My money's either on a new edition, the release of Storm Front, where they tie up all their apocalyptic plot threads, or a combination (Storm Front shakes up the world and then a new edition appears). I doubt there'll be a new game though, because unless someone wants to try again with a shooter, all bases are basically covered.

New edition, obviously. A too early announcement of a 2013 release of Shadowrun 5th edition, with at least one AAA destroyed and one Great Dragon killed. The paper version of the new edition will actually be released in 2014 after many delays. It will divide the fanbase with some people staying with their "fixed" version of SR4A and other embracing the change.

No it will be SR4A + fixes and a completely new Matrix mechanism, that will show its failures pretty soon after the game's release. An update will be added to the Matrix system in the following Matrix book, but it will be too little too late.

The day of the Mayan Calendar, and NOT the day of the Awakening (which was last year).
But still, it's pretty obvious a new edition is coming, and probably planned for sometimes next year so it would make sense for this teaser to be for this new edition. |

1. A message sent to some former playtesters telling them that they were looking for playtesters for a large scale playtest.
2. The latest books are setting elements in place for a big change similar to the one that often goes together with a new edition. 3. They've run out of core books to release and new gear books only sell for so long... |

It certainly could be a new edition. By today's industry standard, it would be normal enough to announce 5E now, shooting for release late next year/ early 2014.
However, I'm not so sure that's what they're doing. My guts just tell me their just updating the setting in some way. Neat vid, but I'm not freaking out yet. |
