Let me start by saying that I left my copy of Arsenal @ my buddies place, Where we run the game. I know its a niggling detail, but dangit it does matter. What Assault rifle do the Texas Army carry? I am assuming that they have moved beyond the M-14 onto something with a bit more class.
The need would be
Cheap, Reliable, and good stopping power. And carry 1 more bullet than the guy shooting at me. (In the case the Azzies)
I am liking something like the M1 Garand. I like the idea of it having a small flaw. The ping of the ejector spring spitting out the last round. I am thinking a 31 round gun with standard reflex sights, A bolt on smartlink, and a under mount ring. either that or a supped up 45 smg.
The Azzies I expect would be using something with say 6P, 30 round clip smartlink, and a really cool ammo counter projected into the sight picture.
In my SR4 world shotguns are used a lot down there in Texas

God made men but it was Samuel Colt who made them equal. And then his heirs gave us the integral grenade launcher. Colt M22A3. If it's Texas it has to be a Colt.
I give them the standard weapon I used for the CAS army - Colt M22A3/Colt M23. Smartlink as standard, of course - in my campaign, almost all shooters, civilian and military, in the CAS have a smartlink (for safety reasons, and to keep up with the neighbors at events). For snipers the Walther WA2000 was said to be the standard sniper rifle of the CAS. Ares Predator as a side arm.
In this link this question is spelled out and addressed: http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=11960&b=1&st=0&p=0&#entry0
Colt might very well still be an independent Corporation. There are still quite a lot of smaller corps that are not a subsidiary of one of the big 11.
Also, big revolvers. See Lone Wolf McQuade. And bolt action rifle > M16A1.
Full auto has it's advantages.
Being able to shoot your opponent before his rounds have a chance to hit you can be a better one. It's one of the reason that the Arctic Soldiers of the Canadian Armed Forces still use SMLEs (Although, rechambred for a NATO round. It's so hard to get MilSpec .303 British Service nowadays.).
Far be it for me to bring up an authoritative source but check out SB 7104.
The official Assault rifle is the AUG. That would also cover the smg, carbine and lt mg.
The official Sniper rifle is the Walther MA2100.
and so now that I feel old I'm going to go watch my liver spots break out.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Styer AUG. Good rifle!
How should I handle basic training? I was thinking Firearms, outdoors, and Athletics @2 with a bump in the MOS. Say Stealth 3 for scouts. But thats like 50 points of skills I am tossing them
Perhaps I could charge 30 and get away with it? (They don;t get a choice of what they get)
right, they don't get to decide what they train in the army does that for them.
"Permission to marry? Son if the army wanted you to have a wife, they'd have issued you one."
how about this, boot camp gives x skills at y level for all. then they can specialize and pick up another x skills at y level (or improve existing skills).
thats how some very interesting rpgs i have around does it with character generation in general.
then you can sprinkle it all with some interest skills and similar.
Don't mess with the RSM. It's a definate no win situation. ![]()
(Wow, didn't know the US still used that rank.)
I've seen Walker, Texans don't use guns they use martial arts
I seem to remember Fields of Fire first introducing that combi gun (might have been the HK XM30 from Arsenal) and saying it was invented for the CAS military. It struck me as a bit over engineered for a battle rifle but hey.
IIRC my history correctly it was the Texas Rangers that enable Samuel Colt to get his company off the ground due the number of handguns the Rangers liked to carry.
Ie the Walker Colt.

Yes, the CAS army should be filled with physads who use roundhouse kicks.
Wasn't it statted in Rigger 1?
I'm quite sure it wasn't. It had some "corrupted datafiles", and maybe also some shadowtalk, speculating about its potential armor (short version: massive) and armament (short version: stupendous), but no concrete stats.
A hovertank would be about the fastest way around central TX if you are avoiding the roads. Heck even if you aren't avoiding the roads. Although I would love to see them try and charge you for road use on the toll roads. You don't actually have any axles and most charge by axles.
BTW I went with a Carbine for my characters (they wanted to be militia not Army.( they are Army IRL)) One of them actually chose NOT to learn how to use a weapon at all. (he's a mage tho)
Basically the gun is a .45 version of the TMP with a screw on barrel extension and an extra trigger group available the civvie version is only SA but its a very accurate SA.
BTW I think 5p is a bit light for a .45 but the damage rules are caliber independent.
The CAS military also uses fully submersible nuclear carriers.
Full-sized carriers that also act as submarines.
...
I worry about my people at times.

Now, here's a question, what about the CAS Militias?
One thing is clear. We need more big powerful revolvers.
Also, it should be possible to fan your revolver, a la Raygun's rule. By fanning you have a bit less accuracy but your ROF should go up, and not be trapped in SS land.
Because whenever any sort of movie or story is set in the south there are .357 magnums.
Hm... did the german Rigger book have stats for the Stonewall?
Vector thrust is the same thing as an LCAC, or closer to a Harrier?
sounds like a t-bird...
I want one! For commuting to work in!
I live in Winnipeg. Close enough.
I'd like to see someone try to steal THIS ride!
