Ok, now everyone's seen the usal ones - the cover for Cannon Companion is a cracker, as are the ones in the archtypes in Core Rules , but has there been an illustration of an attractive (CHA +4) of a female troll?

Preferably full-body?

-Meh, I sound like I'm looking for porn.

A player would like to get a better idea of her character and is somewhat irritated at my insistence that "Bigger, wider, rougher" is the way to go.

Help, please?

There was one on the cover of one of the novels. I can't remeber the name but it was set in England.

That was an ork.

Posted by: Doctor Funkenstein Dec 29 2003, 06:17 PM

Shadows of the Underworld, p. 94, "Anne Penchyk." Even though her stats look more like an ork than a troll (mostly because a troll's minimum Strength should be 5 at least in 3rd Edition), the picture is clearly that of a troll female. Pretty cool character, too. She does have a Charisma of 4, too.

Also if you just throw some horns on the chick on page 84 of Target: Smuggler's Haven, she'd look much like I would imagine a very attractive troll (with the Improved Looks surgical option and Good Looking & Knows It edge, and maybe Human Looking even without the horns) would look like, albeit one with a minimal Body (6) and Strength (5-6) scores.

If you don't have the books, I did a quick scan of both of them. I'll only keep 'em on my site for a few days, so snag 'em if you want 'em:

If you had quoted from Dirk Gentley or Last Chance to See, you could of called it obscure.

But a quote from the second book of one of the most popular science fiction series of all time is hardly a challenge.

Here's one for you: "Use the force Luke"

I know it's a toughie, but I think you could do it.

Getting depressed doesn't need a reason. Hanging yourself because you happen to be clinically depressed kills you just as dead. The fact that the world and life in general are complete shit compared to what people expect of it doesn't help.

The point of this thread was pretty much covered. Unless someone can come up with something new. Until then, we'll just keep on rambling until an admin gets bored of the stupid messages and closes it down. smile.gif

It's all good though - funnily enough, the player is active on many other forums and it's "Oh, you can't have a PRETTY troll, just easy to get along with!" from the guys and the female side is "Good luck! Throw up a linkage and/or pic if you're successful!"

Weird - a sharply-defined pro/against opinion adhering to sex.

Let me guess, all elves, even those with a Charisma of 2, are pretty, just b1tch3s and bastards?

What an odd thing to uncover.

Thanks for the images and linkages though - Now I know why I hate the thought of running in the Ogg - The pictures are pretty but the words paint a different story.

Of course. nyahnyah.gif

Thing is, a "pretty troll" would mostly be pretty to trolls. The majority of humans will not consider a female 1.5x as tall and 3x as massive as them, with calcium deposits in their skin, hornd on their head, and a jutting jaw with huge teeth, "pretty".

Anyway, "pretty" might be the wrong word, since it adheres mostly to commonly accepted views of beauty. The majority of humans will not consider the troll beautiful, and even trolls might only find her "attractive" -- depending on how much one's appreciation of beauty is linked to one's biology.

If it's mostly a cultural thing (like I think it is), it is unlikely that almost any female trolls would be considered "beautiful" by even a significant minority of metahumanity.

Are female orks just not represented because they are assumed to always be knocked up or something (wow, that's the most racist remark I've made in a long while)?

Posted by: northern lights Dec 30 2003, 02:27 PM

is there any artwork of nioku? the legendary troll archer. she was probably attractive.

earthdawn 1st edition p121 has a decent looking female tho only a small pic.

also crystal raiders of barsaive p 113 shows a fair piece by jeff laubenstien

another by nelson on p 81

again on p 42 though it looks to ba baxa's work and thus a bit rough

gods, that bloodlore scares me every time i look at it!

scope out the cover of the earthdawn survival guide

denizens II has a couple females in the color plates on p 80

macgougal has a decent silhouette on p 76

sorry, my scanner is packed away, so maybe someone else can get them for you.

SSG p.89 has a good female ork... and not the Prescott-style cartoonishly huge boobies with smiley-faces on them type, either, but one in a more realistic style who manages to look like a person without looking like a human with tusks tacked on as an afterthought.

Posted by: Arethusa Dec 30 2003, 06:32 PM

I've found an attractive male ork. Yet to find a woman, but, then again, aside from a couple of notable elves and humans, I find almost all of the illustrations remarkably ugly, and I tend to not take it as a mark against metahumanity. It's more a point against the Shadowrun illustrators.

Besides, you'd have to live through the Night of Rage first. nyahnyah.gif

I always find it funny that in Shadowrun, usually it's only humans are accused of racism, usually by people that exhibit far more racist tendancies than the person they are incriminating.

Oh, out of a sick desire to stir the pot a little more, the Troll (CHA 5) character has the "Lecherous" fault.

(Expression of terror on a naked street-sam) "She's gonna EAT ME!?!"

(Thank the gods she has a high-ish will.)

*But this all begs to be tied into the Prono-the-dwarf catagory of kink.

Seriously, can you not think of a situation, apart from a really tired joke, where a Dwarf, a Satyr and a Minotaur walk into a bar and ask the bartender...

"Ok, we're lookin' fer a guy called "Long-Schlong Diva. Ok, we think it's a guy, probabily wearing some discrete makeup..."
He trails off in the face of the bartender's expression.
"Shit, it doesn't matter where in hell we go, it's always the same." Disgusted, he turns to leave, then noticing that his Satyr is now being plied with drinks, and that the minotaur is indicating, with quite simple gestures, what she wants from a large man who she is holding by the scruff of his neck.
"Hey! Bessy, put the guy down, I think his wife would like to have him back intact. Look, I'll take care of you later, ok?"
"You'd damn-well better, my hooves are killing me! Opps, sorry."
The satyr trots on up, quite happily.
"No offence! Wheeee, I think those guys like me!?"
"I think they liked you topless more - C'mon, we're NEVER going to build a rep as Shadowrunners like this."
"Wanna bet?"
"As BELIEVEABLE 'runners. Shhesh, this is like a bad joke..."a Dwarf, a Satyr and a Minotaur walk into a bar," I mean, it doesn't help!"

I ended up having enough of a feel for the character that I managed to come up with some decent shots of her myself...

I should really scan in her 'driver's license'

let me know if the urls are flakey (I can't do anything if they are, but it'll give you something to gripe about wink.gif)

ya got a bandwidth limit on those, or are they just flaky..? biggrin.gif

The urls are flaky. They include the "session" and log-in info and security stuff, the same kind of string you see in the address line when you log into an email account. I'm sure the pictures have an address other than that, but I'll be damned if I know how to dig it out.

Ehh, there seems to be more to it than that. Even the roots (http://f4.grp.yahoofs.com/ and http://f5.grp.yahoofs.com/) are "Not Found". Someone who knows how yahoo knows can probably help you out.

It looks as though its on a Yahoo Group. If so what is the group?

it doesn't matter. it's a private group for our run.

Which explains why nobody else can link to it.

Now there's an idea I hadn't thought of. Using a yahoo group (or other such free group/forum service) as a discussion forum/on-line meeting place for your gaming group.

Those links worked when I checked them this morning... was shortly after they were posted, I think. That garbage string in the URL is probably a time-sensitive session ID, and I got in before it expired. I poked through my cache to see if my browser had stored copies, but couldn't find them...

We have for our on-line team, and it's beyond crappy. (Yahoo-don'tusethis)

Basically, everytime you actually get something up there, yahoo's down or it takes forever (15 minutes per PAGE) to load up. Sure, if you've all got t1 connection, go for it. But it'd be easier hosting one yourself.

it's fine as an interim measure (which is as it was intended, remember?) and so long as you don't do anything stupid - like trying to use their chat function it's okay. somewhere where you can put up the eyecandy, links we all need and all the rest of the crap we tend to put there.

As for the trolls - well, i'd use my webcomic space for them, but well..... I absolutely suck at that sort of thing, unless it's generically uploading my comic.

as for attractive trolls, the best I have online is http://dragonslife.keenspace.com/d/20030809.html, funnily enough.

We've been using Yahoo the last couple of years, and it's been working well. There's been some problems the last couple of months, but other than that it's a great way to keep all the players in touch. You get free storagespace for files and pictures. smile.gif

It made me make a try too, http://membres.lycos.fr/nmath/Troll0.gif (333Ko). I was never really good at drawing girls, by luck there were one or two old FHM lying near (don't ask biggrin.gif ) to help me a bit. The symetry of dermal deposits on the neck and the forehead on otherwise apparent bones does help a little. She may not be as muscular as she should, and of course it does not show she'd be above two meters tall and closer to three.
