I always thought it was mph, well probably just because I live in Texas and thats what it's always been to me. But i've recently realized that everything else is in meters. Then I thought "well it must be kph." Though after looking, and finding the conversion chart, the speeds seem a bit low to me. So a quick question, are the speeds for Vehicles in mph, or kph?
Edit: Well i've found it's Meters Per Turn, and that you can accel past it, but it still seems a bit low on the whole. |

If you consider a Combat Turn to be an amorphous measure of time between 3-5 seconds, the speeds listed can be in Meters per Turn and Miles per Hour simultaneously. That's the way my group has always treated it, and it works out pretty close. (In previous editions anyway. I haven't compared it to the run speeds in SR4.)

Shadowrun has always been meters per turn and a turn is 3 seconds.

I've always prefer to consider combat turns as 4 seconds (since the maximum IP is 4) which means that you have one initiative pass per second and the speed of each metaspecies was changed to a multiple of 4 so we can easily calculate the amount of meters moved by IP.

To summarize and confirm:
Shadowrun speed is in meters per turn. Turns are three seconds. So:

A quick formula can be used to get KM/H
(((S/3)*60)*60)/1000=KM/H A Cascade Skraacha has Accel: Walking: 40 / Running: 160 which then becomes: 48/192 Maximum speed is 600 meters per turn which becomes 720 KM/H With a basic operation time of 6 hours this baby can go 4320 KM before refueling - 6 hours of fuel will get us from Seattle to Rhode Island, and have a little left for sightseeing. |

From an RL perspective I might add that a normal tanks swallows something like three liters per kilometer... as the text in arsenal says, the 6 hours is a rule of thumb, but if the GM is free to adjust as seen fit. btw, kinda interesting comparing it to the real life chinook: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CH-47_Chinook...ns_.28CH-47D.29 |

From an RL perspective I might add that a normal tanks swallows something like three liters per kilometer... Which means that the fueltank would carry 4320 X3 liters of fuel. Which would land Skraacha at a fueltank carrying 13000 liters of fuel - For an aircraft that sounds like a little - even with improved materials and ecofriendly engines. In comparison we can take an average Car - The Mercury Comet Maximum Speed (KM/H): 158 KM/H (Average). 158 X 6 = 948 Kilometers. Lets say that we have regular old fashioned "green" gas guzzler that takes 0,5 liters per 10 kilometers then we would have a 48 liter fueltank. Is that about right? |

If it was a tank, but T-Birds are vectored-trust vehicles - something like a Harrier without wings but with lots of armour...10 l per kilometer sounds like a good estimate for that. Of course those numers assume quitely hovering/driving along an even tarmac road, difficult terrain easily makes an MBT guzzle more than 5 liters/km. |

Double fun because parsecs is a unit of distance, not of speed? Well, technically speaking he is right. The movement rate in Shadowrun is distance moved in meters and not a speed. But I DO have a SLIGHT problem with seeing someone moving 3 parsecs at walking speed across a room... Hmm...on the other hand...whats the speed of the character if they move 3 parsecs in 3 seconds...Collission rules...runner vs wall... |

Movement rate is in distance per combat turn, so it is a speed.
As for your calculation, it would take lightyears to figure out. Har har. |

Personally I figured the movement rates were a little wierd - normal people at normal walking speeds moving 10 meters in 3 seconds. This is moving 32.8 (and more numbers) feet in 3 seconds - a speed of about 10 feet a second walking. To that same end, a naga PC would be a 32 foot long snake. That is long. |
