Had a few questions that I wanted to run past y'all regarding vehicle armor and the big guns.

Drone are vehicles, right? And because of that, they have the nifty armor that means you can only damage them if your modified damage rating surpasses their armor rating, right? (I hope that made sense, btw, just got off work with Cirque.)

Where this is leading is the Mitsuhama Tomino (aka the Mad Cat). Since drones can carry up to body x3 armor, wouldn't that mean it could be functionally invinsible, even with the armor capping at 20?

So actually I just figured out the next question, which was regarding how the big vehicle guns could even hurt a really armored vehicle. But then I noticed that armor caps at 20, so nevermind.

However, Smart Armor. I just don't know how it works. Could someone explain it please?

And speaking of the big vehicle guns. I haven't worked out what it would require, but with damage values around 17 (or 11 plus full auto), it seems that it wouldn't be to hard to build a character who wouldn't exactly shrug it off, but could definitely survive it. WTF? These are supposed to be small ship cannons (or tank cannons, that in RL kill people from the muzzle blast, if they're to close).

I think I'll stop there for now. But did anyone notice that you can apparently hold a stick of dynamite, and it litterally can't kill you?

Thanks.

The gun rules are completely unrealistic. They are still extremely deadly for an RPG, but still they are balanced for story (ie letting the players get wounded by gun fire and keep on running), and not realism. Yes it is impossible for an agility 3 pistol 0 character to ever 1 shot a body 3 armor 0 character. But hey, the rules are actually fun to play if you don't think about them to hard.

also other minor rules nit-pick vehicular armor isn't special. It isn't ignoring the damage it's downgrading it to stun and the vehicle itself is ignoring said stun damage because it doesn't have a stun track. This really only comes up when a possessed vehicle is getting hit with a DV that can cut ItnW but low enough that the armor stages it down. In this case the spirit/vehicle entity does have a stun track and so still takes damage.

yeah there was a thread a while back about how a soak troll with crazy body bone lacing (possably something else to I forget the exact build) could literally eat and swallow an HE grenade, and even with the chunky salsa optional rule reliably test it down to a minor wound

Until you add in modifiers. And edge for exploding dice.

Edge isn't the sort of thing you want to rely on for every shot. And there are relatively few modifiers that add dice.

True, but in real life the odds of someone who has never held a pistol before picking one up and then managing to fatally wound another person aren't exactly great. And the times it happens can be explained as the person using edge with good circumstances.

Even with edge, getting 6 hits on 7 dice(3 agility -1 skill +4edge +1 expected explode die)basically doesn't happen. That also assumes that the other guy's 3 body all fail. I know that an unskilled shooter is very unlikely to kill anyone in a gun fight. That is because they wont hit them. But by RAW they have about a 1 in 2000 chance* of killing some one HIT with a predator + edge. And yes I know that even a heavy pistol hit isn't likely to make human flop. But insta-kill in SR 4 filling overflow, they are unlikely to cause a wound they couldn't sleep off in a week or two without medical care. In this situation if you walk up to someone, shoot, and hit them at close. They aren't likely to even need emergency medicine.

Examples aside the real issue is that in reality the maximum damage of a given weapon on a given target has nothing to do with the shooter, but in SR it does. Both the noob and the pistol adept have the same damage range of a miss to hitting the Cerebellum, regardless there distribution with in that range.

*I'm assuming the 7 dice from above needed 7 hits because the target with 3 body soaked 1 DV. It makes the math easier.
