Most people I know with any vision and sense of reality can tell we are living at the end of an age, and things are going to get bad before they get better if they get better. I don't really think I need to sell anyone here on that. Most people in my peer groups (if not my age group) have varying amounts of anxiety about what's coming down pike in there mid to late adulthood. But you can't really talk about it. Very few people to have the fortitude to admit this to an extent that will allow for serious discourse, or the creation of a space safe enough for any kind of healing. I seem to me that many people I know have powerful relationship with an entity that isn't part of there life. They can't talk to. And few people validate as having an impact. AKA: an ex.
RPGing may well be my letter to that ex, one of those hyper-extreme letters you have to intention of sending. I can't talk to the apocalypse, any more than I can talk to an ex who wouldn't take my calls. So I make a fictional construct that I can react in relation to in order to help resolve feelings that don't have much of context that they can be lived. I'm starting to think this is what keeps bringing to Cyber-punk RPGs. While I gladly consume all genre of entertainment, I really only create stories at the gaming table. I think this is why I get more of telling and retelling these particular stories.
