Well we're now up and running.

First now I'm still missing 3 finished character though I know that one is in the latter stages. So if I don't get these by the end of Wednesday GMT then I'll open the remaining slots to the public. The first final builds i get are in the game. People on the list in their current order then any others.

I hope to have an IC up before then but I'm still thinking on the best opening post on my part. BTW last minute thing life styles will be based in Dubai for now and that will be our Merc's starting base (theire will be other possible locations and expanding in to more than one could bean option). Transport to the first job will be covered by the client and there will be a nice big up front payment as well.

So may the war begin.

So has anybody given any thought to squad structure and tactics?

Is there any particular stuff we should be reading to prep for this game? Is the old Fields of Fire supplement worth skimming?

Its worth skimming that and SOTA '63 (im sure thats the one) for some fluff on mrecs in the 6th world.

As to structure IC would be fun same for tactics plus me having a PC with a high logic and some useful skills lets me help out if needed and have a ball with you all.
But really you'll need some one on AV as well as zone defense. Maybe rapid response and long range support. The rest can be thought up later. I'm getting under way for my IC post now just naming stuff that I haven't quite though about (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) mainly small places and unimportant NPCs like news reporters.

The IC is up I recommend you post a day in the life of for the 30th and early 31th then when everything done we can get on to the mission. The warehouse is a shared lifestyle that atm is assumed prepaid for 4 months this warehouse acts as equipment storage and a meting place for the team as well as the HQ of the team. I'll post the full stats for it later on tomorrow but its large and and secure with a small office and space to expand into as well as work space a target range and other such amenity's. Split between 11 is only less than 20% of the cost each tish also taken into acount room for all of you to crash if needed. This place can be upgraded as well buy renting out the other close units and such.

Given the weapons that we're lugging around, I'm guessing our other range is someplace well outside town, and a long way from anything else.

Have you seen this?

That would be a great place to have a penthouse/research lab. I'd like to keep my own lifestyle separate from the units. He'd contribute to both but he's just product leased to this Mercenary group and would prefer to maintain his own base of operations.

Nope not seen that.
As to not keeping your own base I can see a lot of the group doing that but the shared base will have benefits even more so if/when the group expands. The main one is supplying the group. The unit can odder things to the building and it will be legal ect. Plus its only going to get cheaper if the unit expands. It also acts as a good way for me to refelct the upkeep cost of a the unit. As I don't think may people would like to RP taxes and such.

Finally settled on a name, and uploaded him to the Wiki. Looking through Wikipedia's article on John Doe equivalents for a good pseudonym, I came across Brazil's Zé Ninguém, which is pretty charming. I've always liked the name Zé, so I turned him into a Brasilian, but otherwise he's what I wrote up before. Plus I can throw in some random Portuguese, assuming I remember any.

I've got the first IC in my head pretty well done, but it's time for sleep now, so I'll type it up tomorrow.

Don't know how wikidot works, but if you could enable the creation of tables in the charsheet section of the template, that would be great (for an example, here is Ze's sheet: http://fieldsoffire.wikidot.com/chars:ze-ninguem
Note how it looks like a mess in the charsheet section, but when I put the exact same code into the Notes/Conditions section, it draws a nice little table)

This is my first Play-by-Post game, so I have a few questions.

First, I know how the formatting works well enough to participate, but would greatly appreciate if someone could post a Guideline for reference.

Second, how do conversations with other Player Characters or Non-Player Characters work? Standard posting, or something different, such as Private Messaging to be posted later?

Third, how do you speak with Contacts? Standard method for contacting NPC's, or something else?

On a final note, I might be unable to post this weekend, & I will be making one or two minor changes to my character on the Wiki before I continue.

the colour code is

  • "Speech" (Cyan) - normally everyday talking, or whispering if described as such.
  • (yellow) - Matrix-based talking - like comm calls, text messaging, etc
  • (violet) - Subvocal speech
  • (darkkhaki italics) - Thoughts, what the character is thinking in his/her head (please use this one - it makes for more entertaining reads, helps with people getting into character, and lets me have NPCs assense and 'read thoughts' PCs without having to ask the players and tip them off OOC)
  • (lightgrey italics) Memories - this is mainly an RP thing, but sometimes something happening in the present can evoke a memory - it makes for a more entertaining read and helps characterization
  • (orange bold) Place, Time, other setting information - usually at the top of the post. I'll be using this in most of my posts for clarity's sake. If your post is in a different location/time than my last post, use this to make sure people don't get confused.

as this is pretty much this forums standed and what im used to here.

Cool! that means I need a callsign. my character is a free spirit... slightly psychotic... the phrase "hellspawn" would probably be a good description of him... also, if any of you have seen the anime Hellsing, he's modeled after Alucard.

Hey, I added some images to the character sheet. Let me know what you think.

The exo-skeleton isn't quite right, but darn close...

I'd say leave it open, and let's get rollin', rollin', roll...err...sorry. Had a Limp Bizkit moment there. Hate when that happens.

I'll post the post for the new years meet and party up on Friday so make sure your all on the same day XD. On the wiki I will begin to post articles on keypower players and such. Beginning with a detailed look on TSAT then General Yassem (these represent conman and shadow knowledge that could be found with data searches and simple legwork). I hope this add to the flavor of the plot I will also add a IC section The Oupost for different Mercenaries' outlooks on the events feel free to post IC in that area when its up. I will also reference a few items of good reading to help stay IC/ understand your place in the 6th world. Also 85% of Sub-Saharan Africa's population died out with Vistas so its more populated in urban locations plus with para-critters pushing rural people to lager settlements its now much less people friendly.

FYI, mates. I've got the ability to set up life pacts. A couple of you already have them set up. Let me know if any of you others want one.

LIFE PACT:
Cost to you: 1 karma per use.
Result: spend 1 complex action and instantly heal 2P damage.

Technically, we still have to pay Karma for the Spirit Pact Quality if we take you up on that, unless Dumori waves it.

I've been wondering about this.

Free Spirits get one Pact for free. I'm pretty sure this is to encourage them to take the new Friendship Pact without which they are incapable of earning karma.

As I recall a Friendship Pact does not require the 'Friends' to expend karma for the quality but all the others certainly do.

It's not my freebie pact. I did pick up friendship pact as that one. Life Pact, I paid for.

huh... you'd have to pay karma to get it? didn't really know that... *ponders, then shrugs* I'm sure dumori won't complain...

The pacts are free form our spirit as with 10 edge is 100karma that logicly gose to him and not going to happen also RAW could alow this.. as friendship pact says its free to players and the first spirit pact that spirit takes is free.

Makes me almost wish I'd saved a little bit of karma after character creation. Almost. I had to have all those anti-vehicle missiles.

FYI to fluff out what Dumori's saying: For the life pact, You aren't going to be charged to form the pact. IC reasoning is that Adrian's not charging you for it, because he knows he'll make up the difference for a long time before any of you get killed. BTW, AI characters cannot form a spirit pact. Unfortunately, any of you who have AI characters are plain out of luck.

In other news... I still don't have a call sign.

EDIT: Dumori has suggested "Dead Man's Hand" for my call sign. Opinions?

Ok every one the game will fully start this week. So post you arrival to the meting. Then I'll put a IC post up. If you can't make it in person Dust has rigged a few holo-projectors up with cameras to allow to to "be" there. After this round or two of posting we'll begin the job. As I ad-hoc more than right full scritps and such any Ideas on wat to will be taken in to account though I will "railroad" a tiny bit for the first part of the plot (it's needed that you fight on one side of the TSTA war thus you will be forced in to that and fighting for makes the most sence you'll see why.)

That's the beauty of the PCs being mercenaries. They're on the side that you put them on, since that's who's paying them. And this really doesn't seem like the sort who're idealistic enough to decide they need to switch sides for some moral reason.

Of course there is nothing to stop you completing your contract and then, having proved your worth, immediately hiring on with the other side...

Can we go with late morning on the 1st then? Give everyone a chance to party and then sleep it off...

Yep and to negotiate pay increases incase things go hairy. if you get hired to stand and scare off an attack but it turns to a war you don't just want t get paid for standing and looking pretty (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) . If I think Its needed I'll negotiate the first contract as Dust to show how but it looks like you all get the jist of it so that should be fine.

Most employers will add a "no turncoat" clause to the contract... makes it so that you can't be hired by the other side for, say, a year, so that you don't use information gained during your employment against your employer.

Which is why you have a hacker remove such a clause before signing (or after). If they happen to be using paper, nanites can do the same.

As of the last time I talked to Dumori, he's working on the IC post now. He was waiting for a couple people who have been afk for a while, but he's decided that they can always catch up later.

Ergo, it should be posted soon... I hope...

I probably am one of those people, but I *have* been keeping an eye on the OOC and IC. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Overkill already arrived at the warehouse (I assume that's where we store our big-ass obviously military vehicles) - although I saw him arriving the last day, worried he missed the opportunity to go blow some shit up.

I post is up it not the best feel free to RP before that post but atm I need to get the game started before I lose the plot. I'll post more data on sunday. But the basics are the heavy gear was shiped out on the 3rd in a hired sky train took time to get clearence to move arms of that type across some contrys and corp areas. On the 4th Overkill sets of with the others flying faster due to the lighter load bout arive on the 6th/7th more or less.

Well, losing ones home Internet access is definitely a good reason for things getting slow.
(What is it. One GM has his disk crash, and one has his house torn up.)

Good luck with the redecorating,
Joel

QUOTE (BlackHat @ Oct 29 2008, 06:58 PM) *
"If their radar picks up one of our vehicles

on a side note any ground based radar would be very short range in a desert. (my dad spent a long time as a radar technician in the military) The dues would block it reducing it range. and only a small wave length radar has any change or piercing a dune but are shorter range than normal radar thus only an air strike would be picked up early by radar. I do my home work on stuff. so a ground assulte should work. The advance team could even aim to knock out the radar so overkill and AD xan rush the site ASAP.
