Our group has yet again been ad odds regarding an ambiguous rule:

Concealment is explicitly called out to affect perception dice pools, but there seems to be no such language regarding sensors and sensor tests.

That would mean for a MAD/Cyberware scanner there is no difference between an RFID Chip or a Panther Assault Cannon. Furthermore, smuggling compartments would be totally useless for their intended purpose.

What do you think?

If you want maximum simplicity, I think a reasonable ruling would be to apply Concealability modifiers to sensor tests; the assumption being that the character has taken steps to hide his illicit gear from both patdowns and scans.

If you want a little more simulationism, make it dependent on the type of item and the type of sensor. A standard MAD sensor would be calibrated for items handgun-sized and larger, and should suffer penalties to detecting something as small as an RFID tag. Smuggling compartments should be assumed to be sealed and shielded; and in any event, the metallic mass of the vehicle or cyberlimb should obscure anything inside.

Well, Smuggling compartments explicitly have text describing protection vs. various scanning technologies, at an additional cost of course.

Could you point me to the page with this text? So far I haven't seen a mention of sensors anywhere.

AFB, but it's actually in the description of the Smuggling Compartment vehicle modification in Arsenal.

Here you go Jack_Spade...

QUOTE (Arsenal, Smuggling Compartments, Page 144)
Shielded smuggling compartments are specially designed to carry cargo in a way that blocks certain sensors from detecting it. Each type of shielding must be specified, and a compartment may be shielded more than once. For example, an airtight compartment would defend against chem sniffers, a wi-fi negating compartment would protect against radar scans, a lead compartment would shield radioactive material, a biofiber compartment would block astral scans, and so on.
