Trailer Shadowrun RPG Gorki from our site, http://shadowrun-polska.prv.pl , made nice fan-movie. The idea was to create commercial, based on positives of Shadowrun RPG (show new people climate of the game, and use cool SR graphics as a magnet) and present this in trailer like form to complete noobs (persons that never played SR or even pnp). I think Gorki made it. :)
PS. The quote that appear on movie endings is polish translation of "Shot straight, conserve ammo...". The rest don't need translation :) |

Slick, but how many copyrights were killed while making this trailer?

OK...
You made it, guys. Aku, Jrayjoker - both of you think that's so fucking funny? Not at all. I was writing with representative of WizKids on the subject "can our polish website can use original Shadowrun pictures to promote THEIR fuckin product". Well - I spent more than year to do this, but despite attitude of officials like polish publisher or #$% WK. I talked with somebody which all of us know, to help polish scene - because their's no chance that polish RPG publishers will buy SR licence I wanted to translate SR books FOR FUCKING free and give it back to Wiz Kids (maybe they don't have reatail stores in Poland, but we've got credit cards and can afford to buy pdfs on Drivethru. And what happen? Nothing!) So please guys - if you can't help, spare your oh-so-*noble* irony for somebody else. |

Mattness, i appologize, i didnt MEAN to offend you, but the fact of the matter is (atleast in the US, and anywhere else the books are actually published) if oyu don't have the permission to do it, you COULD get sued. Even worse, is if you asked for permission, and you they said no, and you did it still. Do i think it would be a serious threat? probably not, but someone asked (and since video is my career) i thought i'd chime in with an answer.

For the record I did not intend to offend either, and I appreciate your passion and effort. As far as trailers go, I think it was quite well done. Your frustration is understandable.

You have nothing to worry about concerning copyright. Rock on! Your post has inspired me to consider making a short video as well! |

I noticed a couple of those images were from the Ghost in the Shell movie, while cyberpunk its not something that was created by FASA/Fanpro.
In any event, what would have made it better is english at the end, or at least a combination of polish and english. Star Wreck (In the Pirkinning) wasn't done in an English audio, but at least they included subtitles so that most of the world could understand what was being said. |

@ NightmareX - I'm guessing, but IMHO that is Marylin Manson.
@ Aku - Jrayjoker has right. I was pretty frustrated at the moment. btw. I admire your work (I remember that you worked on contact generator. Thumbs up and wish you all the best :) ). I was pretty pissed, because I read some DS topics with mantra - chorus like this : "Yeah. Idea for radio/movie/game/anything is quiet good, but you know. da rights. If you do it, you'll be sued". Irritating. Very  . (translation of Polish proverb "If you don't want to make errors, do nothing". I'm pretty sure there is something like this in English - but sorry - ME don't know the proper quote). Maybe that's why I get, well, mad. @ Shemhazai - I must concern about such stupid barriers like this. But f*** it. I will not stop guys from my site if they do something more (they claim they do). @ Westiex - motto at the ending of movie - that's polish translation of: "shoot straight, conserve ammo..." etc. Gorki doesn't know English - he knows SR from polish edition - and, I suspect he directed movie to polish RPG fans (Shadowrun is forgotten in Poland. People have no idea what it is). Besides - this is only a first try. If external condition will not stop us, I hope we will sho something better, more professional than this. And two thoughts: - Why FanPro will not make a contest, for us, fans, for the movie commercial of Shadowrun? As far as I understand, the idea of 4th edition is to show Shadowrun for people that didn't ever know Sixth World. Movie, sorta trailer, would be good idea. Such people like me wuold don't have to make guerilla promotion ;] . Adam? Rob? WizKids? - Check Star Wars fans. Lucas didn't stop them and their fan scene is doing great things. |

True, but he refuses to help, or sponsor anything but comedy versions of his film. Any fan fiction is on its own, and isn't eligible for any contests or support from Lucas films. I have approached WK several times with a script to a comic and i never heard anything back. I just don't think there interested in going outside for this kind of stuff. Or if there interested in having it done at all. A competition for a film script would rock as there are many talented writers in the SR community. |

Ok I just got to watch it. Nice powerpoint. I mean, I appreciate the work and time that was put into that, but it was by no means a film or a trailer. Maybe it could be considered a teaser but it is just a collection of copyrighted art that you could never use for anything without permission from the artist or Fanpro/Wizkids.
I don't mean to offend or disparage, just observing the facts. |

Why no contesty things? Why no movies or comics or whatever?
I'd hazard a guess and say that it's because FanPro is a small company. |

Beowurk -I know this movies - I even posted news about them, when germans ended this competion. But don't make me laugh. Those movies are cool - I know little german, and I saw them all - but if you don't know german, no translation page will help you. How many Dumpshockers saw those movies? Is that good promotion for Shadowrun? IMHO SR commercials shouldn't have text - they shouldn't be, because that's not the role of something like that. First - show the product (SR, or SR 4 universe for that matter), THEN explain what it is. Gothic Rose You wrote:
So what? We talking about SR promotion - I think Shadowrun is not well known... Even pnp RPGs are not as popular, as it should IMHO. Let's check the facts. - We are Shadowrun fans, don't we? :) - we can do wallpapers (it's calling e-cards, right? :? ), fan made movies or animations (I know that few people here know flash). FP or WK don't have to pay fans - read US, to made such things. I just wonder what would happen, if Adam just post such thing: "Shadowrun contest- send you're e cards projects, fan made movie in with Shadowrun as a theme". I don't want to bet, but I think that reaction would be big. If Adam & Rob had spare SR4 LE as a prize, even bigger :P . EDIT: Just think about it - if such animation / e cards would be cool gadget even for non SR fans that would extend Shadowrun popularity through direct marketing (my buddy just send me really cool graphic with some "Street Samurai" character. Intereting. What it is? Maybe I will check that http://shadowrunrpg.com site) |

That'd be fine, as long as the art is original. You can't just use someone else's art without their permission. That's the whole point of Copyright Laws.

after i think it was adams little podcast those of us over at the writers forum started talking about doing SR podcasts, either converting or writing stories and reading them like podcast books or writing a script and your PC's taking their characters roles and doing kind of a "during the mission" soundclips podcast

If you're talking about Shadowcast -- http://www.dumpshock.com/wordpress/archive...dowcast-posted/ -- I have nothing to do with it. Please don't ascribe me credit for things I did not do; I don't deserve it, and the people that worked hard to build it do. |

For what it's worth their website has the proper legal boilerplate on it:
Seeing as how the video was developed as content for their website, for the purposes of promoting SR, the SR images used fall under the scope of the standard fansite agreement. The only copyright in question would be the non- SR images and the music. |

Ah, but it's my understanding that they've given written permission with the statements that precede #3, in particular, "FanPro and WizKids encourages the creation and proliferation of non-commercial fan-based Shadowrun websites." and "WizKids, Inc. has granted permission to < fill in the name of your site > to use such names, logos, artwork, marks and/or any proprietary materials for promotional and informational purposes on its website"
Of course, I am not a copyright lawyer, and if it turns out that WizKids didn't intend for those statements to count as "written permission" for people who could follow the guidelines to go ahead and use the material, then of course, you've got to do whatever makes the copyright holder happy. |
