For those who have read Runner Havens, what is your take on the ACHE?

Anyone who has seen the anime series The Get Backers might draw parallels between the ACHE and the Mugenjou (Limitless Fortress). Only difference is that one is controlled by the government (but for how long?).

UCAS Military Controlled Basement? Check!
5 level mall open to the public? Check!
Public Housing (prison) for the poor? Check!
AI designed deathtraps on the sealed off upper levels? Check!

Curious to see a national government, particularly UCAS, play hardball and seize corporate territory. I also suspect that none of the other corps were given the option of buying it. And who runs the place anyway? The UCAS military or Seattle? I'm thinking the UCAS military which lately seems to be prepping itself to move against any bid for Seattle independence. Controlling the arcology's fusion reactors ( which are probably vital to Seattle now that the Redmond nuke plant is shut down. ) goes a long ways in that direction.

In other plot twists the prison for the poor could go in any number of nasty directions. Medical experimentation.... Bug Spirits......Soylent Green.......

Didn't it say it was held by the Seattle Metroplex Guard? I Assume it's a part of the UCAS military.

Since the whole thing is "self sufficient" and has it's own fusion reactors the cost of sustaining the poor population must be alot less than it would be elsewhere. I just wonder how those conditions are. Over 100,000 unemployed people in one buildng. That's a disaster waiting to happen

It was in SOTA64. But then, apparently a lot of things happened since then. Meanwhile, I haven't gotten a straight answer to whether RH even mention the coup.

Don't forget the Arc included a number of factory floors. Many people are no longer necessarily unemployed....

Interesting, but it's the UCAS military, and those are factories designing to pump out Renraku products (mainly electronics). Why would the UCAS military be going into the business of making Renraku merchandise? Or would they have to re-gear all the factories.
I guess it's probably not the UCAS who is actually getting the products, since they can lease the factories (and workers) to corporations.
Talk about a captive work force!

The military uses a lot of electronics, now they have their own personal factory.

Sure, they use alot, but the factories in the Arcology could churn out their yearly requirement in a few days.
What happens to the excess?
Whose designs are they using?
What copywright laws will they be breaking?

I think it far more likely that they simply lease the factories and workers to the highest bidder, and funnel the money made back into the ACHE as well as to whatever other projects require funding.
If they need electronics, they are more likely to get the bid winner to use their factories, and perhaps the use of their factories is what the bidder gets in leu of payment.
It means they avoid having to develope their own products or stepping on corporate toes, while still getting what they want for almost nothing.

I now actually have something to share. I've run my players through the ACHE, and one of them took some notes.

I'm having fun with it. Although my players deserve just as much or more credit for the game.

Or they can get what they want for *actually* nothing, and simply run it as a state-run business. I imagine the government is getting a little tired of the corps having all the fun of running the world; this is a perfect opprotunity for the UCAS to get a little more socialist. With the acquisition of Canada the UCAS certainly has more of a potential to be a semi-socialist regime, or at least a welfare state running the former Arc as a public works project.
