A few months ago I was re-visiting Deus Ex, and playing the Redsun 2020 mod. In one of the Redsun 2020 maps one of the pedestrians in the street has a little conversation about how Duke Nukem Forever just came out in 2020. At the time it was very funny because people were still (vaguely) paying attention to Duke Nukem Forever, whereas now there's less discussion about it since so much time has passed.

Personally, I love history. I love antique pieces and learning about the issues that concerned people who lived long before me. Every time someone makes a joke about Duke Nukem Forever I actually feel really good because it's like handling an antique or talking to a period performer who is wearing a historical costume. I sincerely hope that we can make more Duke Nukem Forever jokes in our day to day conversations.

And after all, I still do get a humorous rise thinking about Duke Nukem Forever. There's so much intense humor surrounding the whole issue. Think of all the crappy write-off Duke Nukem products the developers had thrown out to try to make some quick cash and thus squandered the goodwill of the fans. Think of all the times that those guys, even when they had been credibly working full time on development, would have had to re-do the game engine on the basis of graphics alone. Think even about how DNF could have been totally satisfying game, even using the old engine, if they'd spent all the time until now on development, ideas, and good level design, instead of presumably getting repeatedly sidetracked by having to do the engine again.

Anyway, here's the SA article which started this whole train of thought, and this bright, glowing hope for the oft-repeated jokes of the future: http://www.somethingawful.com/d/video-game...ukem-teaser.php

Finally, here is the game-development strategy game which typing this post made me want to play: http://www.veloci.dk/gamebiz/gb2/
