Dumpshock Forums _ Community Projects _ Flash SR4 Dice Roller

File: http://baronken.com/shadowrun/SR4Dice.swf Requires Flash Player 8.

This is my first foray into Flash programming so be gentle on the critiques please. newbie.gif This is gonna get lengthy, so I apologize now.

Disclaimer: I'm such a noob at making anything with trademarked/copyrighted material I have no idea where to start disclaiming! Basically, I got all graphics, backgrounds, logos, disclaimers, etc. from the web or my Shadowrun PDF. If I step on anyone's toes or fail to give due credit, go ahead and berate me, I'll learn in time. wink.gif

This isn't even a version 1, this is barely getting into what I want the final Flash program to be. I'm posting it here for early critiques/ideas/modifications, etc. so feel free to chime in.
I've only had a couple weeks of trying to learn how to make a Flash animation/program, so I'm sure a truckload of things could have been done more efficiently. I haven't taken the time to figure out how to make my own components yet, but instead am using the standard buttons, checkboxes, etc. so it looks kind of generic. I'm still working on the overall layout as I'm not really good at layout/graphic design (which is why I used other peoples works for that part).

Ok, so far some of the things I have working are the following (to do list follows):

I plan to add:Currently when Edge, Declare Before roll is selected, it applies the Rule of 5+ (hehe, yea, I got my operator wrong, will fix soon). Also, I don't have it set up for doing other varieties of Edge (declare after roll, reroll non-hits) except for try a Long Shot.

Later I'll make a webpage so that the Flash program fills it properly, etc. but for now it'll do.

I'll update this page when I can.

Thanks for any feedback.

Is it meant to work with various browsers? I am loading the page on Mozilla Firefox and I only see the background, the text areas and the scrolling tabs but absolutely no text!!!

It could be my Flash version...I will have another look and comment further ...

I know nothing of Firefox, but I suspect if it can use a Flash Player 8 plugin it should work.
I thought I embedded the fonts for the one I uploaded, but if not, I'm sure I have for the current version I'm working on (will upload soon).

Thanks for checking it out. smile.gif

Wonderful! To be honest, I'd be more includined to use this without all the background images but that might be just me. Also, if you set up a web page and embed the .swf in it, then you won't that could fix some of the problems that netlich had.

Otherwise, great job. I love to see people using Flash for more than just popups and silly banner adds.

Very slick, I like how it calls out glitches and critical glitches. Keep us posted as you progress with functionality.
