Erm, could we return this to the fascinating discussion about the possibilities of proto-AR tech? This looks like it's in danger of getting shut down or sparking into a flame war, and I'd hate for either to happen.

My apologies. But back to the AR, I don't see a problem with it because I'm sure the Common Sense factor will kick in on enough people to not operate heavy machinery while scrolling through your e-mails and what not (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

Yes my bad, my inquisitive nature got the best of me.

Anyway, my girlfriend's new smart phone has AR in it. Freaking thing blows me away everytime I tinker with it, all I've got is my POS 73 dollar LG prepay. Sometimes I put her phone over my eyes and pretend I have an AR monocle.

Until these phone solutions can make use of head mounted IO hardware, i would say its a clunky solution waiting to be perfected.

Clunky, yes. But I do like some of the things they claim to have available/ready. Point my phone at Big Bubba's BBQ and Biscuts, phone recognizes it, pulls up menu and reviews. Tada. Awesome. Though I am still waiting for the Sixth Sense project to take off.

this most likely: http://www.pranavmistry.com/projects/sixthsense/

Tho i will prefer a variant where you do not need to display to the world what your doing.

Yeah, obviously dozens of people projecting stuff on every available surface would get cumbersome, then there's privacy/security issues. The gestural controls though, and even the chest-mounted camera, are really interesting AR concepts. I think a clothing-mounted projector/camera assembly might be something you see on a lot of folks as a collaboration tool, to avoid having to actually wirelessly connect, or to avoid compatibility issues with different versions or OSes. With holographics it gets even more immersive!

Yup, that. Mix that with some glasses and you are good to go. Of course I'm not sure I want a cop to pull me over, look at me, and then all my information starts to scroll past his eyes while he stares me down. But aside from that, great project.

How much more intimidating would it be if your entire record starts scrolling down your chest!

Less for some females and none for me since I can jiggle around in my seat and f-up his reading surface until he punches me in frustration and I sue the city/county/state. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) It's the American way
