Is anyone interested in playing Shadowrun over IRC? For the past several years, there has been a pretty successful Shadowrun game going, but recently many members have left for various reasons; for example, I'll be going out of country for two years, whereas I used to be a regular.
So, the situation is that there are at least two dedicated individuals who would like to play Shadowrun, but at the present time there aren't enough people remaining to really run a game. If you'd like to step up and try IRC chatroom-style shadowrun out, please go ahead and contact Dave by AOL IM; his screen name is DaveK Omoikane. As of right now the group isn't really meeting regularly due to lack of members, so the specific online location and time of games is probably quite flexible for new players. Anyway, please get in touch with Dave. We all really love gaming, but recently logistics have just gotten in the way. |

I'd be interested if the group wouldn't mind having a neophyte come in. I'd IM Dave now but he's apparently away. Have him IM SkewedApathy when he has a chance if I don't get to him first.

I am also pretty interested, and I sent Dave an IM, even though he's apparently "singing sea shanties." So if anyone else should be keeping track of this, I'll gladly join in. I have a game I GM on the Dumpshock server, so as long as these games aren't at the same time, I'll be in.

Stop in #s-run on underworld. The gang is a little rough at times ... but are a fantastic group. I laughed so many times watching these guys carry on. There are some good players that hang out there.

I'm pretty much always away on IM, but leave a message after the beep and I'll get back to you.
Actually, scratch that. I'm going to be out of town for the next week, so please direct future inquiries at Wounded Ronin. Upsilon (aka, 'DaveK') |

Hiya. Just dropping a line to say that I'm interested in joining your IRC game.
My online buddy zuburi has been in contact with DaveK about us possibly joining. Zuburi was planning to start his own SR3 campaign in AIM or IRC when he saw your post here on Dumpshock. As for my own credentials, I am new to Shadowrun but I've read the sourcebook front to back and I've got a good feel for it. 8) I have played and GMd D&D, V:tM/WW:tA, and SW in PBEM and PBIRC. (Sorry for the acronym overload!) I'm not currently involved in any other games. Hope to hear from you. e-mail: TheDeepOne@sbcglobal.net AIM: Kjelldon |

Well, I'm about to send an email out to all the addresses I've been given by Dave pertaining to trying to get things rolling, but I guess it would be a good idea for me to put my AIM Sn here: musashi san999
I'm only online periodically, though, and I'll leave the country in early September. |

OK, here is the text of an email I sent out to everyone who gave an address to DaveK.
=============== Hi guys. My name is Sage, and I'm emailing you all because Dave tells me you've expressed interest in playing Shadowrun online. As the situation stands I'll be going out of country on the 6th of September, and Dave has a big scary physics exam covering years of material in mid-September. The consequence of this is that while I might be able to run a 5-hour-or-so game or two between now and September (I'm pretty busy preparing to leave), it would probably be Dave who would eventually take over regular GMing after mid-September. At this point in time, we need to come up with dates and times that can accomidate everyone at once, so that we can actually have a game. For the long run, it is probably best to come up with and maintain a regular time slot for the game (i.e., "9 PM EST every Friday, till 1 AM", or what have you) but in the short run for the sake of giving everyone a chance to play and see if they like the IRC format or not and considering that it's the summer we can probably be flexible and just pick one spot in time that works for everyone. So, in other words, when replying to this email, please say what dates and times would be good for you to try out an "introductory" game. Secondly, Dave tells me that there is a mixed bag of experienced players and new players. If you feel like it, you should probably respond to this email and say what style of game you like, or what your expectations/hopes from gaming are. That way, we can avoid a situation where the game that is prepared is inappropriate for the audiences, and it can also help me and Dave get a handle on what you all want to do in general. Thirdly, you probably don't want to spam everyone on the To list with your reply, but if when replying to the email you made sure that Dave's address is on the CC list, that's probably a good idea, since that makes sharing information easier. Lastly, Dave suggested to me that we can get things moving more solidly if I throw out some specifics about an upcoming game. Since we have a mixture of experienced and inexperienced players, and we probably all want to get a feel for each others' playing styles, I will lay down the following general guidelines for an upcoming exploratory or "exhibition" game: *The game would be basic Shadowrun, without using house rules. *Please refrain from using advanced sourcebooks to generate your characters. If there are newcomers to Shadowrun, I wouldn't want them to wonder why they have the Armored Jacket and the Uzi III while the guy next to them has layered FFBA, AV rounds, and Wildcat martial arts. *You can use either the Priorities system, or 123 points, to generate a character. *The setting of the game would be a basic Seattle setting Please note that these guidelines aren't long term; they're just for the purpose of setting up an exploratory game where we can see who is playing, what their style is, and understand what their expecations from a game are. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing back from all of you. I hope that much happy gaming lies in the future! :) |

I don't want to play, but I and others might want to watch if that's okay. Are you using irc.dumpshock?

That's a good question. I'll have to confer with Dave, since his IRC-fu is stronger than mine. In terms of watching, I don't see why that'd be a problem. Watchers are good. |

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but the straps of meat along the back are meatier, and easier to remove....Uhm I mean...Uh yeah I'd just watch....:D
Seriously though I would hope everyone would understand the proper etiquette of something like this. |

Well, right now, pending confirmation from all the people who have emailed me, we may *tentatively* have an exploratory game from 8 PM - 1 AM EST on Friday. This is *tentative*, though.

Looks like we'll be having the game tomorrow, the 19th, from 8PM EST-1 AM EST. The irc server would be irc.esper.net #srisfun, in case you want to log on and watch, or somesuch.

Wheeee, that was fun. Ronin was great with the DMing, very descriptive (sometimes deceptively so). Can't wait to play again if he's able to DM or when Dave's able to.
Psst, SlowRain, mind sending me a link or something to the dieroller you use? I'd appreciate it. |

Lots of fun. I enjoyed it and it looks like everyone else did too. I hope you weren't too bored when we spent an hour+ in front of the clinic "planing".
Soo, what was the deal the cred stick? |

I guess I should spill the beans about the real motivations behind the run.
The Fujiwara family were a bunch of respected long-time executives in the Renraku corporation. Kunio Fujiwara was one of the younger members of the family, and in an act of rebellion against his rigid social constraints and family expectations he decided to go slumming by himself every now and then at Pinkie's Bar. That was all well and good until he was randomly killed in the gang bar fight. His family found out about it by sending Company Men to investigate the situation (that's where all the grainy photographs came from) but they realized that if even the rumor got out that Kunio was slumming and was furthermore killed by gang-related violence it might damage their image and reputation within the company and their conservative, upper-class social circle. However, the most damaging possible outcome would be if someone found the platinum credstick in the bar or with the gangers, because that would be rather concrete proof that Kunio was really slumming and thus doing un-genteel things. So, they decided to hire some shadowrunners to retrieve the credstick secretly and as anonymously as possible. To mask their identities, they took some steps which were mainfested as misleading social cues in the campaign: 1.) They had the caucasian Johnson looking like Dolph Lundgren. 2.) They arranged the meet location to be a lower-to-middle management sake house, rather than an establishment worthy of big name high level executives. These elements were set up so that the last thing that comes to mind when looking over the run details at a glance is "Fujiwara, big name upper crust Renraku people". So, that's the hows and whys of the run. The rest of the detail, like why the credstick ended up in a ghoul shack, is, as they say, history. |

Aha, glad you asked. Tomorrow, early in the morning, I leave for Peace Corps and will be out of country for 2 years. However, after mid-September, Dave should be able to run games regularly, and more players are definitely welcome. Just keep pestering Dave on AOL IM about starting ASAP. ;) I gave his AOL IM earlier in this thread, and his email is davek at sdf.lonestar.org |

I am still hoping Dave will want to GM an IRC game in the near future. I played with Wounded Ronin a.k.a. Sage and it was really fun.
