I've been toying with the idea of making a separate damage type altogether to compensate for large scale weapons like neo-armored carrier weapons and ship to ship weapons. Similar to the approach Palladium gave Rifts with megadamage. It could be called something like Vehicular damage or Capital damage, equivalent to 10-15 normal DV. I think it sounds good for drone to drone and vehicle to vehicle combat (and I really don't think even a cybertroll in milspec armor can stand up to a Brady Howitzer or Abram's long gun anyway) so getting shot with a vehicular weapons is edge save life only anyway. Good idea? bad idea?

In 3rd Ed. that did have such a thing. It was labeled "N" and then the damage level (Light, Moderate, Serious, Deadly). It was meant for large vessels, like in the Navy, but if one hit a person it went up in the boxes of damage accordingly. An LN rocket doing something like 14 or 15 boxes worth of damage, which obviously was Overflow, and so on from there.

SR4's basic approach to, yes, SR3's 'Naval' damage is to simply make the numbers higher. Arsenal has a number of 'vehicle-only' weapons, with stats that are intended to be appropriate to heavy vehicle armor/body. They run 15F to 30F (except for the nonlethal riot options), and they basically fit your requirement of 'Edge or Die'. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
One can argue if they *succeed* at matching heavy vehicle defenses (esp. since many heavy vehicles—like tanks—aren't statted in SR4), and about how ridiculous 'Troll tanks' can get, but they basically work in normal circumstances. :/ |

Can you mod a firelance for burst fire (or indeed lasers in general?)
A long burst from a firelance would give your troll tank second thoughts, at the very least. |

Did you notice that all four 'cannons' do have a blast radius? Yay! |

I'm hoping War has rules for 16-Inch Deck Guns...
Mortars are just so... Tiny. |

Haha! That's so retro. We ditched that when we invented missiles.

It's literally 2 inches from the Firelance. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ugh, how did i miss that. Still, book says SS fire rate. And i don't think weapon mods apply to vehicle weapons... Ok, this is crazy. The stats table say SS, while the text talk about being able to fire narrow bursts. Color me confused! |

Yup. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The text says 'full auto'. Presumably, a typo.
In fact, it implies that it's real FA: narrow and wide bursts. |

While we're on the subject of vehicle weapons. by RAW I can put one of those 8 cell missile launchers on a concealed turret mount in my Shin-Hyung.
Where do you hide an 8-cell launcher in a 4 door sedan? |

All things are subject to GM approval. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Honestly, though, we don't know what the MRL really looks like or how it works. We *do* know that it's not '8-cell': it has 2 firing tubes. Presumably, the rockets are quite small, and it's got some kind of 4-tube magazine that… rotates? God knows. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Well, except that you can't hit anything. Bloody rockets… Which is why you use missiles with a decent sensor suite. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And you're right about the MRL, looked at that way it probably doesn't take up anything like the space I was imagining. With missiles, you probably don't even need the turret mount either, just mount the tubes vertically as you would on a submarine. Hmm.. now I can fit a heavy laser or minigun in as well... |

Yeah. You get what you pay for, with missiles, I guess. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
