Dumpshock Forums _ Dumpshock News, Bug Reports, Feature Requests, & Discussion _ Online game logs in a post

Posted by: pbangarth Mar 9 2009, 12:47 AM

I am running a Ghost Cartels campaign online, for which I have IC and OOC threads in Welcome to the Shadows.

I would like to post chat logs of the sessions in the IC thread for the players and anyone else interested. They run about 200k per session, and I would guess the total will come to about 20 sessions or 4 Gb. I would put these in the first post for easy access.

Is this allowed? Is there a size limit to posts in Dumpshock?

There is no limit, per se, but I'm sorry...... You can't have 4g.
However: 200k * 20 = 4,000k = 4mg. That's not really an issue.

EDIT:
Chat logs are something new though. Have to discuss that with the other mods and see how everyone feels.

G? M? What's one letter? grinbig.gif I will wait a bit to see if you folks come up with an issue. Thanks.

Wait, so your logs are measured in milligrams?

Any reason not to host them elsewhere and just post links? There have got to be free sites still out there.

Just trying to keep everything in one place.

The official consensus is: Feel free to link them in (as long as said linking does not violate the TOS), but please do not post the entire log to dumpshock

OK, thanks. I actually made a trial run to post the first log, and even without any emoticons in the file, it told me there were too many emoticons for it to be posted. I assume this is a less-than-exact response to the file being too big ( about 170 Kb). So I will find another way to keep the players all posted.

What site were you trying to post the logs to?

Posted by: pbangarth Mar 14 2009, 01:54 AM

I was attempting to add the chat log to the first post in the thread "Trans-global Ghost Cartels campaign, IC PC discussions" in the "Welcome to the Shadows" forum of Dumpshock.

I encased the text, which was sometimes highlighted with colour, italicization or bolding, in spoiler tags. I had edited the text to remove all emoticons and other graphics, and to remove any unnecessary carriage returns. I created a Microsoft Word file that contains the text and cut-and-pasted from there.

Now I understand your post and I think you misunderstood mine. We are asking that chat logs not be posted directly to dumpshock and instead link to them (posted externally) as needed.

Got it, thanks.

I can host those on my site if you like. I get a fair bit of traffic so they'll be noticed, I don't mind direct linking to the files and I can let you know how many downloads you've had which is usually a buzz.

Email me at K@knasser.me.uk if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer. I have devolved to emailing the logs to the players. So far, none has complained. If someone does, I'll look you up.

Hmmm.. There would be the narcissistic delight of having other people read about our games. Hmmm.....

Well that's what I assumed you were after. wink.gif Let me know if you like - it's no problem if they're text. If they were voice then I might have some space limitations (I have about 1.5GB spare), but that's it.
