I recently asked a fellow (former) DS'r why the lounge was shut down. The situation that made the final draw.
After hearing what it was, I wasn't real impressed and more so confused. I had thought that the Lounge was shut down because of the overwhelming amount of flamming going on in so many threads regarding the US involvement in Iraq. That would have made at least some sense to my reasoning. What I found out instead was that a certain user was adding too many Drama posts to the forum and that this user and a few of this users "e-friends" were acting more like a Forum gang, pushing others around. If this was the case...Which I can't validate...then a simple Ban from the lounge would have been nicer than removing such a great Forum room. The community at DS is like no other that I've found, and I (as well as I'm sure others) dearly miss that essence of interactiong with our beloved community. -ignore me or tell me go screw myself if you want, I'd perfectly understand. I just had to say it.- |

No, that was not the case. There is no single reason why the Lounge was closed, it was the accumulation of factors that, taken individually, wouldn't have granted any action, but all put together were creating more aggravation than enjoyment for the administration team.
There are plenty of other places where it's possible to discuss any kind of topics. Dumpshock is a Shadowrun resource, and I think it should stay that way. |

Nicer? No. By that time, it was "damned if you do, damned if you don't." The absolute final straw was Dvixen being attacked, which under no circumstances is to be tolerated. The rest of us were wholly fed up with the Lounge as well, and unanimously decided to shut it down. It seriously detracted from the forum's original purpose, which is to talk about games, Shadowrun in particular.
Despite what some seem to think, even all the off-topic postings and thread-hijackings haven't merited bringing back the Lounge. Frankly, it's like giving in to a screaming child having a tantrum when a toy is taken away. Given that I'm very sure that no one here is in support of that behavior or the subsequent giving-in, the Lounge will stay gone until such time (which I personally doubt) as all of the admins decide to bring it or a substitute thereof back. From what I understand, all the people who enjoyed the Lounge community have set up their own forum anyway, and I have no doubt they will make you welcome. Meanwhile, you're welcome to continue participating here. (It's not an either/or situation--I'd like to make that very clear right now before anyone gets that idea.) |

I was made aware of
www.underworld.hopto.org by Frag-o Delux and have found that all my good old friends are lounging about over there so I don't care really anymore. A link to their site from DSF could be nice for those that wish to lounge around with the DSF comunity. Thanks for everything guys...this is truely a great forum here at DSF. I'll probably never stop comming here...even if you forced me to. :grinbig: |
