The only reason I went with the Meta Link was cos the price of the 'link and the mod was cheapest compared to the others.

I mean those are better than a Fairlight. But the Caliban has such an awesome name. I won't be able to have Cherry use her 'link without thinking of The Tempest. I'm also hoping to eventually convince Penta to let Cherry upgrade her commlink to 7 Signal, but I figured I'd wait until I'd lulled him into a false sense of trust, first. |

Well, it's not like 7 signal is all that dangerous anyway. Besides, if you wanted better signal, you'd just route the commlink signal into a dedicated transmitter, like a commercial AM/FM radio (signal 9). It's the principle of the matter, really. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif) |

So, I was thinking about covers, here's a suggestion I have:
-1st cover, we're just some rich folks living it up on the high seas. This will require some of us to be able to pretend to be rich people, and the rest to pretend to be servants and crew. We don't need to pretend very hard - this cover isn't intended to pass more than the quickest inspection. We'll need to leave the Luxury Amenities in place. Guns and stuff are to defend us from pirates! -2nd cover, we're prospectors. We got a hot tip that not all of the orichalcum deposits from Haley's Comet actually disappeared, and there's supposed to be a big one somewhere in the mid-Atlantic. This requires us to have some specialized surveying gear, and probably at least one of the submersible drones. If we're just legitimate surveyors, why the first cover? Well, a find like this could make several fortunes, so we need to make sure no one else catches on and finds it first. 3rd cover, we're still surveyors just...not for minerals. Rumor has it that some corp lost a very important shipment somewhere asea, and we intend to find it. It's pretty obvious why we need cover now, eh? No additional anything needed, except maybe some phony bills of shipping and such. 4th cover, if needed, is as above, except instead of freelancers, we're working for the corp in question to recover the cargo, or destroy it if necessary to keep it out of enemy hands. Real shadowrunner stuff! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) This cover will require some explosives (preferably depth charges or torpedoes, though we only need a couple), as well as perhaps a couple people who know corp-y stuff. Anyone feel strongly one way or another? |

I've already built contacts into Sea Dog for salvaging. There remain plenty of salvageable old world vessels in the ocean in the here and now, it stands to reason some of them might never be found, giving anyone looking to linger a reason that'll stand up to casual inspection of paperwork. That could tie in with number four, where occasionally we go down to recover cargo from, or destroy derelict wrecks. Sea Dog's got the diving and demolition skills to do that, I just haven't purchased explosives for him.
Either, or any of the proposed, cover provides enough for casual inspection, but when you consider the amount of weaponry that Sea Dog alone is packing, we're going to need smuggler's compartments just for our own gear. |

I did rich folks because Penta seems to be favoring some sort of yacht - and all of those covers require secrecy, so rich folks kinda works. I prefer salvaging/prospecting, myself, if we can work out a ship for it (p.s. catamarans are awesome! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif) ) Maybe take take my line of covers, and replace the top level with actually just a pedestrian salvage operation. "Yes, we're salvaging. Well, actually, we're prospecting, but it's a secret. Well, okay, we're really salvaging...but it's super secret. No, really, we have to kill you now."

On the subject of cover for a yacht, we don't have to be rich people, we're merely the crew of a yacht in transit to where the boss wants it to be. It's not our fault he's so rich and inconsiderate that he keeps changing his mind so often we end up in the same part of the ocean all the time.

Ain't no way you're gonna get Sea Dog dressing in anything fancy 'cept for loud Hawaiian shirts and shorts, and even then he's going to have a holster on.

We could be fisherman with a trawler type boat. To give an example the Soviets uses fishing trawlers filled with electronics off the coast of Florida every time there was a satelite or space shuttle luanch. Everybody in the world knew what the Soviets were doing but they were in international waters so there was not much the US could do but harry them.

If you could get me details on the Soviet intel trawlers (size and stuff), I'd definitely consider it.

If you could get me details on the Soviet intel trawlers (size and stuff), I'd definitely consider it. The smallest one I could scare up was the USS Pueblo, which clocks in at 177' long at 900 tons when completely full. EDIT: Note that this length seems to be pretty normal for a large fishing trawler. EDIT AGAIN: The Pueblo is, obviously, an American ship, but is supposed to be similar in type to Soviet vessels. |

I think 'fishing trip' should definitely be one of our covers. If anyone finds guns, it's for clay pigeons. If anyone finds explosives, it's for cheating at fishing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
