So, I was thinking about making an unarmed combat/face. cant decide to go ork or human, how much of an effect will being an ork have on social tests?

You will have one dice less. Go Orc.

You lose one die of Charisma.
You might also face racial penalties more often. You will, however, be a better brawler by far. Upsides, downsides. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

There are two reasons the penalty isn't a big deal.
One, there really isn't anything that gives you an augmented Charisma score (unless you use the optional rule where cosmetic biomods can increase Charisma), so the difference between a human and an ork will always be just that one point. Two, the Attribute is less important, because social skills are one of those areas that has a lot of things that can add to the dice pool (kinesics, tailored pheromones, etc.), and most of them stack. |

Wakshaani has hit it on the head. The slightly lower max CHA is no big deal, but situationally you may be looking at social racial penalties more often than a human face. On the flipside, the racial bonuses to BOD and STR make you a better brawler. Completely doable, though!

Doable? It's better. Just as Orcs always are.
Go Orc. Or Elf. |

If I'm not mistaken, you can also get the positive quality of human-looking if you really want to betray.... I mean play an Ork. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Social modifiers, as Glyph posted, can really swing the social skills around. From that, depending on who or where you're dealing can also be a factor.
Human in the Ork Underground could be a problem. An elf, maybe more. Ork, you're family. Dealing with Humanis sympathizers on the other hand, you'll have trouble. Honestly, though, any race is gonna have issues at one point or another based on prejudice alone. It certainly would be an interesting character concept for sure. One that I'd be willing to give a try (probably as a bio-adept). |

Of course, if you *really* want to have fun, make with a Troll Face. Model him after, say, Suge Knight, and let it roll.
Nothing quite like a well-groomed Troll in a suit, insisting that you sign with his record company while he rests a paw on your shoulder. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ork.gif) |

Orks make fine faces. You can leave minimal points in physical stuff and still be sturdy(Body is always nice to have though), and as mentioned, the social skills can be added to in many ways.
And yes, Human Looking. Orks can take it. (To be honest, if you don't mind spending a little Essence and nuyen, you can get cosmetic surgery now that will even get a Troll looking like a human in the face, especially if it's a Fomori to begin with who almost look human anyway from a lot of pictures. But, well if he walks in, and is a human guy whose like, 9 feet tall, people MIGHT know something's up with him so he'd still get nailed with the racial penalties I imagine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) ) But Orks are just, well...good at like anything. Cheap and effective and they have been since SR3 in their D level priority. |

In SRM season 2, the team called the trinity, wasn't there face a troll. Sort of. Jackhammer has Charisma 4, Con 2, Etiquette3, Intimidation 4, and Negotiation 3. His description makes him out more of a linguist than a face. I'd've thought he'd have Influence 4 and Intimidation 4 for being a face, along with some bioware to help. All he's got is Wired Reflexes 2. Of course, I'm sure a GM could add the necessary gear to add sensors and software and such. |

Human in the Ork Underground could be a problem. An elf, maybe more. Ork, you're family. I have played a Human from the Ork underground before, and it's worked out ok. I don't remember where the stats were, but aren't about 25-30% of the Underground humans? |

Maybe, I don't really know the ratio off hand. Was thinking more along the lines of "One ork thinks you're in with Humanis for whatever reason, and now your whole day's gone to drek."

Social modifiers, as Glyph posted, can really swing the social skills around. From that, depending on who or where you're dealing can also be a factor. Yes, and the whole social penalties also depend considerably on how the GM runs the game, for example how strong and widespread he considers racism to be in "his" 6th world. Now this thread has given me the idea for a team consisting entirely of faces of the different metatypes, with the other roles as secondary fields... |

I have now made a troll adept unarmed chaos machine. AND he is an amazing face. (20 dice on rolls) he wears a a pure white exeutive suit with a long jacket, slicked back black hair, and his horns seems to flow smoothly with his hair curling up at the end just above the back of his neck. he always wears sunglasses. Oh he also uses the Blast element + smashing blow. right now he does around 26 DV to structures if I read everything correctly. he makes his own doorways lol. and if he punches you, you will know it. His street name. Tiny Turner. perhaps it would be more hilarious for a human child to do that blowing walls apart bit. but eh. lol. Oh I cant find the book attitude online, can someone tell me how the armor mods for clothes work? mainly can you stack carbon-boron with Kevlar threading, or Delt-amlyoid?
EDIT: his only ranged weapon is a Bow... that hurts..... A LOT. |
