I keeps seeing references to it in reference to Shadowrun, but I have no idea what it is.

Is it the SR-universe version of GURPS, or what?

A quick search would've revealed a fairly recent thread.

Wouldn't the better question be "What are Nerps?"

There are many answers, but as far as I can tell, they are some form of candy. That of course is based purely on contextual posts from Nikoli in certain IC discussions over in the Welcome to the Shadows sub-forum...

Or a pharmaceutical. It's sort of hard to tell.

NERPS 1 out of every 16,000,000,000 doctors surveyed recommend it.

NERPS are nothing and everything, they dont have a definition since first showing up in first edition to their almost complete disappearece in third, they have no meaning.

NERPS didn't disappear from 3rd Edition, they just went back underground to make sure they didn't fall into the wrong hands.

NERPS are everywhere you look. If it's Shadowrun, NERPS is somehow involved.

NERPS are for children.

NERPS are for adults.

NERPS are nothing you need concern yourself with, citizen.

NERPS appears in the third edition SR Companion's SOTA rules. In fact, a SOTA advance in NERPS in three times as likely as a SOTA advance in any other field according to the tables.

They had ads and stuff in the first edition books, they were umm just more visible in the earlier editions. I know NERPS showed up in the SOTA charts, but there hasnt been a NERPS ad in the third edition books that Im aware of.

NERPS for the undead? Yakashima is working on that, since Big D put a price on it.
