Demolitions should cover the actual placing and set up of the charges, not knowing where and why to put a charge in a particular place. Some kind of engineering or architecture skill would make more sense as far as knowing where to put the charges.

Demolitions is a very broad skill. I suspect that it includes some aspects engineering. Many active skills require specialized knowledge skills and readily convert into them in some instances. For example, a burnout magician has all of his magical skills converted into approperiate knowledge skills. Demolitions should include just enough engineering knowledge to make a building fall but not enough to construct one that won't topple on its own.

If you're a shadowrunner, you're more likely to down a building by placing cutting charges on crucial supports than by mortaring the holy Hell out of the place.

This entirely depends on what kind of shadowrunner you are. I've known a few who were more likely to down a building using mortars. Hell, I've known a few who were more likely to down a building by kicking it real hard...

Ah yes, Shattering Blow, aka Van Damme Grimace Punch.

....Leela had the following supportive Knowledge skills for her demolitions.

Architecture
Physics (Spes. Kinetics)
Structural Engineering
Explosives

A proper demo job (causing significant structural damage or taking down light structures such as a transmission tower) could take her several days to set up, (analysing the target, studying plans if available, calculating amount/type of explosives, etc.)

To actually implode a building, would take a lot more for the structure needs to be gutted and properly weakened to allow gravity to properly do it job.

Programmes like Blast Masters on the Discovery Channel, came in rather handy for effectively running the character.

Why bother with explosives? Generates way too much interest from the authorities for most people's tastes I would have thought. Just use a couple fuel drums, toss a match and torch the place.

Blowing stuff up is fun.

That isn't an answer to the above question. It is just a general statment that applies in all cases everywhere.
