Jacob Baker left a message on your wrist phone while you were in the shower. Hoi, chummer. I got something that might not exactly be your line, but anyone else I’d send it to is already engaged. The money should be good, early read on Mr. J looks like corp. Meeting’s at 2040 tonight at my place. Talk to the bartender when you get here, he’ll point out which room your man is in. If you like what you hear send me my finders’ fee. And leave that damn cowboy gun at home this time!

You’re cleaning the grill after the morning shift, wishing that you could get back to real cooking and not just heating up frozen bar food when the bartender, and your de facto boss, pokes his head through the kitchen door.
“When you’re done in here, Mr. Grey wants to see you.”
You nod and he goes back to his world. As you finish the last of the cleaning and hand the kitchen over to the larger lunchtime crew you start to think ,[i]Is this it? You came to Seattle to start working the shadows. You took a job at the Lonely Hearts Club because you heard the owner might be able to hook you up with just that kind of gig. Now he wants to see you.
You’ve never been up to Grey’s office before, but it’s about what you expected, comfortable furniture and carpet that isn’t too worn down. Davin remains seated behind his desk as you walk in.
“Take a seat, Icarus,” he says as he motions towards a roomy troll-modified chair. “I’ll get to the point. A friend of mine needs a favor and I’ve heard rumors that you might want to do a little moonlighting. Now, I don’t have a lot of details, but there’s a meeting tonight at eight forty at a place called Jake’s. It’s on the north side, I’ll give you the address. Get there a few minutes early and tell the bartender you’ve been sent by Mr. Grey to see Mr. Johnson. He’ll tell you where to go. Listen to what Johnson has to say and don’t make me look bad. This could be the start of that future you’ve been waiting for.”
The way he speaks makes it pretty clear that he doesn’t have anything else to say to you so you nod and get up to leave.
“Here’s the address,” he says and gives you a business card. “Oh and if you need some wheels I’ve got a Scorpion out back you can use till the job’s done. It’s a POS, but it’ll get you around.”
You take the offered key and head to the door. As it shuts you think about how quickly everything is moving and wonder if this is really what you want. Well, only one way to find out. you think as you leave the club, hop on the beat-up hog and head out into the city.

It wasn’t easy finding work. Life sucks when you’ve got no one to do your legwork for you. But you spread some money around in the right places and an elf poser named Fat Charlie finally decided to give you a shot.
“8:40 tonight at Jake’s on the north side. Tell the bartender your name and that you’re looking for Mr. Jay, he’ll hook you up. Dress casual and carry light, they’ll probably take your pistol away. And don’t even think about turning down the job. You need the cred and you need to start building a rep. Frag this up and I’ll make sure you never work in the ‘plex again. Cuz’ I’ll kill ya.”
You wake up the morning after getting the news feeling pretty good about the way things are headed. It’s 11:00 AM and you’re ready to get on with your life.

You get a message from one of the fixers you’ve been contacting lately. You don’t know much about him, but are pretty sure it’ll be better than working a job for Crimson. The meeting’s at a place called Jake’s on the north side of town, not a ritzy place, but definitely no dive either. They’ll probably take weapons away from people. You should get there around 8:40 PM, tell the bartender your name and he’ll show you towards Mr. Johnson. Pay is supposed to be good.
