So, here's a story about an airborne police robot that will be able to assist normal officers that will be joining the force soon. So far, only in Europe (UK to be specific, but they mentioned England - unless my dirty American knowledge of Europe means that "British" also refers to the UK), but if successfull I expect these drones to expand. They will be armed with tasers, non-lethal rounds (probably rubber bullets), and flash-packs - I mean, a disorienting strobe light.
Here's the full story, the link at the beginning was just a synopsis. |

Great Britain refers to mainland UK - England, Wales and Scotland, but I'm 80% confident that you can get away with using British to refer to Northern Ireland as well, since there's no other appropriate term to use for "comes from the UK".

Wow, I feel really American right now. I always figured UK was either United Kingdoms or the Ukraine, whichever made more sense at the time.
EDIT: I guess UK = United Kingdoms, and Uk = Ukraine. |

I've never heard anybody referring to the Ukraine as "UK", UK is always the United Kingdom...or Great Britain, or just England, few people on the continent bother to make a distinction there (or are even aware it exists).
PS: The official shorthand for Ukraine is UA. And yes, I had to google it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Simply ignore everything east of Poland, Czechia and Austria. Just like the UK vs. GB. England issue most people here just don't care and would probably place Wilna somewhere in Afghanistan ^^

As a further point of pedanticism, UK is short for "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". The United Kingdom is acually a contraction. Don't worry, it is normal to have never heard of the full name of the UK - such details are vanishingly unimportant even to the subjects of the Queen themselves.

Well, none of the subjects of the Queen call her by her full name and titles, either (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Legally the UK breaks down as four countries: England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Great Britain (aka Britain, and informally albeit incorrectly England) is the island on which England, Wales, and Scotland are located. Historically:

And Wales includes all of that British isle south of Scotland, not just the bubbly, round bit in the SW corner?
