Dumpshock Forums _ Shadowrun _ A Troll Infiltrator
Posted by: Sinistra Feb 13 2013, 06:27 PM
Yes, that title is correct, I am working on making a troll who is good at being sneaky, and all things that come with subtle actions. So being able to get in and out of places is a must have.
The looks I have access to are Arsenal, Augmentation, Running Wild, Runners Companion, Unwired, Shadowrun 20th Anniversary, and Street Magic, no others.
So far for 400 BP
[ Spoiler ]
Metatype: Troll - 40BP
Positive Qualities: (20BP)
Bio-compatibility (Cyberware) - 10BP
Catlike - 10BP
Negative Qualities: (-35 BP)
Addiction (Mild) (Betel) - -5
Biosystem Overstress - -10
Lost Loved One (Sister) - -5
Mania/Phobia (Common, Mild) (Heights) - -10
Sensitive Neural Structure - -5
Attributes (200+20BP)
BOD: 7
AGI: 4
REA: 5
STR: 5
CHA: 2
INT: 4
LOG: 4
WIL: 5
EDG: 3
Notes: I refuse to have attributes at 1, I will be fine with min if over 1, example is the Str.
Active Skills: (126 BP)
Skill Groups (90/126 BP) -
Athletics 2 (20 BP)
Close Combat 2 (20 BP)
Firearms 2 (20 BP)
Stealth 3 (30 BP)
Loose Skills: (36/126 BP)
Forgery 2 (8 BP)
Hardware 2 (8 BP)
Locksmith 3 (12 BP)
Perception 2 (8 BP)
Knowledge Skills: Free Skill Point Remaining 24
WIP (I can handle this later on my own)
Contacts: (Not costing BP, get a certain amount free.)
Gear/Nuyen: (29BP=145K Nuyen)
I still need to purchase relevant gear
Cyberware:
Cybereyes Rating 3 Alphawear 14K
-Smartlink
-Vision Enhancement 2
-Low-Light Vision
-Thermographic Vision
Wired Reflexes Rating 2 Alphawear 64K
Bioware:
Reflex Recorder (Skill Group) (Stealth) 25K
Notes: My GM is letting me take the Biosystem overstress with only 1 biowear, since I will have a portion of Karma and Nuyen given after he is finished in BP (He is really regretting making us make our characters in BP now but the game has been running for months at this point.). I do not know exact level of Nuyen and Karma given after though I know the Karma is close to 100, and the Nuyen probably over 100K (If my current Character, the GM wants us to have more than 1). So some things may look incomplete or low, this is sort of within my intention. The character should be mostly made as though he was a starting 400BP character. So I plan to pick up most of the essentials in guns and other equipment, I just do not have a list I want to put up here yet.
In Conclusion: I am basically looking for help tweaking and optimizing the character since I can get a little all over the place when making characters. And no, switch meta-type is not up for debate.

What about a Fomori ?
How Do You feel about a Troll(Fomori) Traceur ?
You'd need to Change the Fear of Heights and raise his STR
With a Dance on the Rooftops

I could probably do Fomori, and yes the Fear can easily be switched to some other common fear, or even another quality entirely.

I'm kinda surprised you didn't pick up any AGI boosting bio/cyberware. Muscle Toner, IIRC, is very cheap bioware that'll boost the crap out of your AG and make you super sneaky.
I would also suggest dropping some BP from money and adding it back into the hardware skill - you don't need to buy all them fancy gadgets to get by security systems if you can just take the system apart.
Your stealth group at 3 also seems like a waste since that's the focus of the character.. either the group at 4 or splitting them into individual skills and going even higher (Infiltration 6 (Urban +2) comes to mind).
As such, Catlike is a big DISadvantage for you - you're paying 10BP to get +1 to two different skills. (That costs 8 BP to do on its own..) Since you're nowhere near the maximums allowed by high skills I would, if nothing else, drop Catlike to increase the skills instead. (You can always pick up Catlike later with karma... the cost stays the same. Whereas for the skills, the karma cost skyrockets.)
Drop the Athletics Skills Group for Synthacardium r3. (20BP for skillgroup vs 6BP for the nuyen to buy the Synthacardium)
...actually I've got some time right now, I'll sit down with my books and see what I can't figure out for ya!

I had not picked up the Toner yet, since I was going to be given some after character creation Karma and Nuyen, and I know be enough to buy at least that.

Actually, no, the costs do
not stay the same. If you pick up Catlike with Karma it will cost you 20 Karma, not 10 BP.
And some GM's do not allow the purchase of Positive Qualities once play begins (some do).

The math may not quite add up, since this was a quick thing and I did all my work in the forum post and a calculator, but it should be close enough.

I highly suggest you get ruthenium polymer coating on whatever armor you wear - then not only do you have 15 dice for stealth, anyone else who doesn't have awesome hearing or Super Scent gets -4.
An "Electrician's Kit" will also be super handy since this build uses hardware to take kits apart instead of using the sequencers and whatnot, and +2 is good times.
...then just remember a phone, a car, and a lifestyle. And rope.

...Er... right.. 20Karma that will always be 20 karma, as opposed to raising the skill directly which could anywhere from 8 to 30 karma
for an individual skill. I mean, it's worth taking instead of that Rank 6 skill, but otherwise...

When do YOU pay 30 Karma for a Skill? Even at Rank 6, that is only 12 points.

When your brain implodes with bad logic, that's when!
*I meant skill group, but didn't write that, and then upon reading my own words became convinced it was truth. Despite, you know,
everything to the contrary including personal experience and... the book I have open... common sense...
Rather than edit the original post, I'll leave that there so everyone can
see my shame and gawk, and do the edit here:

"...Er... right.. 20Karma, as opposed to raising the skill

is 30 karma for a skill
group going from 5 to 6.
Otherwise..."
Because that's painful to read:
In character creation, Catlike, Athletic, and other such PQs that grant +1 to the skill group are not worth the 10BP. Their niche comes when everything else in the group is at rank 5 or 6, and you're looking for either a cheaper, or any, increase respectively. I have never even heard of a DM not allowing characters to get PQs after character creation - if that is your ruleset then mileage may vary.

Heh... Got it... Yes, for the group it would be crazy expensive at 30 Karma.

As for buying PQ's after chargen, it is an option that is suported, but not everyone allows, from what I have heard (we allow it).

Take a fear of ducks that way when you see one and scream "DUCK!!!" your crew drops to the floor while you run off (or start firing wildly).
