Greetings everyone,

I've been away from the game for far too long, and am ready to jump back in. Now then, to kick some of the rust off my game I've decided to run a campaign with a couple twists.

First: This will start out as a street level campaign, so 300BP limit for everyone, no more then 160 in attributes, yada yada. Now then, I would like to point out one thing in this. Despite the fact that your limited to 160 in attributes, I'd prefer not to see many 1s unless your character has a very good reason for it. Also, based on the setting (as you will see) rich characters aren't likely to happen. Now, if you want your character to be rich, that's fine, but figure out a good background reason for why they have all this money (Both parents died, and this is the life insurance maybe?) Also along these lines, keep the quality of life stuff fairly low.

Second: All characters should be in the 16-17 age range. You can be a bit older if you'd like, but I suggest against it. There are several reasons behind this, which will be explained as we go on.

Third: As opposed to the standard shadowrun group, you will instead be playing as leaders of a gang. This gang will start off with only a handful of delinquent high school students, but with careful planning may be able to rival gangs like the Halloweeners.

Fourth: You will have gang members under your control. To start out you will have a number of gangers equal to players. I'll be making these gangers, but each person is allowed to request an archetype of sorts (I want a big bruiser who can push people around, I want someone with a bit of magic, and so on). As time goes on, you'll hopefully be able to increase your numbers.

You and your friends are from the wrong side of town, the ghettos are your home, and your school is little more then a place to corral all the local kids till their parents get back from work (Or just to get them out of the house in some cases). At this school of yours, the classes are a joke, and the only real lessons learned are those of a hard life, not that you aren't used to it by now.

Still, school hasn't been a total waste. You and your friends have done what so many others do when there is little hope in life. Joined a gang, or in your case, formed your own. You aren't exactly the Halloweeners, but you have a few other students willing to back you, and you have a certain presence about you that seems to indicate your gang will go beyond stealing lunch money from the nerdy kid.

The only real question is: What will you do from here?

So, feel free to post your characters. Know that all realms will come into play, from gritty combat, to magical investigation, to cyber battles, and of course social battles won through words and deeds over direct action. Of course what areas require the most focus depends on the directions you take your gang.

I think that covers most of the information. Please feel free to post questions and/or characters. I won't be able to answer for about half a day, so if you have some small question about making your character, run with it if it isn't too crazy and I'll give my proper approval when I can. I will be awarding Karma (Or special allowances) for good backstories.

And one final note: Everyone that is signing up, please suggest a name(s) for your gang. The final people will get to pick what the name will actually be.

P.S. Looking for 4-5 people.

P.P.S. This will be a Play by Post, though for particular encounters we may try setting up something (OpenRPG, IMs, whatever) to speed them up. This will mostly be in the case where only a small number of characters are involved (Such as the groups lone hacker doing something big online), which also allows for characters to go on their own little side affairs more easily.

P.P.P.S. I should be able to post quite frequently, and I'd like for others to be able to make a post every day at the very least (First PBP game, so not sure what the average is)

P.P.P.P.S. Availability limited to 8, rating limited to 4. As with most other things, talk to me and come up with a good backstory and I might let you have something higher.

Edit:
I will use this area to keep track of all house rules being used for ease of refrence:

Technomancers treat their complex forms as spells.

When in the state of dying, you take a box of physical damage ever (bod) minutes as opposed to (bod) combat rounds. This allows there to actually be a chance for the person to survive, especially people that use DocWagon contracts.

Alright, a little collections of all the characters for ease of refrance. Note this won't be kept up to date, this is simply for a refrance of who is who and where they started out.

Introducing our Motley Crew. First up is...

Dryden the Face by Mickle5125
[ Spoiler ]

And his Gangster Tristen the Idea's Guy.
[ Spoiler ]

Next up we have...
Gres the Shaman by estradling

[ Spoiler ]

And his Minion Lou the Trickster

[ Spoiler ]

Thirdly we have...
Milafin the Technomancer by Andrensath

[ Spoiler ]

And her Minion, Mya the Infiltrator
[ Spoiler ]

Fourth we have...
Alexie the Thug by Oenone
[ Spoiler ]

And his Minion, Tayler the Chemist
[ Spoiler ]

And last but not least...
Tink the Rigger by Little Johnson

[ Spoiler ]

And his Minion, Keir Lyle the Scrounger
[ Spoiler ]

One interesting group we have here, but the question is, will they be able to become anyone of importance, or will they simply fade into obscurity?

sounds interesting... availability rules? I'm assuming that it's not going to be "whatever you can afford," since this is a low level campaign...

Having said that, I'm certainly interested. Count me in... pending, of course, a little more info.

You are aware that the average pedestrian has only 3s in each of the eight Attributes, which is worth 160 BPs, aren't you?

Yes, I am aware of that. I don't mind someone having 1-2 1s, I'm just saying I don't want to see Int: 1, Wil: 1, Cha: 1, other stat: 1 reaction: 6 quickness: 5... See my point? Stats should hopefully fall into the 2-4 range without much trouble, with a 1 or two giving options for a 5 or two. A 6 is going to have you sitting on alot of 2s.

And to the earlier question, I've added the answer as one of the P.S.s Availability 8 and rating 4

P.S.
Ok, thinking it over I'll make a slight change. You can spend up to 160 BP on stats so your at least average. Sorry about that folks, been a while since I'd played and thought average was lower for some reason.

Yeah, I'm making a great first showing here. Been playing SR3 lately, meant agility. This will be an SR4.

No problems with that at all. Face type will be quite important in a setting like this.

I'd be interested in playing if you have space.

I have a vague idea for a street thug character in mind, if that's okay? The idea being one of the AK carrying teens the Russian Mafia are described as using. (Which would probably put the character in the role of heavy weapons / firepower for that age range)

Edit - Which city are you planning on setting the game in?

So, I have the following people as signed up for now.

Rising Young Gangsters, Staring:

Mickle5125 as Face
Andrensath as Hacker
Little Johnson as Unknown
Oenone as Street Thug
estradling as Street Mage

To see what I had originally planned on posting.... Caution: Really bad jokes inside
[ Spoiler ]

The team sounds good. All bases are more or less covered. I'll begin to move on with these assumptions.

The city will be Seattle. I don't know exactly what area of it yet, as I plan on actually coming up with some proper maps of the city as territory can be of vital importance to a gang.

So, a few tasks for you five. First off characters using the already posted guidelines, compleate with backgrounds. Second, I'd also like to know what kind of ganger you would like as your one of the five. And thirdly, you guys need to come up with a name for your gang. I suggest each person post an idea or two and then everyone vote on their favorite once everyone has had a chance.

P.S. I don't have unwired. I don't mind you using stuff from it, but please PM me the full details on anything you get from the book (Though there is a good chance I'll buy it soon.)

Okay well I have the Crunch side of the character sorted out already, did a little edit job on a half finished concept to turn it into a nicely rounded 300BP gun toting thug. Posted for your approval below. I'll flesh out the contacts when I do the background post along with some more detail about the lifestyle.

Character name = Alexei Dorogoi

[ Spoiler ]

As for the ganger I'd like something in the way of a chemist. Someone who can make molotovs and maybe the odd batch of drugs, brains to back up my characters brawn so to speak. If that leaves enough points spare then some other technical skills would be nice like say mechanical knowledge and the ability to drive etc.

Background I'm working on now, will hopefully have it posted later tonight.

Gang name wise let me see.... Nothing springs to mind immediately, but I'll again hopefully have something by the time I'm done on the background.

I was planning on using one thing from Unwired the details of which are below.

[ Spoiler ]

Edit - I'll also think up a name by the time I post background. As it hit me my original planned name doesn't work as it's not Russian enough.

Hmm okay so my background, lifestyle and contacts will probably be Tuesday rather than today. But at least this means I can make adjustments to the background based on any feedback I get on the character itself.

@Oenone All looks good except that I couldn't find reduced senses in any of my books. I'm guessing it is another one in unwired, and would like a look at it. 10BP seems like a lot for a penalty to taste.

Other then that, looks good and I'll get to work on your ganger.

P.S. A very good character. I didn't spesificly state this, but I notice a lack of serious min-maxing/powergaming which I quite like. Few odd quirks, but ah well, I'll accept that for an otherwise very believable character.

@Little Johnson Alright, was thinking a mechanic type might be a good addition. I'll get to work on your ganger as well.

And yes, you can be assumed to still be in high school. Likely junior or senior year, with the ever present possibility of dropping out.

No, no books are off limits. I've just now gotten Unwired and Runner's Companion, and never got around to looking though arsenal much when I got it, so I'm still fairly unfamiliar with them, but I doubt there will be anything I dislike in them.

This does remind me however. When getting things that aren't in the main book or augmented (Both of which I know very well) Please at least tell me where they came from so I can look them up without having to scan through everything. (Page number handy but not needed)

P.S. I just realized something. I haven't mentioned any house rules. The only one I can think of off hand is one that has become so commonplace it is almost the new actual rules. I am speaking of the adjustments to matrix related tests. Instead of using the program rating, you use your logic attribute, and your number of hits is limited by the rating of your program. I do believe that is how it works. I'll look back through some stuff to double-check, but unless I say any different, assume that is how it will work.

P.P.S. Having looked through unwired a bit, I like some of the stuff I'm reading for technomancers, and will likely include it as a house rule. If your planing on playing a technomancer, and don't have access to the unwired book, please tell me. I'll be using the optional rules: Complex Forms, and Fading from Tasking Skills on p39.

Just got the book and just found it. I'm not going to allow a -6 to 'taste' tests to give you any BP. Sorry but that is just way too munchkin.

And yes, another one that I forgot until I started looking through the threads and books a bit more. You get CHAx2 in free contact points.
