srsly, the ones that flew backwards in Skyrim looked cooler than that

That one is flying backwards. Look at the wingstroke in the slowmo. It's clearly back-winging (the type of wingmovement used to slow down for a landing).

Looks almost like a model honestly, especially given the rigidity of the wings and how they don't flex at their midpoints at all. No organic wing does that.
