I usually steal tricks from movies and TV. There was one run where I used lots of Edit and call interceptions to convince a target he was being hunted by the mob (or something, I forget).

For 4th ed.

Can you use edit to do voice masking? I've seen them do stuff like that in movies, but I haven't seen anything in SR that lets you do it (aside from cyberware).

Given that you can use edit to modify live video feeds, I'm sure that it allows you to open a sound modification program (Which exists today) and mess with people's voices.

What about duplicating a person's voice. Like a guard that needs to call for check in. I've been hacking their comm and recording their statement and then just playing it back at check in time. It works, but I am limited. I would be nice to do a true mimic.

I assassinated a mark, by hacking into his apartment's home node. I rewrote his morning coffee subroutine to use a deadly house cleaning product used by the cleaning drone, instead of his normal sugar replacement.

I had some players take turns breaking signals encryption, capturing traffic, and spoofing a cluster of drones in order to get them to restart and render them hackable. Each player did one step on their turn and handed off to the next one, coordinating over the tacnet. All while being pinned down by fire from the drones themselves.

Really good teamwork from a group where nearly everyone has some skill as a hacker.

Yeah, you should be able to easily fake the guard's voice to the level required for a verbal check-in from just capturing him talk once. It is something that can be done now, though it takes a bit of time and effort, I don't see why it wouldn't be able to be done streaming by SR4 tech standards.

And for more crunchy reasoning, there is cyberware that allows you to do this, and while the ware is what changes your vocal cords (or adjusts your voice, not sure how it works), it still has to have some sort of computer program to figure out what you are supposed to sound like moderating those changes. So, no reason you couldn't get a similar program, and I don't see why it couldn't be covered under a high level edit.

Most of them actually run on computer + edit actually. It is only when you are trying to edit something you don't have user access to that it is hacking (For example, the access logs when you're on a basic account).

I definitely wouldn't allow this. The cleaning drone wouldn't have the proper hardware to get the 'poison' into the coffee maker, and vice versa.

The cleaning drone has to be able to clean the coffeemaker, doesn't it? And both the cleaning drone and the coffeemaker have to get their supplies from somewhere. I really don't see any problems with the ability to make the switch. I don't know how easy it would be for someone to not notice the smell of cleaning chemicals in their coffee, but that depends on just how much they need their coffee.

I assume the cofee maker is self-cleaning and does so without goddamn poison.

And even if that was the case, you get whatever replaces the coffeemaker's normal non-toxic cleaning agent to replace it with a highly toxic cleaning agent.

I'm not saying it's impossible; there are many variables. However, I wouldn't assume it would work. Most cleansers would be very obvious by taste, and wouldn't kill fast, and probably not in that dosage. As for lethality, yeah, unless the entire cup is bleach or something, and the person somehow managed to drink the entire cup, it is unlikely to kill. Then again, if you have control of their home node, you could lock them in and cut their matrix access so they can't call for medical aid. Still fairly iffy.

My main point was that the switch itself would be quite reasonable.
