Hi, ive just been recruited to dm a D&D 3.5 campaign, and i was just wondering if anyone had some awesome or cool sounding ideas. I'm leaning a bit towards a survival campaign, world overrun by monsters and everything going to hell, or maybe hell coming to us?

Some people say that D&D should play like "fantasy fucking Vietnam". I thought that could be a compelling idea *if* the Vietnam is an interesting Vietnam drawing on history, and not entirely retarded pop culture movie Vietnam.

Therefore my thought would be to establish an orc kingdom in the midst of a civil war, and the PCs are in the military of a human kingdom that is supporting one side of the civil war. Fill in lots of historical details and make lots of tactical battle scenarios and you're all set. Maybe play 1970s style acoustic guitar music in the background so people can also chill to the music.

don't forget all the hit and fade tactics that are possible with all the magic. Sure, there's set battles and such, but there's also the rise of special groups that will hit each other with teleportations, invisibility, you name it. Getting to know the locals who may have a magical device to communicate and pass along info. Planting of magical explosive devices for a sabotage/assassination attempt.

Level 20 Bard, with Leadership Quality. Cleric cohort. I think your lvl2-9 followers can have something like 4 attacks and a significant +attack roll.

If you're curious, I can get the build from my friend, maybe. It's still being refined.

Being a hard core Shadowrun gamer I detest D&D (in most of its incarnations) but that being said I was in a Munchkin D20 once that was a lot of fun. Have all the players create level 1 characters and then set a goal level (first player to reach that level wins the campaign). Players are encouraged to use every rule loophole, backstab every person, and fight their way to the top. To make it more fun use some of the Munchkin D20 material ( http://www.worldofmunchkin.com/rpg/ ).

Add a CoC D20 Sanity dynamic for PTSD etc, and then play that song whenever someone loses a significant amount of SAN.
