I have finally finished writing my new RPG system, LowDie, and have released it under the Open Gaming Licence. The reason I bring this up here is because Shadowrun was one of the influences in its design (as explained on the website).

Aww, in my own language! That's so sweet! :) Anyway, I was thinking about it, and I think this could considerably speed up NPC vs NPC rolls and the likes, and I'll probably start using it for that. I'd be curious to see a probability of success table for this system versus the SR system for common tasks like shooting or whatever. I don't know if you or someone else (well versed in probability maths.. I got a mere C+ in that) would like to take the time to do it. |

That's funny, I hadn't noticed where you were from, just decided to say thanks in French for some reason :) Can I just ask what you were referring to when you said "I think this could considerably speed up NPC vs NPC rolls and the likes, and I'll probably start using it for that."? Were you refering to the LowDie system or something else? In terms of probabilities - the LowDie probabilities are all in the Appendix of the system, and I would imagine that someone has the same for Shadowrun. As an example I will start... LowDie - A person with an average Attribute Total of 10 makes a test with an Average difficulty (DN of 6). The chance of Success is 85%, made up of: 06% Incomplete 24% Adequate 27% Good 18% Excellent 10% Outstanding Shadowrun - A person with an average Attribute (rating 3) makes a test with an Average difficulty (TN 4???). The chance of success is 87.5%, made up of: 37.5% 1 success 37.5% 2 successes 12.5% 3 successes What you decide a LowDie Success Level is equivalent to in terms of SR successes is debateable, e.g. an Incomplete + Adequate success could be considered the equivalent of 1 Success. Anyone want to do the rest? :) |

Yes, I was referring to LowDie. I find it hard to replace the entire SR system with LowDie, and I think players really want to roll bucket loads of dice; it makes them happy. They wouldn't go for just 1 roll. But if I need a quick resolution for 2 NPCs fighting, the result really doesn't need to be as "accurate" and certainly shouldn't take as long to roll as a full SR test, so LowDie could speed things up for that.
Ah sweet, hadn't looked at that. Thanks! |

Well if you do use any part of the LowDie System, let me know how it went!

oh, oh, oh, oh!
man! you were SOOOOO close! you even used two 10 sided dice! If you had used a percentile based targeting system then you would have damn near made the perfect system! Where the att. and skill are the static DN modified by the surroundings and whatever else. Players aim to roll under their (att or skill)+(modifiers) Still a great system! GREAT work! (perhaps a website upgrade a little wouldn't hurt) |

The LowDie website has undergone a slight face lift but it will hopefully evolve further. |
