Hey folks, I'm Opti. You may, or may not, know me from The Neo-Anarchist podcast, Shadowrun: Origins AP, as a dev of 6th ed, from Shadowrun: Anarchy, or some of the SR books I've written. But as of this week, our company, Fragging Unicorns Games, just released a new Cyberpunk Fantasy RPG onto Kickstarter called Subversion. Subversion is a game of community and rebellion in a city called Neo Babylon.

The link for the Kickstarter is here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fraggi...sion?ref=1g1kpu

And you can download the current version of the rules here for free: https://www.fraggingunicorns.com/s/Subversi...es-Document.pdf

I'm here if you have any questions, and if you decide to pledge, that's fragging awesome, thanks!

OK, so what's with all the Cyberpunk+Fantasy Kickstarters all of a sudden? Not that I'm complaining, I'm just wondering how there suddenly seems to be an explosion of the genre on KS.

Apparently, *someone* thinks that the currently available products don't meet the cusstomers' demands. 'Nuff said (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I guess 6E hasn't been that popular. I never bothered with it, personally. I own I think all of 4E and half or so of 5E (to mine for ideas), but everything I heard about 6E didn't impress me. So...I guess this is the backlash. If the official Shadowrun edition isn't meeting fan expectations, then maybe the unofficial versions will.

I believe there's an old saying "If you don't take of business, then someone else will." That does seem applicable here.

Sure, 6th Ed is a disaster, but it's been that way since 2019.

My personal theory is that recent OGL trouble made people realize how little of a game system is actually copyrightable, so they might as well have a go at fixing it.

I'd love to be able to say that we were able to put a whole ass game together in the last month since the OGL crisis, but we aren't that good, lol. We've been working on Subversion for about 3 years. But you can check out the beta rules for free on the Kickstarter page and see if you dig it before pledging.

If I had to guess, it's probably a confluence of several factors:

1. 6e came out in 2019, so if people gave it a fair crack, they may have stuck with it for a year or two before turning to making their own homebrew.

2. Something really big happened in 2020 and dragged on for more than a year. I can't quite remember its name, but it left people confined to their homes with nothing to do but masturbate or homebrew (or masturbate AND homebrew).

3. A fully written and playtested set of rules is going take a year or two to come together anyway. So late 2022/early 2023 is the natural timeframe for all these WIPs to come together.

Also, we really can't underestimate #2. I'm a poet and finished my MS over lockdown, despite having sat on many of the poems within for 10 years or longer. Nearly every single writer I know finished a book over the same timeframe, and they're all getting published round about now.

Looks interesting. I KS'd SINless for the inspiration, so looking forward to taking a gander at this to mine for ideas.

Yeah ok, that looks like a more reasonable explanation than mine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
