I suspect it was an awful pun, in response to the post "bondage and submission."
"Bondage" is an archaic synonym for "vassalage," and the term "vassal" means "a holder of land by feudal tenure on conditions of homage and allegiance," or "a person or country in a subordinate position to another." Therefore, most vassal served their feudal lords (fulfilling the allegiance requirement) by taking up arms and fighting as knights. And the verb phrase "to tap out" is used in wresting and other such combat sports. When someone has me in an armbar so tight that I have no real chance of escaping, and they just might break my arm, I "tap out" by either slapping the ground, or tapping whatever part of my opponent I can reach. When a wrestler is victorious because he forced his opponent to tap out, it is said that he "won by submission," hence the pun. I hear TapouT is a brand of clothing which sponsors the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is a competition where submission is one of several ways to win, but I'm not sure how to work that in. |

I suspect it was an awful pun, in response to the post "bondage and submission." ...snip... McAllister is right on the money, obscure references and extreme PUNishment are a vice I randomly indulge in.TAPOUT is a group of mixed martial art (MMA) enthusiasts who created a clothing line, a tv show etc in promoting MMA. They are at this point still closely tied to UFC. Remember kids, Bad jokes are sadism too. |

it may be related to the fact that (to the best of my knowledge) you can't actually post images on these forums. oh, you can *try* all you like, there's even the button to do the formatting for you. it just doesn't work.

drifting back to the original subject, when I read the first post I was thinking of the jumping done in Ghost in the Shell, especially by the Major who not only could drop from the top of a sky scraper and appear to land shooting but also leap UP even bouncing up and alley going from wall to wall. if that's what you're looknig for-it ain't in the SR rues. not even close. Though if you watch carefully some of the bigger leaps down, like the 1st and last episodes of 2nd gig she does seem to be trailing a psider silk line.

Except for the latter, which is actually possible if you have an adept with both Wall Running and Great Leap. |

Thanks all for your replies and help.
Would it be lame to say: "get a rope and a hook"? It that too basic? Well, it's not exactly the same. Think: Alex Mercer in PROTOTYPE or Major Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell. Free fall gives speed and surprise - it's difficult to achieve anything remotely similar with a rope. So, I guess that's what I'm trying to see: how to make a character that can use some freefall or moderatly-slowed fall as an tactical element of surprise. Subsidiary question: how fast can you make a human run (reliably, and without edge) in SR4? And how far can you make him/her jump? |
