It says movie, but I thought maybe it's for a video game or something. Can anyone explain?

I guess that's the abominable "Shadowrun" team-shooter for Xbox 360 by Microsoft...

What're you talking about? It'll be awesome. Who needs more than two factions? Who ever liked Orks anyways? It'll rule, you'll see.

Dude, you totally forgot...

I mean seriously, what the hell does a cyberpunk game need hackers or wrench monkeys for? All we need is guns, and spells. Cool spells, not sissy shit like manabolt. Nah, we want teleportation. And resurrection. Just don't cast it on a dwarf, they'll suck it up like a porn star on set. And cast quick on an elf, I mean EVERYBODY knows they regenerate!

FPS games are the new platformers.

In the '80s and early '90s, when imaginationless producers wanted to make a game based on a particular property (or other concept), they said 'well, make it into a platform game. It's easier and it'll still sell.' Nowadays, simply inset 'first-person shooter' in place of 'platform game', and you've got it. No matter than platform/FPS is an inappropriate style of game for the property, it's what sells at the moment, so that's what we'll do!

And while you're at it, make it as unimaginative a conversion as possible. Sure, it's based on an RPG, but we don't need a complex interface like System Shock 2, that'll just confuse people. Doom3 was a no-frills interface and that sold huge, so let's do it like that instead. And make sure it's multiplayer or it won't sell. Everyone who likes the property will buy it anyway, so we don't have to worry about pleasing them -- we need to get other players to buy it first.

Now, if everyone in the world would get together and STOP BUYING CRAP GAMES, we'd all go home happy. :grinbig:

That and MMOs

That said, I could see Shadowrun working fairly well as a squad based FPS, with some kind of rewards/advancement system.

Heck, Stargate is getting an MMO, and I just don't get that. Stargate really begs for a squad based system, with episodic content expansions for a mission based game.

Stargate was going to get a mission based, squad based FPS game that looked fairly promising. They had all the voice over work and everything. Then MGM suddenly decided that for no particular reason they wouldn't allow the developer to have the license after all, just as they were looking for a publisher.

This Shadowrun game looks a goodgame in its own right, but it is most certainly not Shadowrun and does not deserve the name.

And it's possible to turn most games into a platform game without stretching backstory too much. When you include anything in the game beyond run, jump and possibly shoot though you open up the realms for this sort of idiocy.

That is my problem with the game. Shadowrun is so much more that a FPS. I would love to see it as a game but the one they are making definately does not deserve the name. Call it Cyberpunk or something else.

I think he was referring to the game we play, not the FPS.

If he meant this particular console game, and not, say, "any first-person shooter you could make with it", then I retract my statement. I'm pretty sure he didn't.

Simple answer is an SR based game *could* work on a first person perspective, with the right system. Possibly include an optional 3rd person cam for climbing, and various other skills. Think maybe the stealth segment in the original Voyager Elite Force, maybe Thief from what I heard, or Commandos with a 1st/3rd person viewpoint.

However SR meets Counterstrike isn't necessarily a good thing.

If I was going to make a Shadowrun FPS, I would draw on System Shock 2 and Deus Ex 1. Actually, I probably wouldn 't have made Shadowrun into a FPS in the first pace; a Baldur's Gate style team RPG or a KOTOR style hero & sidekick RPG would have been more probable.

I'm sure that, as a FPS, it will be an adequate, possibly even fine offering. But from what I can tell, it ain't Shadowrun.
