I've got a prettier character sheet I can upload once we've got a Google Docs repository or whatever.

I would be happy to play data-entry with my copy of Hero Lab, and make PDF character sheets for anyone who wants one (and doesn't mind me being privy to the nitty-gritty details of their character, of course). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

You should all have invites, but if not: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum...r-love-of-money

Basically Groups is a forum system. It's less like Yahoo's mini-facebook, and more like modern forms and the old newsgroups that those forums came from.

It could be a bit before I can get my updated character. My laptop no longer wants to work correctly. I might be able to get it fixed tonight, or at least get to my data.

Gmail (and other personal mail) is blocked here at work, so I assume the other stuff is as well.

No invite here, yet. And without one, I can't see, post, or even ask to join.

Meanwhile, I uploaded a PDF of the current version of my hacker-adept, now called "Grave", to the Docs/Drive folder now renamed after him.

Weird. It did act a little goofy when I tried to send it. I'll play along with the settings and get an update when I have it figured out.

UPDATE: Okay, I added everyone using the Direct Add option. If you got an invite email, disregard and try the link again, let me know.

Here it is again so you don't have to scroll:

Very strange; it shows me as a member when I look at the List of members, but I'm still getting the "you're not one of us" message.

I'll poke some more from my end.

Yayy, new technology! /sarcasm ... hehehe

EDIT: aaaaaah, no, this is a different message I think: "You cannot view topics in this forum. You do not have the necessary permissions to view topics in this group."

Haha, at least you're in. Time to dive into the permissions settings now that the first part works (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

Try it now. It looked like a simple fix.

So on the races, are Pixies and Shapeshifters allowed?

Allowed, yes, but not recommended. Shifters can be especially troublesome. Expect a pixie to be treated poorly on a whole and a shifter to be fairly vulnerable as their Street Cred rises (and thus, more people know who and what the shifter is).

If you DO play a Pixie, I strongly suggest taking SINner, and being from France. Alternately, a criminal SIN issued in Tir Tairngire (there's a Pixie population in and around Portland, and the Tir has been issuing criminal SINs to Pixies who stray onto the wrong side of Tir law).

Either way gives you at least a LITTLE bit of protection, in the form of being a verified citizen of a recognised sovereign state.

Otherwise? You're not even a PERSON ... you're a DANGEROUS ANIMAL.

...

You'd still face the same prejudices, the same person-to-person and day-to-day difficulties. But at least you won't get sniper-shot by Animal Control, just for walking (flying?) down the street in a "nice neighborhood" kind of place.

Thorguild: Is your son in or out? I have a player on a wait-list, and we're getting close to crunch time so I'd like to finalize my setup (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

By the way, let's try to move the forum stuff over to the Groups site so its easier to work on. I've been testing it out and think it could help deal with unwieldy threads.

EDIT: BTW, I might be able to use Google Sites to put Docs and Groups all in one URL, this is something I'm toying with now. The Groups gadget looks good, but I'm a little wary about Docs settings because I don't know if my GM-only folder is going to be visible to everyone even though the share settings are set to me only. I'm going to create a dummy doc in that folder and leave the page up. If someone wants to help me test this out, please just let me know and I'll give you the info you need to look into it.

My son is in.

He was working on a gun-adept, but does not want to interfere with another gun-based character's mojo. I told him that most SR games have plenty of room for people that shoot.

I think it's fairly common that everyone can fight, sneak, and talk passably. That means there is plenty of room for overlap/teamwork. Especially with 5(?) players.

Oh, they definitely do. There's riflemen, spray-and-pray hosers, wild-west-esque pistoleers, "heavy weapons orks/trolls", etc, etc, etc.

Then there's Adepts or Augments or Mundane-Edge-Monkeys. Stoic dwarves, study orks, or agile elves.

And so on. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

...

Kudos to him, though, for thinking of other players' enjoyment as well as his own. I've met folks twice his age who would never bother doing so.

Weird, what sort of problem are you having? Got a specific error? I'm assuming that means you can't hit the Group where we've been doing the chatting lately (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

Hmm...what browser are you using? IE should be fine, though maybe you need a newer version. Obviously, Chrome works perfectly, being a Google product itself. I have no clue how Safari, Opera, or any others might interact with Google's stuff.

It is, unfortunately, lots of folks seem to be interested in trying this out. I'm working on starting a blog to detail my experiences, and will post a thread after we have our first real session (first Saturday in Sept.) to talk about it with the community.

FWIW, having learned what I have so far, I have lots of projects floating about in my head. Later this year I just might be asking DSer and Battletech fans for help setting up a Solaris 7 league idea I have using Tabletop Forge and Hangouts (plus other Google resources I've been playing with).

I can confirm Firefox and IE work fine. Even the script-blocking I've got on Firefox doesn't seem to be a problem.

Not sure what would cause the slow page loading.
