"Inside the Body Trade", a recent Discovery doc, deals with this. For a historical perspective, I'd recommend "Body Snatchers", a History Channel doc about stealing cadavers for medical schools/research. Lastly, a horror film called "Touristas" is a Hostel-esque look at organ legging,

Yet another Life Imitates Shadowrun news item. From the Washington Times, May 19th:
"BOLIVIA Cuba's harvesting of student's organs riles family, state By Martin Arostegui Santa Cruz, Bolivia - A young Bolivian medical student...was returned to her family in Bolivia with all of her organs missing, touching off controversy about Cuba's growing presence in Bolivia..."They took out everything," said Miss Porco Calle's horrified sister, Sofia, who showed the body stuffed with sponge cotton and then stitched back up to TV cameras. "Her lungs, kidneys, liver, ovaries down to her vagina are gone. They even pulled out her tongue and teeth", said Sofia Porco Calle, who accuses the Cuban government of trying to conceal its role in organ trafficking...the Cuban government could be trying to hide the cause of her death." Wow, I'm all about organ donation but that's nine flavors of creepy.
The second page of the article is even odder because it implies that there were motives beyond "Organs are good business". Overbearing government obscuring the truth? Family in peril? Sounds like a job for... Paid mercenary/criminals... er.. Shadowrunners! |
