I live in NYC, and I'm looking into setting up a campaign for my players that takes place around the areas we're intimately familiar with, but of course about 60 years into the future.

What SR books contain info on people, places, history, and current goings-on of New York, and additionally the "metropolitan area"?

Thanks.

oh boy are you in for a surprise.

Neo-Anarchists Guide to North America covered New York in detail. To give you the long and the short of it the City is a corp enclave. A massive earth quake in 2005 levelled many buildings in NYC except for the Empire State Building. (yeah, 2005, I looked it up. you got about 13 weeks to get out of Dodge.)

The corps said they would rebuild it but on their terms. Manhattan became NYC and entry into the island is supposed to be strictly controled. You need corp passes to get about the island. The Bronx and Brooklyn are much the same as today, Queens is a bedroom community. Long Island and Westchester County are BIG corporate enclaves full of happy wage slaves (much like today).

The end of Manhattan, where the WTC stood was claimed by Fuchi who build 3 towers. I do not remember who go them.

Of big not the policing is handlked through 3 different corps. each station house has 2 of the corps represented there. The idea is that the 3 corps keep eachother straight. the truth is there is lots of corp espionage with the cop corps trying to frag each other over.

Huh. I wonder if there's anything about Ann Arbor in the SR books? Probably not.

Also, after the Crash 2.0 in System Failure (2065) doesn't the major stock exchange move back from Boston to NYC (if not Wallstreet itself)? Man, i'm so tempted to just say frag it and buy that PDF.

Dang... I was hoping to run a Seattle-like campaign, with the wonderful underbelly of society that we call the sprawl.

So Manhattan is just row upon row of corporate buildings? No slums?

According to NAGtNA except for the urban hell of Newark, Jersey is pretty much a nice blend of suburbia.

For urban underbelly in NYC, look to Brooklyn and the Bronx. You can get barrens there, Heck I've spent enough time in parts of the Bronx to know that happens NOW.

What you get is the under belly in what are now the outter bouroughs with Manhattan being the AAA security area, getting in there means good fake passes or evading security. Mahanttan is where you dress the part and smooze. Remember that you will still get tourists and, like today, most workers in manhattan would come form the outter bourough and counties. Just imagine everyone on Metro North having to get their passes scanned.

Go a little north of the city you have Westchester, ultra rich suburbs like Larchmont, Scarsdale and Bedford Hills. Urban pits like parts of Mt Vernon and Yonkers and Just a little north-20-30 miles real rural areas studded with corporate parks.
