After 8 years I can play in SR one more time(as a player! Not GMing! At last biggrin.gif )
Yesterday we start to generate our characters. Everything was good until I have to spend skill points. And then it starts...
40 points total
6 skill
6 skill
6 skill
6 skill
6 skill
4 skill

I hate to play one-shoters. I always plan to play my character for more than one adventure. So, I always think, what will I do with my good Karma.
I hate this (part in SR character generation) ! If I spend starting skill points in other way, I will loose many of Karma points to achieve it during a play.(good karma for 3 skills on level 2 : 15 karma points. One skill with rating 6: 41 good karma!!!)
And BECKs veriotion has the same flaw.

Why nobody In place of Karma (and Attribute) points from character generation gave a pool of good Karma to spend on starting skills (and attributes).
That would solve the problem of involuntary, reasonable munchkinism

"This is not the Forum you are looking for."

I'm not sure I follow you. I understand that normal chargen tends to promote high beginning skills, but BeCKS does use Karma in place of Build Points for character generation for that very reason ... to even out characters' abilities and eliminate the 'munchkin factor' as much as possible.

While I don't necessarily like the system (and therfore don't use it myself), there doesn't seem to be a better one available as of yet that does the same thing.

I know one ... It's called self-control ...
"Abuse" of the system is not the system's fault, that's the player's choice.

And the next thing that comes to my mind is: It's not a competition, thus I won't mind if it takes longer or costs more karma to get "somewhere", when compared to other characters ...

Sorry. Lack of English to be more clear.

BECK's - oops. My mistake. I thought it's based on "Companion" variation of character generation.

Sorry, chumms. Case closed.

Well yeah, but I figured both of those things were self-evident. smile.gif
