With no agenda (except maybe a picture of her wearing her belly button ring love.gif ) I thought I would start this up. Join in if you have questions for her (keep it clean) and maybe we can get her participation on this too!

Was NetCat a real runner you played as in a SR game, or was she created FOR the fluff?

Posted by: Minchandre Apr 26 2010, 07:37 PM

Brief explanation for a confused newbie?

Posted by: BishopMcQ Apr 26 2010, 08:41 PM

I can say that NetCat was originally created before Jennifer started writing with us. (NetCat was one of the original Jackpointers for SR4.) Some of the events that happened with NetCat came from discussions that Jennifer had with Phaedra, Bobby, myself, and others. We all talk behind the scenes with each other about the Jackpointers lives beyond the articles. Sometimes this comes out in short fiction, other times it's the shadowtalk that slowly builds up.

A phenomenon known as Weiland's Law in the German usenet: The appearance of a female poster automatically attracts the attention of large parts of the group biggrin.gif

Just want to comment, when I spoke with her at Gencon last year (and got her to autograph my sr4a) I mentioned dumpshock. She did not sound like she hardly ever got on the forums here. Not saying its futile... maybe I am wrong. Without Goading from her associates, will she notice this post?

Posted by: Delarn Apr 27 2010, 09:15 PM

If we send her a PM about it... maybe ?

Posted by: BishopMcQ Apr 27 2010, 10:19 PM

I have mentioned this to her.

Posted by: LurkerOutThere Apr 27 2010, 10:26 PM

Cute yet creepy, about right for this place.

Posted by: Delarn Apr 28 2010, 01:32 PM

While I'm all for a fan club for the writers, please, leave piercings out of it. It was funny, and she brought it up, but it's innapropriate for Dumpshock, as it isn't related to Shadowrun besides being literally connected to one of the writers.

Play nice, don't forget to pet the drop bears. smile.gif

Heh... I visit DS on a daily basis. smile.gif Along with many of the other SR writers. wink.gif

Which is why this here is basically the official shadowrun board . .
Because most of the people who are or were officially affiliated with SHADOWRUN visit.
Like Mrs. Harding here, who can traumatize even Ancient History it seems ^^
I still have not managed to get him to tell me about that one though *snickers*

Horizon wink.gif, Aztechnology, Telestrian, and I co-wrote a section on corporate life with Adam Large (yeah for corporate dating!!!).

Oh, sure. It's amusing. Personally, I'd join up with a Bobby Derie/Ancient History fan club in a heartbeat... (dunno if Bobby would do the reverse, but then again, we've had far to many conversations that ended with him running away screaming wink.gif )

I think all of the authors I know appreciate it when their work is admired, and since I know that all of the core freelancers (aka "old timers") write (or wrote) because they themselves are SR fans, we all like this stuff.

I liked lagos so much, I dropped the PC's there after a botched run (Literallly, the troll threw em out of the plane--with a parachute b/c I'm nice).

Thanks to some of the info (Jaukefer (Sp?) swarms anyone?), I am left with the distinct impression they don't want to go back. smile.gif

Hey, I'm a Gamer Mom. Tonight's dinner conversation consisted of my 8 year old and 5 year old having a very serious discussion on the differences of Eastern and Western dragons (wings vs no wings). Of course, then it devolved into the long standing question of if Dragons were related to birds. And if Western Dragons are related to birds, if that means Eastern Dragons are... and where the Sea Dragon stands in all this.

Posted by: Prime Mover May 5 2010, 03:45 AM

Well the stalker aspect aside, I definitely am a fan of your work Jen. I recently went back and re-read through free fiction on SR4 site, never realized you wrote Old Bones till went back over them. I'm liking the DotA series and I like the tone and content of your SR writing. Too many SR authors fall into the encyclopedic style of writing while technically well done it can come off dry and lacking. I gotta say I happily lump you in with 2 or 3 others that DO NOT fall into that category. Looking forward to your future stuff.

LOL! If I may give my 2 nuyen.gif on the matter. Dragons seem related to the dinossaurs and the creatures that lived during their age (perhaps they evolved from them?)

For the last 30-40 years there's been discussion if birds are an evolution of dinossaurs and last studies seem to prove that when a fossil was discovered with evidence of having (birds are the descendants of the Theropoda suborder: T-Rex, the various raptors, basically every predator).

Now, Feathered Serpents do have feathers (duh) and their "arms" are their wings, while Eastern Dragons have no wings (or feathers) and Western Dragons have six limbs (their paws and wings).

And Western Dragons are "weird" exactly because of the six limbs, there are no mammals, birds, reptiles with this number of limbs (and if there are they are not even 1% of the species). Perhaps there were two species (Eastern Dragons and Feathered Serpents) when some event similar to SURGE happened among the Eastern Dragon population giving them wings? And this event only happened where would be the Europian continent during the time. Anyway, just food for thought. If there is one thing I really like about Shadowrun is the scientific approach to mythical creatures.

Now, to get back on topic: I really liked LA and the Advanced Lifestyles. LA would never be the kind of place where I would run, but I really like that there is at least ONE town where you are expected to go totally pink-mowhak.

Thanks! The Advanced Lifestyle rules were the first "crunch" section I wrote (co-written with Adam Large). I have to admit that I had far too much fun writing them. Adam and I made each other laugh non-stop as we bounced Qualities back and forth. That and the examples of life style levels... (which, for the record, Peter Taylor edited down our more outrageous examples....) wink.gif

Living with parents is by far my favorite. I can just imagine a Troll mom asking "Sweetie, will your friends stay for dinner?" while the group is planning an infiltration.

Jen and Bobby have always been my favorite writers, so I am in on this for sure, especially since she is a Gamer Mom! I loved the convo with the kids about Dragons, my daughter is very similar in that regard. Also the advanced lifestyles are the only way to go, I have a rigger who is a 2nd generation runner, with an MIA dad who lives with mom to help support her. Great stuff!
