This is the recruiting thread for a Shadowrun 3rd Edition game taking place in Chicago, summer of 2055. That's right, boys and girls, school's out and the sun is shining, but there's nary a hot bikini-clad damsel to be spotted on the sandy beaches, because the Windy City has found itself knee deep in a serious bug infestation problem. As players, all of you will have the debatable privilege of being stuck right in the middle of it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) If you're interested in signing up, read on about what kind of game this will be so you can decide if this is the game for you.
• This game will be much more sandbox than your typical SR game. There will not be a Johnson handing out run after run for you to do - it's up to you to go out there to brave the dangerous streets of the Containment Zone and seek adventure for yourself. Being a survivor in a quarantined city infested with murderous bug spirits, where there's no foreseeable hope of rescue, while your fellow survivors are turning on each other and battling it out in a fierce race to claim the scarce resources remaining in the city...you should have your hands full. • You will probably die. It's just a matter of when, so don't take it personally. Those who've gamed with me in the past know that I run a deadly game, and this will be doubly true in this one. The last game I ran here on the forums nearly resulted in a full party wipeout, though the characters did manage to pull through at the end by the skin of their teeth. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Making a combat monster will probably not save you - if anything, more versatile characters are more likely to survive because they can find ways to achieve their objectives that don't involve putting themselves in a situation where they might die. However, I'm not one of those RP elitists who hate powerful characters, and I admire creativity and cunning during character creation, so don't hesitate to make effective characters. If you do play a combat-oriented character, don't assume that I've scaled down each enemy you encounter to your level or below, and use your judgement before you whip out your gun. That being said, there's nothing I hate more than seeing interesting characters die, so acts of ingenuity, good planning, and tactical maneuvering on the battlefield are all things that will help you beat the odds and earn you some bonus karma to boot. • To make sure the game doesn't stagnate on account of any individual player, if you stop posting and the group has been waiting on you for a long time, your character is going to get benched. I'll try to RP this in a way that makes sense without having to kill you off, so you can return to the character at a later date if you want to, but no guarantees. • My last game was run at a pretty breakneck speed with multiple posts per day being the norm...this will not happen for this game. This one will move along at a more moderate, but steady pace. Major GM storyline posts will happen on Tuesday and Saturday of each week. I'll usually have time to post more than that, but those two days are guaranteed. • Since this is an open-ended game, players are encouraged to do stuff even when I'm not here. You can write your own interactions with NPCs that aren't vital to the storyline to add more flavor and spice to the game, and effort made on this front will be noted and result in extra karma as well as more IC opportunities for your character. Hmm, that about covers most of the stuff I wanted to say. If you're still with me and you're interested in playing, post up a character dossier with a bio, a sheet, and anything else you want to include. You can submit more than one character for consideration if you want, which will increase your odds of getting into the game if it turns out that there's more submissions than there are player slots available. I managed to hunt down a copy of the old NSRCG as well, so just shoot me a PM with your email address if you want it. Click this link for the house rules that will apply to this game. Characters are to be created with 125 build points or 450 karma under BeCKS v2. The sourcebooks that are allowed are Shadowrun 3rd Edition, Shadowrun Companion, Man & Machine, Magic in the Shadows, Cannon Companion, and Rigger 3. Flaws will be approved of on a case-by-case basis. Just a warning: most of the flaws as listed in the Shadowrun Companion will be rejected. In order to get a greenlight, the Flaw must impact your character in a meaningful way that's congruent with the cost and it must see at least as much play as your Edges. Due to the nature of this game, there will be a restriction on how you may spend your resources at chargen and it is this: you can only start out with stuff your character would still have even if he's completely ass naked. In most instances, this means you can only use your resources to purchase implants. Awakened characters may purchase foci as well. After chargen, each character will receive a care package from the GM with some more stuff they will start the game with. Anything else, you must acquire in game. Exceptions may be made for items that are crucial to your character concept. The deadline for character submissions is Saturday, July 4th. The game will launch on Tuesday, July 7th. |
