Dumpshock Forums _ Shadowrun _ Modded Shadowrun Guns
Posted by: Degausser Mar 16 2009, 03:45 AM
So, I had an idea to have some people in the shadowrunning community selling specially modded guns. Often, Shadowrunners need stuff that's not on the market, so having SOTA guns that have special mods are great. Post any you've made/want to make along with the asking price, who makes it, and how to contact him. If you have the Arsenal book, use that.
Example:
The Kicker
Base Gun: Ruger Thunderbolt (BF, 5P, AP-1, 12 Rnds, RC 2)
Factory Add-ons: Internal Smartlink, Reduced Recoil 2 (counted)
Customization: Extended clip (15 rnds now), Firing Mode Alteration (SA), Electronic Firing (RC 1), Chameleon Coating
Asking price:
5000
Buy from: John Du. Du is a gunslinging adept and retired Shadowrunner of some renown. After a major run, he retired and persued his passion for building and modding firearms. While he will mod almost any firearm with any mod someone wants (he has his own gun facility,) his best seller is what he has dubbed "The Kicker." These Ruger Thunderbolts have no barrel markings (as he forges his own barrels) and are upgraded to be better concealed, suffer less recoil, and hold more ammo. Best of all, he has removed the distinctive sound these guns make, and modified their appearance to draw slightly less attention.

I've never felt the urge to customize a SR gun, and I don't think anyone I've played with has either. We pretty exclusively used P4s and alphas, and just replaced them when needed. We had one or two crazies who carried warhawks.

Those look like they're from 3E, and it would appear that this thread is for 4E.
As for my 2
, I present the Paladin:
Base Gun: Ares Crusader (5P; AP 0; SA/BF/FA; RC 3; 40x2©)
Factory Add-ons: Extended Clip and Gas-Vent 2.
Customization: Upgrade to Gas-Vent 3 (done at factory instead of G-V2), Electronic Firing, Additional Clip, Firing Mode Selection (Full Auto), Laser Sight.
Asking price: 3,200
Buy from: Jacob Fulke, a German-descended gun-nut that runs a small factory in an abandonded warehouse located in one of the worst Z-zones of Seattle. His greatest success story is how his factory-defense systems (produced by himself) have made his warehouse the safest place in Z-z Alpha. The Paladin is his pride and joy, providing the quality of an assault rifle or LMG with the efficient design of a machine pistol.
Designed to be fired with APDS/Tracer rounds, he manufactures clips of those as well, using his signature silver tracers to compliment the viridian laser built into the weapon's barrel. (cost per clip: 585
)
EDIT: Added weapon stats...

You mean, something along the lines of:
Base Weapon: Ares Desert Strike (8P -3AP, 14rnd)
Factory Add-Ons: Smartlink(Top Mount), Rigid Stock (1 RC)(Standard), Bipod, Gas Vent 3
Mods: Extended Clip 1 (18 Rnds), Personalized Grip, Firing Selection (FA)
(Total RC 5 (7 w/Bipod))
Price to build: 10200
Price to buy (ready made, on the black market)15300
Not a Barrett, and it lacks the ammo of an HMG, but I thought I did pretty well. I kinda cheated, as it has far more accessories than a normal weapon should be able to carry, but I ran under the assumption that Factory Add-ons don't count against the total number of mods, and besides, each AREA still only has one accesory. One top (smart), 1 Stock, 1 Under (Bipod) 1 Barrel (Gas Vent), One Grip (Personalized), 1 clip (extended) and 1 internal (Firing Selection) Plus, everything is under 12 availability, so you can buy this thing at Char creation.

>>>Tired of running around in that GMC Bulldog that just ain't cutting it for hauling your Troll with a Vulcan Cannon? Well, friend of mine down in Free Cali makes these, calls them the 'Shadowrunner Special.' Gets a standard city bus, (usually second hand for that authentic 'grungy' feeling) and overhauls everything in it. He does a complete rework of the engine, adds some concealed armor, and modifies it for Gridlink Override and rigging. He takes out half the back seats and installs a flip-up hatch on the rear end, to accomidate easy loading, as well as that drone rack. Also has a few gun ports to shoot out of if you ever run into trouble. He does custom orders if you need them, such as smuggling compartments or suspention modification. Lastly, he does a one-way tint of the windows so no one can see in (duh). If you ever need a cost-effective way to haul a tonne of gear, this is the rig to buy. Why not use Turbocharged instead of Engine Mod (Acceleration)? Turbocharged gives you a greater yield 99% of the time (and it's cheaper, and less slots I think).

Cascade Bulldog
Modified by the same engineering team that brought you the Skraacha, the Bulldog is the go anywhere vehicle of choice in the wilds of the NAN. Many are licensed as private couriers or as tour vehicles for city folks that want to get back to nature without having their arms torn off by a Piasma.
Active camouflage and heavy armour plating will keep you safe from the worst the wilderness has to offer you and drone point defence will ensure your passengers or cargo get safely to their destination. The point defence system is a patented modification of the DroneRack system. Rather than launch facilities a number of tracks are recessed into the hull's armour plate. These are capable of supporting up to three rail drones.
Available in a number of configurations that are indistinguishable from each other including the Ghost configuration below which is extremely popular in the Shadows of Denver.
This base package is sold without any upgraded software. Customers usually erase it anyway.

>>>Yeah, some runners have asked about smuggling vehicles better than the Shadowrun Special (the city bus) and I remembered an old contact of mine out of Denver, named Two-Tone Tony. He used to be a smuggler himself, but when Ghostwalker showed up, he got spooked and left the biz . . . can't say I blame him though. Anywho, he made a lot of mechanic contacts during his smuggling days, and started up a chop-shop with them. Now he makes smuggling cars that look like those stupid Street racing hot rods all the Corp Brat kids use. His smuggling compartments are top-Notch, and the car has enough horsepower to outrun most anything on the road. Plus it's got EM shielding, a way to get rid of any unwanted RFID tags, and a morphing paint job so it's hard to ID your car. Crizh, you needn't purchase the Drum Clip or Extra Clip for those AKs. They get access to a 250 round bin as part of being mounted on a Vehicle.

A couple I built for myself, the first to address the lack of an LMG made specifically for drones, the second for more versatility with grenades. I cheated in three ways: I paid base cost (not aftermarket) for the internal smartlink on the LMG (since it's part of the design), I changed the grenade launcher to cylinder loading, and I didn't pay for electronic firing or trigger removal for the grenade launcher (again, part of the design). I did use slots for design features, mostly to make it more palatable to GM's. Just pretend they have fewer available slots because of their compact nature, or just give them full available slots as unmodified weapons.
Drone LMG (Based on Ares MP-LMG):
Comes with integral gas vent 2, trigger removal, electronic
firing, a top-mounted smartgun system, and an underbarrel grenade
launcher with airburst link. The grenade launcher feeds one at a
time from a large magazine, so grenade type can be selected on a
case-by-case basis. Designed for drones, so electronic firing and
trigger removal are standard and do not cost extra.

"Skipper" Underbarrel Grenade Launcher (Based on Ares Antioch-2):
The Skipper, due to its unique cylinder design and ammo-skip system,
allows Shadowrunners with smartlinks to avoid unnecessary fumbling
in order to find the right grenade for a given situation. Comes with
an integral smartlink and optional airburst link (+500). The Skipper
is specifically designed as an underbarrel smartweapon; treat it as
having the electronic firing and trigger removal mods. It doesn't
have a handle, so you'd have to retrofit it if you wanted to use it
alone.

I don't ever remember seeing a Gas Vent 5 in any of the books, and you used a house rule, which is kind of a no-no on the forums. But it does look like a nice gun to attach to a turret or your LMG.
Anyaway, according to the books, drones do not suffer from recoil, so you don't need that anyway (although I think that is a stupid rule, it is the RAW)

First, the gas vent 5 was a typo. Fixed.
Second, there's an optional rule which instead gives drones their Body in RC (to cut down on abuse). The gas vent is there for use of that rule. See "Vehicle Weapons and Recoil", Arsenal 105.

Mods: Internal Smartlink, Drum Ammo (see below), 50 rnds
Cost to Make: N/A
Cost to buy (Black Market)

SPECIAL: Use Light Pistol Ranges
This gun is based on the unique Nitama NeMax frame. Because the ammo is not loaded in the grip, but ahead of the trigger, the house ruling allows this pistol (and this pistol only) to have a drum ammunition mod.)
>>>I find this gun to be utterly rediculus, but other runners have found a use for it. A Japanese friend of mine is a gun nut and works for Nitama. Whenever they throw out misshapen or defective frames for their super-security pistol (The NeMax, that gun with safe target and biometric security), he grabs them from the discard bin and takes them home. He repairs the frame, then builds a gun into it. It's just the fame so it doesn't include the targeting or biometric security systems, but he does make sure to make the gun smart. Then he (get this) replaces the magazine feed with a drum from a low-end SMG. Thing has a poor weight balance, but it is a heavy pistol that holds 50 rounds, if that's what you are looking for. <<<

>>>Yeah, I have one. Balance on the thing is piss-poor, so don't try to do target shooting with it. But it is fairly reliable. At least, I've never had a breakdown. And don't worry about the fact that they guy uses defective frames . . . he repairs them up real nice. Its amazing what the corps just throw away.<<<

>>>Guy I run with made this for a run recently, and it worked out so well that he asked me to post it here, as he is willing to make more for runners in need. Basically we needed to snipe a guy, and we weren't about to walk around in broad daylight with a hunting rifle strapped to our backs. Our ork is a pretty big, so he bought a long coat and figured he could get away with stashing an SMG under it. So, he buys a 227-X, extends the barrel for better range, wraps the thing in a shroud to prevent detection, then goes crazy and adds an electronic fire system, which both reduces recoil and noise. A detachable scope on top is for sniping. If you want better scopes, he is willing to find them . . . for a fee. Hit went bad (bad intel), so our ork starts using this in the resulting firefight, and it holds up surprisingly well. Call me if interested.<<<

>>>Huh, a sniping SMG? I have to admit, it sounds crazy, but it also just might work. Why did you choose the base gun as a 227-X, they aren't exactly known for good Recoil Comp.<<<
-Posted by ElSamurai, 12 Karma, 91.7% positive
>>>I don't know exactly, but our Ork knows his stuff, so I doubt the choice was random. I know he was considering using the Praetor, but decided against it. I think the big deciding factor was time. The 227-X comes with a built in sound suppressor AND smartlink, whereas the praetor has none of these. I guess he figured it was faster to install electronic firing than a smartlink and internal suppressor. Plus, as a sniping SMG, you should only be firing one bullet anyway.<<<

>>>Yeah, okay, that makes sense. I think our team sniper might like one. I owe him a few favors, and a new gun might just fit the bill. Let me scrounge up some cash and I'll give you a note.<<<

>>>Another invention of Silky Jones's enigmatic friend, this gun has been dubbed the 'assasin's friend.' Y'know how in all the trid shows, when firing a silenced gun, you hear that 'mouse fart' noise? Y'know how REAL silenced guns are much louder? Well, this gun ACTUALLY makes that noise. Fitted with an internal silencer, and an electronic firing suite, when this gun is stuffed with low-velocity ammo it is VERY quiet. It is also quite small for a heavy pistol, and very easy to conceal, the maker even includes a concealable holster with every order. The only downside of this puppy is it's low ammo count and the fact that MAD scanners can still pick it up. I suggest a smuggling case to get it through the front doors and then get into the bathroom and strap it on.<<<

Both inspired by the "well, maybe..." section on odd underbarrel weapons in Arsenal. I think that they're both inferior to published weapons of comparable cost, but let me know what you think. I wasn't certain on when you doubled the cost for an internal smartlink, so I ruled that you paid the weapon's base, pre-mod cost, rather than having modifications like a personal grip alter the price of adding a smartlink.

Cavalier "Beauregard Bicentennial"
Base Gun: Cavalier Deputy
Additional Modifications: Custom Look, Personal Grip, Internal Smartlink, Underbarrel Weapon (Special, Smartlink)
Stats: (Main Barrel) 5p/-1, SA, RC 1, 7 (cy) (Second Barrel) 9p(f)/+2, SS, RC -, 1 (ml)
Cost to Purchase:

1,200 [Assuming that the underbarrel weapon costs

225 before smartlink)
Special: The underbarrel weapon uses shotgun rules and must be fired as a medium or wide spread, as though it were a shotgun with a reduced barrel (See Aresnal 150). It uses light pistol ranges.
This gun, first released in 2065, is a homage to the collector-popular LeMat revolver of the 19th century; a secondary underslung barrel is loaded with shot. While the secondary firing mode can only be fired once before reloading, the 'surprise value' often makes up for this. The gun's smartlink permits it to fluidly switch between firing modes. As it was produced as primarily a collector's piece, it is generally made to order with personalized grips and visual embellishments.
>>>I used one of these back when I was legitimate; it was a gift from the company we were working for. It was workable, but I never had cause to use the second barrel - an off-the-shelf Deputy would likely have been just as useful. <<<
- Bulletproof
>>>Coming back to this, my 'net security advisor' also wanted me to add that, due to the collector's edition nature of the weapon, it is exceedingly easy to trace - the makers want to be able to keep marketting to known buyers, so its wireless-enabled by default and can relay data about other firearms registered to you, to better target their sales pitch - it's easy enough to disable, but you have to remember to do so.<<<

Special: The underbarrel weapon may only fire narrow bursts, and takes a Complex Action to do so.
>>>This one's an odd street modification to the base "Bicentennial." The maker is a gun hobbyist and purveyor out here in Seattle from my old neighborhood. She took my Beauregard after I'd ditched it for the Warhawk, and turned it into this - the underbarrel's been replaced with a stacked-round electronic firing system, as in the Yamaha Fubuki, loaded with Stick-and-Shock ammo. She's since produced others to order, and I must admit that the knockout potential of the burst is pretty impressive.<<<

So they take them back to their hideout and start using all the parts to mod the crap out of the guns. Then they either use these guns in their gang war, or sell them to their friends. These guns featured an advanced safety that knocked any unregistered user on their keister, so rival gangs couldn't steal these guns or pick them off of dead bodies.

Gyro stabilization is not optional at all, combined with it's rigid stock and shock pad, it nets a 6 die penalty to recoil. And it also costs 450 nuyen each time you let it off the chain, so that is not an option to be considered lightly. However, even Dragons have something to fear from the Hammer of Thor.

I think that was the only slip from RAW. However there is the case for it having 3 body being backpack sized.

Crap. The tiny little munchkin in my head survived the heart attack and just founded a polytheistic religion around you guys. You have any idea how hard it is to take communion using .50 BMG rounds?
Posted by: Dumori Apr 14 2009, 02:27 AM
We can go fearther I was thinking of swapping out the bipod and adding the auto-assault from above underbarrel with an extended barrel not reduced to have a automated point defense on the back pack to. Also with millspec armor you could carry a second automated weapon over your other shoulder LMG minigun with 10round GL underbarrel?. I think any more twinking may just kill my tiny little munchkin in my head.

>>>No camo. Not concealable. Pretty much nothing that we'd usually want. But Jesus effing Christ is this a scary weapon to be seeing the wrong end of. Someone (and by "someone" I mean "a guy who I can get you in contact with for a few nuyen more") saw Ares' foray into the HVAR market, and decided it'd be a fun thing to fuse with an Alpha. Well, it's fun, all right: you'll look like a freaking trid hero, what with your gun that offers about as much recoil as a three-round burst on an AK-97 while spitting
up to 16 rounds a second. In all seriousness, though, this thing gets a damn good accuracy to power ratio, and it's not like the Alpha isn't all over the Shadows anyway. Just bring lots of ammo.<<<

>>>One, you're not exactly elven yourself, SDSN. Two, I've seen a human fire it with barely a pop; that's what I'm basing this on. If you've got foot anchors, are pretty strong, or both, you're gonna feel like you're shooting a pistol. A really, really heavy pistol.<<<

>>>I actually have one of these things. Thud's exaggerating about the RoF; you're not getting there unless you've got some SERIOUS WR stuff going on. But that said? Stick a bunch of stick-n-shock rounds in there and bring down a Dragon-cursed elephant if you want.<<<

Here is the pistol of choice for all aspiring Grammaton Clerics:

FN 5-7C 600
- barrel mount: gas vent 3 400
- underbarrel mount: laser sight 100
- extended clip (25%) 500
- level 2 custom look 1000
- internal smartgun system 600
- Firing selection change (FA) 300
- melee hardening 300
- personalised grip 100
- gecko grip 100
Total cost: 4k
The custom look was originally intended for staredowns (+2 mod per weapon when drawn (+4 total) + elven charisma would be impressive I thought, but I ran out of points). Ideally I'd make it undetectable to MADs but I can't do that without using additional restrictive gear. Recoil compensation on this weapon alone is 5 before factoring in gyromounts and strength.
I'm not entirely sure on the legality of having two grip mods - I'm thinking most GMs wouldn't have an issue with the above.

final stats
hold-out pistol damage 6P | AP +5f | mode SA/FA | ammo 4c | availability 12F | price 3030

Actually according to Arsenal errata, that would be 8P +5AP

Actually it's 6P because the non-flechette hold-out damage is 4P. Though the weapon has a +2 AP and the ammo has +5, so in the spirit of pointlessness I took the +5 AP.
EDIT: The arsenal errata does indeed say that the pistol does 8P(f). That makes no sense to me as the high damage makes this pistol semi-useful, something that completely undermines my intent.
