Sakaisuji Road - The roads of Osaka's historical 'center of technological consumption' are choked with activity, hundreds of otaku are standing, watching, taking pictures, or walking with a makeshift cosplay (character performance costume) parade occupying a full 6 blocks. Hundreds of technology stores line the sides of the road, from an old, dusty walk-in specialist selling electronic parts to the new, gleaming countertops and AR displays of the new Nikon store, fully in swing advertising their latest memory chips and newer, higher resolution video cameras with simsense connections and newly improved edit-on-the-fly software perfect for the video blogger. Looming nearby, large office buildings cast their shadows, intermingled with the deepening evening sun, casting it's reflections down on the parade. Drones, automatons and AR companions scamper about, filling their own roles and adding yet more to the spectacle. Overhanging balconies open from local specialty restaurants and stores above street level allow their customers to join in, watch and participate in their own way. Highlights (read: panty shots and other fanservice) from the latest episode of Maid Cafe, MoƩ-brigade, Go!, playing on the corners don't have anyone looking, but add more light and sound, fueling the consumption. And it only took 5 minutes for the change to take place to this from the plain old bustling commercial area it normally is. |
