Dumpshock Forums _ Community Projects _ SR4 HTML Quick Reference

Posted by: chinagreenelvis Jul 12 2010, 03:15 PM

http://shadowrun.chinagreenelvis.com is now an HTML quick reference site for SR4.

I've been working on this mostly to aid my own playing (because the hardcopy sourcebooks and PDFs can be a bit cumbersome to navigate), but I thought I'd share it. It's a work in progress; at the moment it is far from complete. I'll be making updates periodically. When I feel I have something more or less finished, I'll zip the whole thing up into something downloadable for people who play where there isn't a wireless Matrix-- er, Internet connection available.

Almost all of the information is copied directly from the sourcebooks, so if Catalyst takes issue with copyright and bothers to contact me about it, I'll willingly take it down. However, I'd like to point out that the site is not meant to (nor could it) be a substitute for the sourcebooks; its merely a resource for players who already own or have access to them.

The main page is the Javascript diceroller that I use when playing. I play on a 1280x800 laptop, so I open this in a web browser on one half of the screen, and my http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=30762 on the other half. Until HeroLab releases their Shadowrun setup, I find this to be a pretty decent alternative.

This is great! I'll definitely be putting this to use.

Good stuff.

The only thing they can voice complaint about so far is the reference section, as that is setting material. The rest is rules material which cannot be copyrighted.

Also you forgot to include Bliss in the table for the drugs.

Interesting, as I would assume it's the other way around. Anywho, I doubt very much anyone will come knocking. Probably won't have to worry about it too much.

And actually, I've been meaning to figure out the info on Bliss. It's not included in the table provided by the SR420 Corebook, and the table seems to be entirely missing from the original SR4 Corebook.

Is that true, they can not copyright rules material?

They absolutely can. Heck, you can copyright rules systems that describe how things work in the real world, it's just that nothing prevents other people from figuring it out the hard way.

If the rules in question are fictional rules pertaining to a fictional setting, then the rules are copyright same as any other fiction. All the author/company has to do is say "this stuff we made up is copyright" and just like that it is. No paperwork necessary, just one line somewhere in your book or at the bottom of your webpage.

Now, whether or not CGL will come down on him for putting their stuff online depends on how in-depth the content is and how prickish CGL is about this sort of thing in general. Given that they have no issues with automated character generators (and in fact link to them on thier website), which do contain a great deal of copyright material, I doubt they will react too badly.

But yes, the rules are definitely copyright.

Bliss is listed in the tables in the back of Arsenal. Avail 15R, 15¥.

Sweet, thanks for that info.

I updated the site with something extra-special by the way: a Google map of Seattle with what seems to be both SR3 and SR4 locations embedded. The coordinates were taken from a German website that had a similar setup, but unfortunately lacked the ability to zoom in to street-level, so Downtown was an unclickable clusterfuck. No more!

What if Shadowrun is copyrighted as a game and as literary work, then every detail is copyrighted?

Then I am a criminal and deserve to be punished.

Either way, love what you have done. Thanks for the resource.

chinagreenelvis, you added Bliss but not to the Table at the top. FYI.

That is some excellent job!

Is this SR4 or SR4A?

SR4 20th Anniversary Edition, plus information from the extra books (Street Magic, etc.)

Yeah, I need to add that drug to the list. Haven't touched this in a few days. I have a lot of updates to make to it honestly, and right now it's very mage-biased (since that's what I've been playing). Going to be a very on-going project for a few months.

Anything else you guys want to see added to it, feel free to let me know.
