at the most. Elves bodies mature a lot slower than humans. If he had said it was troll at 31, then there would be age lines and wrinkles and signs of aging as equivalent to a 60 year old human....just me explaining the younger features of Alistair.

Posted by: Draug Jan 1 2007, 10:28 PM

A right. I forgot that because I hate the age differences between metas doesn't mean that they aren't there...

Also, ok on Night Angel. I still think there is something a bit wonky with her throat though...

Posted by: Ophis Jan 2 2007, 01:47 AM

Trigger - Elves don't mature that slowly! they hit full maturity at about 20 (twoish years behind humans). At 26 they stop ageing physically so look like they're in their early twenties for god knows how long.

Posted by: Draug Jan 2 2007, 03:07 AM

Okay, but that still justifies him looking 20-something, so I'm cool with it.

Not that it was my character request anyway...

Posted by: ElFenrir Jan 2 2007, 03:40 AM

Yeah, all these drawings are turning out to be lookers. smile.gif

The only race i know for sure that ages alot quicker are orks....orks hit maturity at 15 i believe. Trolls have livespans of almost 60...so they do ok....a 30 year old troll wouldnt look that much older. And ever notice that in most drawings in the SR books, most dwarves tend to look older, even though they have lifespans of....pretty long, couple hundred years i believe? You dont see too many pics of young dwarves or older elves(there have been descriptions of elves that look like a middle aged human) in book material.

Of course, im 29 and still get carded to go to bars...in Finland where the drinkng age is 18. So age can do funny things sometimes. grinbig.gif

Posted by: Butterblume Jan 5 2007, 09:30 PM

Thanks to Trigger and this thread he started, I just sketched my first portrait in years wink.gif.

Using a HB 0,7 mm mechanical pen and squared paper, it turned out surprisingly well, even if I say so myself (far from perfect, of course).

I guess I'll buy a proper B pencil tomorrow and steal some of the printer paper biggrin.gif.

If Trigger doesn't object, I'll post some of my better tries here (when I figure out where to scan them).

Posted by: Trigger Jan 6 2007, 02:17 AM

Butterblume- Yeah, no problem. That is just fine with me.

And Jarl- Sorry about the wait for Moomin, but work has been crazy. I will finish him either tonight or tomorrow.

So, this is my first try. I actually photographed my sketch with an old, defect digital camera I remembered having cool.gif.

...hopefully this is not a double post.

just had the tab close on me while replying (& having written quite a bit) I hope I can remember it all. For some reason the history menu opened the original window as it was before I started entering the reply.

...Using a digital camera is a neat trick though there is of course loss of image quality (similar to recording your stereo through a microphone rather than using the "line in" input)

There are several works that can be of big help (check your local library or used bookstore). By far the best of these are the Byrne Hogarth Dynamic series. There are four books, Dynamic Anatomy, Dynamic Figure Drawing, Drawing the Human Head, and Drawing Dynamic Hands (this last one is indispensable as the hands can be the most expressive yet the most difficult part of the body to draw). Another book, though somewhat stylised and self promoting, is Stan Lee's and Jack Kirby's How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way. It actually has a lot of useful tips and shortcuts which help make a figure appear that it can actually move (all too often I see very "stilted" poses). It also builds on (and references) the Hogarth material.

Now to the Critique:

When I do a portrait I usually begin with outlining the shape of the head as a three dimensional object and sketching the "key lines", one down the centre of the face, one for the eye level, and one for the mouth level (this is from the Hogarth method). This keeps the facial features from developing unnatural angles in relation to each other. The basic curve for the ears should begin at the back of the jawbone and go up to the eye line.

In your work it appears that the eyes are somewhat three quarter view while the nose and mouth are almost frontal view. The mouth should have more shape instead of be a straight line (again the books I recommended deal with this) for she looks pretty "dour". The basic proportions of the character's head (face to cranium relation) are pretty good.

Drawing in a totally photographic manner is not always a good thing especially when you want to inject personality. The eyes are almost "too natural" looking and therefore expressionless (think of the old cliche, "the eyes are the mirror of the soul"). Take a little artistic liberty, a bit of exaggeration (such as making the eyes a bit more almond shaped and giving them a focal point) can go a long way.

For noses, I usually "suggest" (a term my drawing professor in college used) the bottom and the upper part of the bridge. This keeps it from becoming too prominent.

I also include the subject's shoulders in most portraits I do to give more of a basis for the head and the face (go on line and look at head shots of media stars, almost all include the shoulders if not the full bust).

Hope this helps.

Way better than anything I could manage with out tracing (and better than most of those).

Only thing I would say is that you have the eyes to far up the face. Eyes sit halfway up the head. I'm sure if you look on the web you'll find more detailed guides to proportion, which may help your work. Though I've seen this mistake with several other would be artists.

Posted by: Trigger Jan 7 2007, 01:36 AM

Well, Jarl, finally here is your Moomin. I didn't know exactly what you wanted, so I took a few liberties on my own account as the artist...ie, cyberware (ears, eyes, datajack, AR glasses [cause I thought they look cool]) and also the goattee. I didn't rmeber if you wanted him with any facial hair or not, but in my head I thought he would llok much better with it. So here you go, Moomin.

Posted by: Draug Jan 7 2007, 01:54 AM

He looks awesome. I don't mind the facial hair at all. Very nice.

The hand though, seems a little wierd. looks kinda like it's sticking up from behind his shoulder...

Posted by: Trigger Jan 7 2007, 01:57 AM

I didn't really take proportion into account there, since I thought my scanner was going to cut the bottom off the pic like has been doing to me others...it is kind of meant to be viewed from the beginning of the shoulder line and up.....I might go back and fix it at a later time, but for now....nah.

Posted by: Draug Jan 7 2007, 02:14 AM

I like the face anyway, and that's what counts. Thanks a lot, man.

Posted by: Trigger Jan 7 2007, 02:16 AM

No problem....now I just need more to draw....I don't feel any inspiration towards drawig those dwarf women...I guess I will do a couple of my own character until I get some requests....

Posted by: Draug Jan 7 2007, 02:29 AM

I have one. It's full body, if you feel up to it.

A rather small soldier in a gas mask. In addition to a layout of assault rifle, sidearm, grenades, etc., he carries a rather powerful commlink, connected to several fly-spy style droids (have them hovering nearby). He uses the droids as reconnaisance, allowing him to engange targets through walls and other vision-limiting obstacles. Have him look a bit like an insect, a little hunkered down, bulked up by armor and gear.

If you feel like throwing in some scenery, put him inside a ruined house. The basic idea is next-generation urban elite soldier. Heavyly loaded, specialized, and with a lot of intelligence-gathering and assessment options to increase his tactical abilities.

Posted by: Trigger Jan 7 2007, 02:30 AM

Now that sounds like fun and a challenge....

*grabs trusty mechanical pencil and goes to work*

Posted by: ElFenrir Jan 7 2007, 03:01 AM

Hehe, Moomin looks pretty awesome i think. biggrin.gif

Well, heres another one for ya, he's been drawn before, but again, i like to see multiple takes on the guys. smile.gif I have 'em all in a folder on my comp.

Stian, human male, about 6', wiry but muscled build, pretty attractive(to the goth club chicks anyway), long, straight black hair, really pale, small black goatee on his chin. 'Black Metal' look to him, sleeveless shirts, inverted cross necklace, spiked bracelets, black BDUs, tucked into black boots(tall, with buckles, and more spikes). Full sleeve of tats on right arm, half on left in varied pagan and demonic designs. Physical Adept, Black Magic path. He's in his late 20s, looks about in his mid, which isnt too much different.

Hope this is enough. This is one third of the famous 'all magically active party whose stealth skills amounted to that of people holding bushes and running behind them' team. grinbig.gif

Jarl, your urban insect soldier guy is doen as of now, I just have to wait for my house mate to get home so I can use his scanner to get the guy online. I don't own a scanner of my own yet, so my posting timing is a tad limited.

ElFenrir, I am going to start on your goth guy in a bit....feelimg insomniac again....but must sleep, have to work in the early AM tomorrow.

I couldn't believe it. I thought I had the eyes in the right place (by drawing a line halving the outline of the head). But I checked in that sketch and two others I did yesterday, and you're right.
Funny thing, but good that you catched that before I grew accustomed to it smile.gif.

That one is my favorite so far.

Posted by: wargear Jan 8 2007, 12:44 PM

I don't know whether any of these will interest you, but i'll describe the characters from our groups most successful team. We'd love to see them drawn.

Chronos, the team leader. Aged mid 30's after a lionization a few years back. A strong jawed, thoughtful man. Irish stock, with light hair (cut very short) and grey eyes. He has a delta grade datajack on either side of his head. Habitually dresses in business suits, often with a hard hat when working in the field. Emblem on hard hat is a stylised cog. Has a muscular build from a lifetime in special forces. Has disturbing swirly™ tattoos over most of his body, but like yakuza tatts, they don't show much while wearing clothes.

Silver, the team face. A slender female elf still in her 'youth' of irish descent. Was once a physad, but was burned out during a mission years ago, and has replaced her powers with the wire. Silver irised cybereyes, a single datajack behind her left ear (both delta). Platinum blonde hair, worn in a severe ponytail. Power suit. Lean build, augmented by cyber and bioware, and a lifetime in special forces.

Gray, the combat mage. Aged in his late 30's. A multiple initiate mage, well aware of his own power, but humble not arrogant. Stocky build of saxon heritage, wears sturdy practical suits (armoured) with the usual long coat (london fog). He wears his weapon foci sword at all times, on the left hand side of his belt, but mostly hidden by the coat. An Ares Predator is holstered in his right armpit. His hair is dark, not black, and worn in a military style. His eyes are grey. A delta grade datajack is situated behind his left ear.

Jack Flash, the sam. Aged in his late 20's. Skinny build with massively etched muscles thanks to a dangerously active lifestyle, significant cyberaugmentation and a 10 year stint in special forces. Wears traditional scottish kilt and so on with big clunky combat boots. Prominent cheekbones. Black hair and rich blue cybereyes. A delta grade datajack behind his left ear. Extensive scarring over his arms and torso. Is never far from a duffel bag full of suspicious bulges.

These were the core group of Colonel Harland's Eleven. Individually or as a group shot in front of an APC bearing the stylised cog corporate logo would be very very cool.

ElFenrir- Here is Stian, I took a few liberties on him, namely the addition of some darker tattoo/or make up under one of his eyes and a piercing on one of his eyebrows, to give him a more gothic look. Tell me what you think of him.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/scottvash/Stian.jpg

Posted by: ElFenrir Jan 13 2007, 12:27 PM

eek.gif Wow, i do like it!! I like the additions to him alot, actually. I always pictured him with that 'gothic metal' look and this definately captures that. Goatee is perfect, as is the hair. I like the bit of the chain i can see as well(thats exactly how i pictured it around his neck, a rather thick one).

Really nice work, i thank you for that biggrin.gif Makes me want to dust off the character sheet and play him again(i get to play him off and on, as that is how often i play with my one SR group), which is due to be soon thankfully.

Posted by: Kyoto Kid Jan 14 2007, 06:13 PM

Nice expression and detail. Can't wait to see Dr Markova & Gracie.

Posted by: gobogen Jan 23 2007, 09:38 PM

Hey! Very good work. I really like your style.

For the rare ole-timers who might remember me, well I'm making a come back to these boards as soon as a new game pops up. Been missing SR a lot and I can't resist playing again. I'm rereading SR4 right now too. Can't wait to be in a game again. I might be tempted to start one of my own if I can find the time and get used to the new matrix rules.

Cheers

Alright, sorry for some of the delay, but I have been working on some artwork for my personal porfolio as I will have to submit it soon for a scholarship competition. But I thought I would grace you with some of my new work that has a bit of SR influence.

Hope you like these and I will get back to the requests soon.

Posted by: lorechaser Jan 26 2007, 03:10 PM

Those are pretty nifty. Any reason you've been doing only heads on the drawings here? You seem good with poses and action shots....

Posted by: Kyoto Kid Jan 26 2007, 03:46 PM

...same goes here. Your poses look very good.

The first gun, loks like a mix of a revolver and semi auto. Usually revolvers have a cyindrical barrel. Check the Ruger, Colt, and S&W Websites, you can get some great images from them to study. All make single and double action revolvers as well as semi automatics. SR4 also has some pretty good pics of the basic firearms in the gear section.

Posted by: Draug Jan 26 2007, 08:52 PM

They both look a little to big-eyed and smooth to me. I'd appreciate a few more lines of shading and stuff on their faces and clothing. Also, the first gun is held at a really odd angle, and the gangta-grip doesn't go well with the guy's looks or facial expression.

Keep 'em coming though. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Sir_Psycho Jan 27 2007, 12:24 PM

I'm just going to mention that the revolver barrel is not aligned with the barrel, which is kind of grating.

Of course, I should shut up. You do groovy stuff!

Posted by: Trigger Feb 25 2007, 09:30 AM

Alright, I am getting back into this art request thing and I am open for business again.

Wargear: I am working on your sketch as well, almost done...going to try and clean it up a bit more though.

Posted by: Kyoto Kid Feb 25 2007, 06:43 PM

...cool the DS Art Jam continues. Would be nice to see your take on my little keyboard virtuoso/mad bomber Leela. I'll PM her details a bit later.

Posted by: knasser Feb 25 2007, 06:50 PM

I've already had one (technically two) so put this one on the backburner for someone who hasn't had one, unless the ideas really apeal.

I have two that I'd like to see your take on, they're both seriously off the wall, so maybe a bit of a challenge. Pick whichever strikes your fancy (or both together if you want! ).

Wiggy is a red-haried, teenage troll shaman, skinny (for a troll) and permanently strung out. He has great difficulty with logical thinking and survives mainly on intuition and empathy. He's almost too nice to be a Shadowrunner and is great with spirits, seeming to have some sort of psychological connection to them which is why he seems batty to his teamates. So horns, reddish arfro, gangly body and a cheerful demeanor.

Teresa is two people. She's a mamba (voodoo priestess), slim, young, dark hair, creole. In normal life, shy and quite retiring. She always gives the impression that she's hiding (particularly in a group) and dresses simply. But when she is ridden by her loa, she is transformed into a wild, confident and exciting woman. The difference in expression and body language almost makes her look like a different person. If you really want to take a stab at it, a picture with both Teresa's in it, would be incredible!

Don't know if either of those appeal, but would love to see one if they do.

Great artwork so far, anyway!

-K.

KK, here are the prelim sketches for Leela, wanted to know what you thought about my take on her and if there were any changes you would like to request.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/scottvash/scan017.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/scottvash/scan018.jpg

Posted by: Kyoto Kid Feb 26 2007, 04:17 PM

...though she's a redhead, Leela does not freckle. I love the "wide eyed" innocent look & turned up nose (though the nose could be a bit narrower). Maybe a little more smoothness in the lower jaw and not so prominent eyebrows. Like blondes, reds tend to have lighter eyebrows as well.

The full body sketch is great. She definitely looks like a street waif form back in the war. Even though the prelim is small I like the shape of and suggested expression on her face a lot more.

Will the final of this be bigger?

Posted by: imperialus Feb 26 2007, 10:00 PM

If you have the chance I'd love to get a picture of my character. (sorry my actual request got edited out when I copy pasted the discription from Word... Got home and realized that I had just posted a very abrupt request for a character drawing without saying so much as please.)

Jean:
Male, Elvin, Christian Theurgist/Face. 23 years old. Mixed Quebecois/Chinese ancestry, approximately 6'2, carries a rosary as a power focus. He has straight black hair 2-3 inches long, and slightly pale skin for a Hong Kong native. He's quite well built, and very handsome (cha 6) but it's also quite obvious that working out is a foreign concept (str 2). Usually dresses in an actioneer business suit for meets or working cloths consisting of jeans, a T-shirt, and an armoured vest under a decent leather jacket. Has an intricate geometric tattoo on his left ear (sustaining focus). Carries a Fichetti Security 600 though he's never actually fired it at a person. Prefers to let other people do the fighting for him (quite literally when the slaps them with a mob mind) than get into shootouts himself. Carries himself with considerable confidence and it's obvious that while he's not a corp suit out slumming he's definitely a cut above the average street scum he deals with. He's actually a Cross company man working with the remnants of the Seraphim to help try and rebuild the company.

Posted by: Trigger Feb 26 2007, 11:50 PM

The final will most likely be bigger...I am hoping. I will try and make it is large and detailed as possible....might be done tonight...if not then tomorrow.

Posted by: Kyoto Kid Feb 27 2007, 01:08 AM

...cool, take your time, A little bit of background would be nice, nothing too complex or fancy.

Leela is by far one of my all time favourite characters, even over my namesake. This is very interesting to see the different interpretations of her all of which have been great so far.

I was thinking the more cartoonish looking spirits because of his tweaked out nature, but tell me what you think:

BWAH HA HA HA!

*snort*

I hope you enjoyed drawing that, because I most certainly enjoyed look at it! rotfl.gif

I think it's a great piece of work and you've got the ginger afro spot on. The expression is prime wiggy (classic quote: "No Wiggy! Not the Hellblast!" ). I never really envisaged his spirits as being quite so Caspar, but now that you've drawn it, I don't think I can imagine them any other way! biggrin.gif

An honest critique would be that he is too small, or looks to be. Even a troll that puts only one point into Str (as Wiggy did) has a rating of 5. I'd always envisaged him to be, although skinny, quite wide shouldered. A very sort of spare, rangy frame. I'm being greedy though. It looks really good and I can't wait to see the final piece. Thank you.

Trigger, could you please draw a pic of my hacker (decker) Zapper for me?

Zapper is a human hacker w/cyber eyes, ears, nose, a skin link and a implanted comlink. typcial geek, averige looking (blandness). The only "tech" clothing he has are AR gloves since his dad put a curse/protection spell on him (gremlins 4) all the rest of his clothes are regular. his icon is a neon blue lightning bolt with a face (two eyes and a mouth) and he is almost always playing at least two matrix games, either in AR or VR.

thanks i look foward to seeing how you picture him.

That's Wiggy, alright! If I ever get to actually play instead of GMing, I'm going to be sorely tempted to bring Wiggy out of the filing cabinet.

It's really good. Thank you! The expression and the afro is perfect and the spirits are hillarious. And I too like all the little details such as the rat in the wheelie-bin and the fact that you have your name in the graffitti (don't think I didn't spot that).

In fact I like it so much that I even went and http://www.knasser.me.uk/content/shadowrun/wiggy_colour.jpg. It was interesting to play around with a graphic package and I was mainly trying things out and learning what button does what, but I thought I should share.

Can I request to have you draw my shammy-cybermom? XD Her name is Mulan.

I’d just like a head shot if possible.

I’ll add a physical description of her to help give you a better picture. She's a 2nd generation Chinese/Japanese elf. Long white hair and fairly buff body for an elf. She has two synthetic cyber arms, on the right wrist she has a data jack and a smartlink on the left just a single smartlink. On her left wrist she also wears a hot pink leopard print slap bracelet which is a sustaining spell foci for one of our mages ‘fun’ spells (she gets to play ‘tag’ with people biggrin.gif heh). She has mirror-tinted cyber eyes. The shape of her eyes are almond. I’ve always seen her with an oval face. She has cyber ears as well but they’re a bit longer than the regular eleven shape, synthetic as well (not as long as Record of Lodoss Wars but add a few inches and that’s her). I’ve always envisioned her with very delicate features for some reason (big eyes and small pouty lips, haha).

She’s very… motherly. I didn’t start her out that way she just sort of evolved into that. Mulan believes in loyalty and is somehow able to inspire it with everyone she works with. She also doesnt like it when people mess with her 'family'. She’s incredibly kind and very patient. But when betrayed will kill you, blow up the block you’re on.

Recently she’s been carrying an Ultimax MMG and her magical katana (so far the only thing I can do is summon it from anywhere…). She also has a magical blue glowing tiger tattoo on back around her upper right shoulder. Normally she wears an armored jacket and plain bulky pants with lots of pockets to stash things in.

Okay that was long winded… sorry. dead.gif

...yeah, I can't wait to see the full body drawing of Leela. But I know about hardware issues. Until just recently I had always picked up used notebook computers. They would work nice for a while but eventually something would go & it was usually more trouble and expense to repair than just go out and get another one. I finally decided to heck with it all and dug deep in the pocket to go SOTA.

I'm a little reluctant to add to this thread as it's become a long string of bumps and I don't want to just join in. But on the off-chance Trigger is still willing to do some, I have a specific need for a character drawing. At least it would be very useful for my game. I have a character that I think really needs some visual representation to add to the impact.

I'll describe the character should Trigger be willing to take a stab at her, though of course I realise that I've had two characters off him already which is more than appreciated. Just as I say, that this would be useful.

The character is Siobhan Patrick, a music exec and banshee. She knows everyone who's everyone in the Seattle scene and has a string of SIMstars on her commlink's code link. She is very tall, very gaunt, obviously elven as a base type and retains her perfect symmetry and a certain, unhealthy beauty. Her white hair is styled in a tall wide shock and her make-up is very bold, very precise and sometimes in curling patterns over her face and body. 2070's goth, I suppose. Remarkably delicate hands, overly slim, overly long, nails like knife tips. In my game, she's about to release her fifth song file collection and has a horde of groupies who want her to feed on them and typically show up to her concerts in t-shirts reading "Haunt ME." It's that kind of world, I'm afraid.

And just when the world begins to give up all hope of ever seeing the beloved and mysterious Trigger again, he returns, albeit not in a blazing glory, but from a series of medical procedures, moving back in with family, and changing jobs.

Yes, I am back and I am so glad to all of you helped keep this little thread afloat. Many things have changed and I won't be on with as much frequency as I was before, but I will continue doing my drawings right after this weekend. So bring the requests on so that I can get my pencil back into gear and have inspiration to these things again.

Anyway, looking forward to the finished version of my little lady Leela when you can get around to her again. Take your time & get well first.

Welcome back. Hope health, living arrangements and career all go great for you from now on.

You already have my banshee request which would still be useful to my game if you fancy taking a crack at her.

And great to see you here again. smile.gif

I have so far tossed a couple of sketches up for this, though there haven't been too many comments towards them yet. I am also working on some of the sketches you all have requested here from me. I haven't forgotten about this thread and your requests, it is just taking me a little longer than expected to get back into the swig of things.

Also @KK: I do have the finished portrait sketch of Leela currently sitting in my stack of finished work on my clip board, I just haven't had a chance to scan her yet. I will be doing that tonight after I get home from work, so it will be up late tonight for you.

...great, thanks. Looking forward to seeing my little musical demolitionist.

I for one have enjoyed your contributions to the Swimsuit thread. The Ork is just too cool.

Kyoto Kid here is the finished sketch of the second version of Leela for you:

Posted by: Kyoto Kid Jun 6 2007, 05:15 AM

...yep, that's my little street urchin bomber all right . The unkempt hair and innocent child like face. This is the same girl who would hand over a grenade to a Serb soldier, pin intact, telling him she found it while she was playing. Little would he realise that she had disabled the mechanical trigger and rigged it with a micro radio detonator keyed to her micro transceiver/transducer implant. As she would skate away he would chuckle at her innocence only to be blown to bits moments later when she "thought" the trigger phrase after safely getting out of harm's way.

The phrase was her nickname "Starflake" which her late father referred to her by. Leela's family and ancestors were renowned throughout Europe for staging impressive pyrotechnic displays for major holidays and celebrations, hence her interest in all things explosive.

I have considered writing an actual story around her, but with all the licensing issues & such plus the latest news on the future of the Shadowrun property I figure I would have a better chance at winning my state's lotto than seeing the work published.

I have all your previous sketches of her downloaded on my system. I know you are just getting back into the swing of things, but after seeing your swimsuit Ork, I was wondering if you might not return to attempting the full body pose of Leela sometime down the road. No big rush. It would be interesting to see that pose done on a larger scale. In many ways, that little sketch has a decidedly graphic novel/animated feel to it as well.

Posted by: DTFarstar Aug 9 2007, 01:57 AM

If you are still open for business, Trigger, I would very much appreciate a sketch of my runner.

Alexei "Zeiner" Stalin - He is an elven male approx. 1.9 meters tall and 42 years old. "Zeiner" as he prefers to be called is a Russian elven mage, in control of his own initiatory group. He looks substantially older than most elves his age, though that might be due to the fact that his hair is a dirty gray color or the fact his eyes are nothing but acid pitted sockets. His face seems lined with pain at all times. Zeiner found out the hard way why people do not astrally travel outside the Gaiasphere. (what comes next is something cooked up between myself and my GM, and in no way is supposed to represent Shadowrun Canon in any way, no idea if it's at all accurate or possible) Zeiner, as the focus for his ritual group, tried to force his way out beyond the Gaiasphere as a way of tapping power from the manasphere of the sun. Their theory was that the Gaiasphere was interfering with their ability to connect with the mana of the universe as a whole. So, obviously an arrogant and impulsive man in search of power.

He always wears a hooded robe of the same color as his hair with a pure white headband wrapped around his eyes. Sometimes it is facing out with the symbol of the gang he belongs to, the Remnants. (bloody shards of class within a circle made of an Eastern Dragon). Whenever Zeiner is using magic, or even assensing a flesh devouring mist leaks from his eyes(also gray of course), hence never replacing them with cloned copies, he found out that just leads to intense amounts of pain unless he doesn't use magic and since he isn't willing to sacrifice his magic for cybereyes, he certainly won't take not using it at all. He has an incredible force of personality, and can be quite charming, but for an elf he is not at all pretty(Cha 8 with acid pitted holes in his face).

I think that is enough for you to be able to sketch him. Oh, if you want to do a full sketch with figures, Zeiner is always(well, as often as he can be anyway) accompanied by two ally spirits inhabiting plasteel homunculi in the form of imps. Clawed hands and feet, wings, the whole she-bang.

Anyway, if you feel up to it awesome, if not, that's ok too. If you need more detail/want more, let me know. Same goes for anyone else if his story is garbled a little, it's been a bad day so I'm basically stream of consciousness talking here.

Well Trigger, I'm interested to see your impression of Nix now that Aiden has ran with him a while...?

Posted by: Kyoto Kid Aug 9 2007, 02:40 PM

...good to see you back on the thread again.

Not sure if I asked this before ("old timer's disease" setting in) but I have a technical, question. I recently posted my swimsuit sketch of Leela to DA and am preparing to upload more of my work soon. All of it is pencil. I was wondering what settings you use to preserve that soft style that graphite gives (like in your first portrait sketch of Leela). I had to mess with contrast and brightness to get the image to show up, but am not terribly pleased with the output as it "grayed" the paper.

I do not have Photoshop, but I do have GIMP (which is very similar).

Looking forward to your next art posting of Alexi. May send another of my own.

Posted by: Trigger Aug 10 2007, 01:29 AM

I don't use any programs on my artwork to alter it at all, besides a slight change in brightness if needed during the scanning. I am almost clean my pages up a lot physically before scanning and I also make sure that my lines are of consistent darknesses. Those things usually make my scans come out a lot better.

Posted by: Kyoto Kid Aug 10 2007, 01:40 AM

...maybe it's the scanner then. What model (& DPI) do you usually use.

Posted by: Trigger Aug 10 2007, 03:10 AM

I have been using a basic HP all in one printer/scanner

Wow, this is promising, since it had been over a month since the thread was last used I was afraid it would slip past unnoticed. Seems that everyone is quite on the ball, however, which is awesome. I look forward to your impression of my arrogant, blind, Russian.

Just wanted to also say that I am no critic, but I envy everyone whose drawings I have seen here. I have beautiful images in my head, but I cannot seem to put them to paper. Inventions are more my thing.

@ the collective artists with their stuff on dA...

All of you have some great stuff, I'm really impressed. I have an account there as well (I write crap, no drawing skills to speak of), was going to look through your stuff there this morning when I found this thread, but it's in read-only right now so now faves or watches yet.

I will give it a try later today though!

Cheers, and see you around on dA probably smile.gif

/edit heh, that's what I get for reading 2 different threads in 2 different windows, this was actually for the swimsuit thread with multiple artists posting there...

But your stuff is cool, Trigger wink.gif

Posted by: Trigger Sep 3 2007, 11:49 AM

Thanks, and if I had a scanner that worked at the moment I would have a lot more up there and I have right now, as well as a lot more up on here (not all of which is on my DeviantArt either).

Thanks for the kudos though.

And so it came to pass that a certain runner would rise from the ashes and return to the shadows....

I figure this is a good a place as any to post of my return...

Well, I have been gone for almost a year now, trying to make it out in the vastness of the world on my own, and it seems that I now have a chance to return to a life that I have missed. I may not be able to reopen my work here (still don't have a scanner of my own) but I am going to try to return to posting on this site like I used to. I am sorry to any who were affected by my sudden disappearance, but some things just can't be helped.
