Just to toss a little alchohol on the dying embers.... Why didn't the Bodyguard posted earlier have Professional Knowledge skill: Bodyguard? _That_ is the skill that tells you how to act like a bodyguard.

It's one way to express it. I thought "Professional Knowledge: Security Procedures" would cover it nicely enough. Tom-AY-to, tom-AH-to, yes?

Possibly. I'd figure "security procedures" would be a lot wider and not nearly as deep. One is a skill on how most security arrangements handle things. The other is how to make a living as a bodyguard.

So pretty much, you and I would be at the "GM and player discuss the character and make sure everyone has the same understanding of it" stage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I can live with that.

Pretty Much. Keeps things consistent, and keeps those WTF? moments at bay.

The worst I'll tend to say about a character is... "That is ... Interesting/Unusual/Imaginative/Inspiring/Really Clever ... I don't think it will work in this game. Maybe if ..."

Heh. I'm a security guard IRL, so here's how it works (in my state at least).

In the state of Texas there are four levels of security licenses. The first and second are basically the same (they were rolled together), and having it makes you a Non-Commissioned Security Guard (non-com = no gun). The third class is a Commissioned Security Officer (+gun). The fourth is a PPO - Personal Protection Officer: a bodyguard. You need a fourth-class license to get your PI (Private Investigator) license, but it isn't considered a full fifth class.

So basically, "Security Proceedures" would be anything security related, and "Bodyguard" would be a probable specialization of this.
